there exist Portable Versions for Dropbox, Evernote, OwnCloud etc.

There actually exists portable versions of Sync - however, this feature was officially dropped some time ago as of Sync 1.2.82 (although continued to work for early 1.3.x builds too)...  so if you can find one of those builds, you can run Sync portable. Otherwise, this thread is certainly the right place to request that portability be brought back

The problem is not related to locked files.  It's entire folders with hundreds of files that will are unsynced.  Usually it corrects itself eventually but it can literally take days for it to resolve.

Sounds more like it may potentially be a bug.

I've moved this to the troubleshooting forum, but you may also wish to open a support ticket.

....There needs to be a stronger comprehensive error-checking function that can be enabled when there is a problem.

There is - you can enable debug logging.

Do be aware though that Sync can't sync files that are open/locked/in-use by other applications - which may be the reason why some of your files are not immediately syncing

Is there a specific reason for this?

Don't worry - 2.5 will come to auto-update in due course.

New builds are always announced here on the forums in the first instance and initially only available for manual install/update.

The main reason auto-update isn't usually enabled at the same time as a new build is announced here, is to allow the team to capture any significant issues from the sub-set of users who manually update, that perhaps weren't picked up in testing/QA phase, before pushing a new version out to everyone.

Typically it can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before auto-update is enabled.

Just got this email addressed to the unique address only used to sign up for this forum.

You appear to have originally joined in July 2013. At that time, Sync was part of BitTorrent Inc.

BitTorrent Inc's forums were previously hacked.

Resilio have since taken over development of Sync, and those parts of the original BitTorrent Inc forums relating specifically to Sync were transitioned across to these new Resilio forums. Users who signed up on the original BitTorrent Inc forums prior to 1st February 2016 are able to use their previous credentials to login to the Resilio forums.

It's important to note that Resilio's forums themselves have not been "hacked".

Also this is more of a feature request and should've postet into the Feature Request forum.

Maybe @Helen is so kind to move it there?  :-)

Moved to Feature Request forum and merged with similar threads all requesting the ability to "prioritize" transfers

  7. The timezone itself is less of an issue - if a device is the correct time within whatever timezone it's set to, you should still be able to sync (as Sync references all times internally back to UTC anyway). A "time difference" error occurs when a peer's clock is wrong within the timezone it's set to.

For more information, please see: https://help.getsync.com/hc/en-us/articles/204753599--Excessive-time-difference-error

  8. Dear community,

Resilio Sync 2.4.5 is now available. It may be obtained it via direct links below, or via official download page. This version has not yet been published via auto-update.

    UPGRADING FROM BITTORRENT SYNC
Sync is now released under the Resilio brand, it is treated by OS as new application and will propose you to migrate all your settings from old BitTorrent Sync app (settings are backed up during migration).
Please carefully read these articles about updating to Resilio Sync and migration of settings.

    DOWNGRADE
Resilio Sync will make a backup copy of all your settings prior migration into "sync-v2.3.7-1471003319.backup"-like folder (version and timestamp may vary). If you decide to return to 2.3.*, you'll need to manually copy the content to your storage folder, remove Resilio Sync and be aware of next downgrade drawbacks:

    1. You'll downgrade to "Free" version and you'll have to re-apply license manually. File association with license files *.btskey is broken so you'll need to apply license in BTSync UI
    2. Linking new devices to downgraded Sync is not possible. You'll need to recreate identity if you want to link some new device.
    3. Downgrade is not supported for Selective Sync folders (as all placeholder files are renamed to *.rsl*). If you downgrade and your Sync has Selective Sync folders, your files are going to be deleted on all peers.
