  1. Helen, I reinstalled the BTSync version I had before and all is working again. Maybe after the New Year I'll have the time to try again. I have several machines linked together, plus family shares that will be incredibly inconvenient if there are any snags. They are even less savvy than I am. BTSync was listed in my installed programs list, but pointed at nothing when I attempted to uninstall. I was prompted with the window shown in the guide. I didn't see those instructions until I went hunting for what went wrong/what should I do now. I received the "un-install failed" error only if I tried to run Resilio, otherwise nothing happened. I did not see Bit Torrent Sync in my app folder, but I guess it is possible that I missed it. I will say I was a little distressed by not seeing it and relieved Resilio was there and had the sync.dat file. I used that file to get up and running again after reinstalling BTSync. @Soren Bonefeld My shares are not located on C. C is an SSD drive, so all my share folders are on a different HDD. So, it supports your theory.
  2. If no assistance appears before tomorrow, I'll likely try the same and reinstall the old version. Thanks for sharing the info!
  3. I downloaded the installer, but I get the same result I did before. After accepting the Privacy agreement and hitting next, nothing happens. Open Resilio and pop up says, "Uninstall Failed." I have my share folders and files, but I cannot open any version of the application and of course nothing is syncing. I hope if I can get the program installed I will still have my shares. I would not have updated otherwise. I'm stuck. I'm not even sure how I'd go about even starting fresh... I'm guessing delete everything BTSync/Resilio related... I'm waiting for a response because I bet it's just one file or reg setting that's holding up the party.
  4. Hey gang, This morning I was prompted to migrate to Resilio from BTSync 2.3.6 (378) on my Win 7 machines. I accepted the standard terms, not chosing to run as a service. Then, nothing happened. Now BTSync is gone and opening Resilio via shortcut says "uninstall failed." Searching the forum I could find a similar post from September that was solved by Dan via TeamViewer. I checked app data/roaming and only Resilio is listed. The folder has 73 items including sync.dat and sync.dat.old. How can I kick start this migration so it will finish without having to redo my shares?
  5. Yes. Same for me. I know now to manually edit the path every time.
  6. This has happened on two of my systems (Win7) now. Its infuriating. I updated to 2.0 two weeks ago. I'm bearing with you as best I can, but this is too much. I see that the taskbar icon is not spinning when I know it should be. I double click it. I am propmted to install Btsync as a Link or as my first machine. I seem to have no choice. I do. All my shares are gone. It was not a big deal on the first machine yesterday, as it was local shares only. I took it for a fluke. Made new shares. Got back to work. But just now, it happened on my main machine that had eight shares established with not-very-tech family members. You must know how annoying this is. What is this? What it happening? On the upside, I have 30 days left again! /sarcasm. I literally loved this program. I was the kind of fan who got all my friends into it and recommended it in online forums. Now I'm going to have to make excuses for you and look like an ass. I am disappointed. Edit - In proofreading this post, there is one thing both machines have in common. I ran sfc /scannow prior to this BTS event. I do not know how/why that would be connected unless BTS was among the files SFC repaired as corrupted. Edit2 - This time is different. I went to recreated my shares and it says my folder is shared in another instance of BTSync. I do not know how to get to that other instance or how to remove this new one that decided needed to be installed. I only have one in my Program Files (x86). Edit3 - I have 2 SyncUser folders in %appdata%. One folder seems like the likely new as it has less items in the subfolders. I'm gonna exit BTSync and delete it. Edit4 - Restarted BTSync. New Syncuser folder reappeared. How do I go back to the other Syncuser? Edit5 - So, I closed BTS and copy/paste the contents of one old SyncUser folder into the new one. I restarted BTS and after a confirmation to link to my alternative ID, it replaced half my folders. All the 1.4 folders. But its a clusterf*ck. BTS now sees Muther and another ID identified by IP address. I think I'm just gonna nuke the whole mess and start from scratch. Considering going back to 1.4.... God, I hate talking to the relatives.
  7. Although no one seems particularly interested, I'll post the results. Drive B is a READ-ONLY sync of Drive A that was copied locally, then moved to my second computer. Drive A vs Drive B ----------------------- size: 2,879,531,634,457 bytes vs 2,879,675,440,901 bytes difference = 143,806,444 bytes (137.145 MB) more on B contains: 412,081 files 36,738 folders vs 412,108 files 39,613 folders diff = 27 files 2,875(!) folders more on B That is the really puzzling piece to me: Nearly 3,000 more folders being reported on B. I am not sure that this is in any part the work of BTS since I did not make sure the drives had copied 100% correctly before indexing/syncing. I should have, I know and may redo the job if I can't account for the missing files and folders. As with my other large share mentioned above, BTS reports that 122.6 MB await upload from Drive A. Drive B BTS reports to be synced.
  8. I am currently attempting to sync a large folder across our home network and have experienced the same phenomenon. Both machines are Windows 7. I did have a problem with several files that had a bad timestamp. They would repetedly be reported in History as skipped. I removed them, renamed them and re-added them with success. Yet, I am still hundreds of files short on the total indexed "size" shown in the Folders tab. After opting to show hidden and system files, I did a check for thumbs.db and desktop.ini files in the folder (I don't have any of the other file types listed in default .syncignore) and together they came very close to the difference, except there were 12 more in the folders than missing from BTS index size (!?) I have no idea. [*EDIT: Now, I am more confused. Thinking this was the right track, I did the same check with the other large folder that shows 15.9 MB to upload. There is a 44 file difference between folder properties and BTS index. I ran a search and there were 72 hidden system files (thumbs.db). I now do not think that I was on the right track and the fact that the number of unaccounted files was near equal to excluded hidden files was a fluke. To give an idea of what I'm dealing with, there are 410,090 of 411,779 files indexed. A difference of 1,689. 917 thumbs.db and 784 desktop.ini for a total of 1,701 ignored system files. That's 12 more than I needed to explain away the problem, but now I think it is not source of the unaccounted files.] The second machine is currently indexing its copy of the folder. I will check back when it completes (likely tomorrow) to report. I wonder if it will report the same number when indexed... I have synced another large folder and everything seems to be synced, yet the Device tab shows 15.9 MB to upload... forever. Nothing is being done about it. No way to push or reset the sync. But everything appears to be synced, I guess... its very labor intensive to check. Either way, there is something disconcerting about having a perpetual handful of MBs listed as needing to upload whether it is true or not. If files were failing to tranfer, I would find it difficult to pin down which files. I hope future versions might be able to highlight in some way files BTS read but failed to index/sync for whatever reason. Or perhaps a sort of refresh button to try again....
  9. @Xanza: I think that sounds very efficient, yet you did not mention how an MD5 would effect when/how often BTSync compares sums. Or is it that using an MD5 would make checking sooo effiecient that it would matter less how often two folders were compared? Forgive me for being a bit dense.
  10. For me it is waking up to hear three systems with fans in high gear. I check to see what's going on and its BT Sync that seems to be very busy, although nothing is being transferred. I'm new to BT Sync, so I select "pause syncing," which you all know does nothing to the network activity. I am by no means adept at this kind of program, but it seems like any folder that updates could send out "pings" to clients, announcing updates. Any BT Sync that starts could "ping" all its connection to check for changes. The rest of the time the program could just lay around waiting for something to happen. What else is needed? I'm so stoked with this program in so many ways. I look forward to the improvements the developers will make as they move towards Beta.
  11. Thank you for the responses. He has gone to bed, but I will try these ideas tomorrow afternoon and let you know.
  12. First post, so first let me say I LOVE THIS PROGRAM. It is wonderful when someone creates something you didn't know you needed, but needed SO BADLY. Thank you! No more encrypted zip files passing slowly through my dropbox. I sent my friend a secret and a link to install BT Sync. He is running XP-32 SP3 on his home network. He definitely has nothing fancy going on over there, just basic router set up. He did fine installing and joining the share folder, yet I noticed under the devices tab that his device has a cloud symbol next to it. After looking it up, I learned that means we are sharing a relay connection. I feel like the connection is slower, but I don't really have much to compare it to as I have mostly been transferring on the LAN or smaller folders to other direct connections. Is it? Is it something to care about? All my other shares have direct connections, so I had him teamviewer me in to have a look. All looked in order. His firewall has exeptions for BT, file sharing is on, Upnp is on. I even went so far as to open the specific port his version is listening on for UDP and TCP. No dice. I've search the forum, FAQs, and user guide for more ideas, but can't figure out what I might have missed. Probably something stupid. Maybe its not a big deal, as it is working fine. Maybe it would be faster...? Maybe I just let it be... ? Any ideas?
