  2. The issue is due to the fact that a colon character (:) is not a valid character in file names under Windows operating systems. Therefore, if you're syncing a file from another OS where : characters are allowed in filenames, to a Windows system, the : character will be substituted for an underscore. To avoid this, ensure that the filenames of the files your syncing contain characters which are legal on all the operating systems you're syncing between.
  3. @ovizii first thing I'd suggest is that you change your folder synchronization mode in Sync to "Disconnected". That way you'll hen be able to specify the exact location you wish to sync each incoming folder to, rather than having them syncing to sub-folders within the "default" folder. For more information on folder synchronization modes, please see: http://help.getsync.com/hc/en-us/articles/205457775-Synchronization-Modes In relation to the location to select when syncing, you select the exact folder you wish to sync to - not its parent. So if you've added the folder "_data" from "/mnt/sync/_data" on device A and you wish to sync to "_data" at "/Users/ovi/Documents/_data/" on Device B, you'd add the location /Users/ovi/Documents/_data/ to Sync, and not the parent folder /Users/ovi/Documents/
  4. When you sync folders between devices, only content that differs will be synced. Therefore, files which exist in both locations and are identical won't transfer, as Sync will detect that those particular files are already "in sync"
  5. The last sync version to run on XP is 1.4, which may be obtained via the links in this thread. The Sync 1.4 branch is no longer actively developed or supported. The latest versions of Sync 2.x are not supported on XP, and given Microsoft themselves no longer support XP, you should consider upgrading your obsolete operating system. If you can't upgrade your obsolete OS, then you can run Sync 1.4, which will allow you to perform basic syncing with 2.x clients, but you'll be missing out on a lot of features/fixes of the 2.x branch.
  6. Change your Sync folder mode to "Disconnected" - that way, you'll be able to chose the location you wish incoming folders to sync to, rather than them automatically syncing to the default location. For more information on please see: http://help.getsync.com/hc/en-us/articles/206216615-How-to-manually-set-the-location-of-the-folders-synced-across-my-devices-
  7. This can happen from time to time - it's more likely a temporary issue at BitTorrent's end. Simply retry again later, or alternatively, you can manually download the latest version at https://www.getsync.com/platforms/desktop When you install, the installer will detect an existing instance of Sync and will upgrade accordingly.
  8. Quite likely I'm afraid (others have reported similar on the forums previously) Sadly many IT/Network administrators don't understand what Sync is and just assume that all P2P traffic is "bad" and involved in illegal downloads, etc.
  9. Selective Sync allows the recipient to choose which files in a given folder they wish to "download" (sync) to their device. The best/easiest way to share specific files with another person is to create a new folder on your device, add it to Sync, and copy in to it only those individual files you wish to share with another person.
  10. @mintwurmNew builds are announced first in the "latest build..." threads (which are pinned to the top of the General Discussion forum), and also in the changelog. We also try, why possible, to update existing recent forum threads relating to specific issues which are addressed in each new build, so if you "follow" such topics, you can be notified when new replies are added.
  11. The "folder_rescan_interval" setting is working correctly, as is a purely fall-back for OS's which don't automatically notify sync when files have changed, and therefore the only way for sync to know if a file has changed is to manually rescan folders itself at a recurring interval. However, on Windows-based OS's Sync is automatically notified by the underlying OS when files changed, and therefore transfers begin almost instantaneously. If you only want your Win2k8 server to sync "once a day", you'd need to setup a scheduled task in Windows to execute BTSync.exe (or start the sync service) at a time of your choosing, and exit/stop the server it a short while later.

  14. @rhegyiYes, you can "pre-load" folders, and whilst Sync will index them when you add them to Sync (which may take a little time depending upon the number and size of files), nothing should actually transfer provided that the files at either location are identical in terms of their content and time stamps. I suspect that perhaps in @siridas's case when he manually "copied" files across to a second device, time stamps were not preserved, which will have meant that when added to Sync, sync won't have perceived the files as being "identical", triggering a re-sync. As I say though, provided the two folder locations contain truly identical files, then nothing should transfer when you add them to sync.
  15. @FlashPan Are you syncing in Read-Write mode, or Read-Only? It maybe that your "notify" folders are being temporarily created on your first device by some 3rd party application, upon creation, these transfer to your second device. The 3rd party application on your first device then removes these temporary folders, however, depending upon your sync settings, these may not be being automatically removed from your second device. Bottom line, it's virtually certain that Sync itself won't be creating these "notify" folders, but rather some other application on your system is
  16. Are you aware that there's an API available for Sync?
  17. Please use http://help.getsync.com rather than http://sync-help.bittorrent.com - the latter only relates to legacy Sync 1.4 builds, the former relates to current Sync 2.x version
  18. .bts placeholder files should remain as such, until you double-click them, at which point the file is downloaded and opened with the relevant default app. Files should not be automatically being opened/run by Sync upon download! ...is that what you're seeing?

  21. @agend07, @denormal - have a quick search of the forums; other instance of "assert failures" on "network.cpp" have been due to Sync exceeding speed limits - see this post for example.
  22. If the user on the "remote" PC opens Sync on their own device, they'll be able to see the progress of the sync with your device.
  23. Sorry, Sync 2.x is not available for Windows Vista. A list of supported operating systems may be viewed here. The last version which could run on Vista was 1.4 Beta. You can sync folders from a 1.4 installation with a 2.x installation, although not all features/functionality will be available. You'd therefore be highly recommended to upgrade your server to a more modern, supported, operating system
