Where Is "open In" In Bittorrent Sync Ios?
Imnotatroll replied to rainerschnelle's topic in Sync Troubleshooting
Can someone answer this? I cannot see this option in the newer versions of the app. (tap + hold does nothing) -
Thank you. My question is: What is the best way to update to 1.4.0-4 on Debian Wheezy? I'm already on the latest 1.3.x but I want to upgrade. Not sure what is the best way...

Damn!! I just restarted my Debian Wheezy server: I have started btsync. I bound it to localhost and to have the username "a" with no password. Now when I visit localhost to view the webui it asks me for my username and password. It does NOT allow me to login!! It keeps asking for my username and password multiple times. Even though it is correct. Any ideas as to a fix for this? EDIT: solved. For some reason btsync decided to give me the password 'a' :-s So I logged in with username 'a' and password 'a'. (even though I set no password).

[sOLVED: See Last Edit] I have successfully followed the instructions for Debian Wheezy. However, I have run into some trouble. I originally installed a 'default instance' using the supplied wizard. At that time, I choose to bind the web server to 0.0.0.0. I chose a very large password (64 characters). All worked well. I changed the web server to bind to localhost. `which sudo` dpkg-reconfigure btsyncNow, I decided that I don't need any password, because it is limited to localhost only. So, I ran the option to reconfigure the default instance; I removed the username (therefore allowing no authentication). However, the problem is btsync still asks for (and accepts) the original username and 64 character password. In other words, it won't remove authentication... Could this be looked into? Or am I just doing it wrong? Here is my configuration file: "device_name": "S1 - Default Instance","storage_path" : "/var/lib/btsync","listening_port" : 12354,"check_for_updates" : false,"use_upnp" : false,"download_limit" : 0,"upload_limit" : 0,"disk_low_priority" : true,"lan_encrypt_data" : true,"lan_use_tcp" : false,"rate_limit_local_peers" : false,"folder_rescan_interval" : 120,"webui" :{ "listen" : "127.0.0.1:4321"}EDIT: I found a solution. It seems I can remove authentication by using the webui itself (Preferences -> Authorization). When I remove the password here, it removes authentication successfully Is this a bug? The reconfigure command says to leave the username blank to remove authentication. However, the webui says to leave the password blank to remove authentication. It seems like a bug because the reconfigure command actually doesn't remove authentication (at least in my tests), whereas the webui does successfully remove authentication (although interestingly requires that the username is explicitly NOT blank). Another bug, is that the secret cannot be copy and pasted (cannot be selected) on ipad (iOS) from the webui.

This build will not index any of my drives. It indexes only 20 Megabytes of a 500 Gigabyte drive...

BitTorrent Sync for iOS Bug reports and feature requests
Imnotatroll replied to raygan's topic in Sync General Discussion
One big problem for me on iOS: I have two *big* shared folders: 1. 500GB folder 2. 350GB folder When I open BTsync on my iPad it takes *minutes* for it to show these folders. I'm guessing it does some kind of "indexing" or something similar in order to show the shared folder. Well, it simply takes too long. I usually open BTsync and then go and make a sandwich. After the minutes of sandwich making it will then show the shared folders. Please make iOS show the shared folders faster. It should take a few seconds and not minutes! -
I managed to solve this problem by adding 'predefined hosts' and unticking all of the tracker options for each share. It has since been syncing without any problems.

I followed the instructions and installed it successfully. However some problems that I cannot solve: The webui is not loading. Cannot establish connection to ip:port. Even if I try connecting from localhost. Is btsync supposed to be running after following the instructions? How to run it? btsyncsh: btsync: command not found

My latest version now refuses to sync..... Just stopped in the middle of a 300GB job. Nothing I do will resume it. Gah!

1.1.82 seems quite buggy. Many times transfers won't even start. I've already submitted the logs to the support email. I have one share that shows 200MB left to upload and it hasn't done anything in the last 48 hours. Funny, as the total size of that share is over 400GB. :-P it transferred the 399GB but won't send the final 200MB :-D Hope it is fixed. (I'm running no firewalls/AV)

Well this was funny: I enabled debug logging and forgot to disable it when I was done. Check out the log file size: 15 Gigabytes!!

I get an error here and the fix posted did not work: sudo echo deb http://debian.yeasoft.net/btsync wheezy main contrib non-free >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/btsync.list-sh: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/btsync.list: Permission denied

BitTorrent Sync for iOS Bug reports and feature requests
Imnotatroll replied to raygan's topic in Sync General Discussion
Request: Recently sync'd/downloaded tab Reason: I have a music folder synced which contains hundreds of folders. I wanted to play a classical song by Dvorak. I started downloading it. I also started to download other songs from other folders. Now I wanted to find those songs that I had just downloaded. But guess what! I couldn't find where they were. That's because my music collection is hundreds of folders big! Imagine 25 folders containing classical music: "classical music 1800-1870", "classical music 1880-1912". Etc! So in this case with many folders it is impossible to navigate back to the original! A nice solution would be a "recently synced" tab. This way I would have a list of all recently downloaded files. I could then click on these files and select "open with" etc. -
BitTorrent Sync for iOS Bug reports and feature requests

REQUEST: Ability to add sync folder by using secret key. Some of us cannot use QR codes. Eg: the camera breaks, camera cannot focus, we are away from our bt sync computer. Right now I'm away from my computer running bt sync. So I cannot get the QR code to set it up on my iPad. But I do have my secret keys stored in lastpass/keepass. OR I can VNC/RDP into my computer and copy/paste the secret key. Please assume that some of us are using iPad/iPhone only, and no other local computer! So please add an option to add a folder by using secret keys (just like the desktop version). -
BitTorrent Sync for iOS Bug reports and feature requests
Imnotatroll replied to raygan's topic in Sync General Discussion
I found the solution to this. When I installed btsync I said NO to allowing the app to know my location. Backup then didn't work. After I reinstalled the app, I said YES to allow the app to know my location. Then camera roll backup worked instantly. -

BUG: iPad 2 iOS 5 Bt sync doesn't work at all. I turned on automatic camera roll backup, it says: "0 B in 0 files" "estimating size" and never progresses. I waited over 8 hours (overnight). The camera roll only contains 36 photos, so btsync is certainly not doing anything. -
Speeds drop after ~60GB uploaded
Imnotatroll replied to Imnotatroll's topic in Sync General Discussion
Interesting! It started to slow to 20KB/s again. I had the download limit set to 200KB/s. It seems the download limit throttle is incorrect and at some point limits to 20KB/s. Please look into the download throttle setting! -
Do NOT use these expensive alternatives You can get a dedicated server for $5 per month with a 500 GB drive. If you need over 500 GB then choose a higher one. Just get a cheap dedicated server: www.ovh.co.uk They sell to many countries, including USA and Europe. OVH has the biggest datacenters in Europe. And you get to control everything yourself. I've used them for years! The dirt cheap servers are coming into stock in a few weeks, according to the support team.

BitTorrent Sync 1.1.48 both clients on Windows (XP and Server 2008 R2). I have set it to back up my music collection one way to the internet. The total collection is 90GB in multiple folders, and many files (tens of thousands). After about 60GB uploaded (or 3 days of 24/7 uploading), the speed drops to 20KB/s, and NEVER goes higher. This is not my ISP throttling because restarting the client causes the speed to go back to maximum. If my ISP were throttling, the speed should continue to be slow after restarting the client, however this is not the case. It immediately goes to maximum speed and stays there (presumably until it craps out again). The server is more than capable of handling my upload speed from my home. The server is capable of 1 Gbps. I restarted only one client; the one on Server 2008 R2. So something is happening to cause the speed to slow down after some time.

PLEASE This!! It would make BT Sync the holy grail of personal file transfer. Give me a reason to abandon crusty old FTP :-P Also, Proxy support is a basic requirement for this (HTTP, SOCKS, etc). Many cannot use BT Sync because some ISP's require their proxy to be used. This is especially true for in enterprise and education. Proxy support is also useful in order to hide BT Sync traffic. I.e through an SSH tunnel or VPN, etc.

I am sharing a folder containing a document called: stock analysis.xlsx The following file keeps being syncd continuously: ~$stock analysis.xlsx This file keeps showing up in 'Transfers' tab in both clients. I suppose this file is created by Office. It's annoying to see this file constantly popping up even though I am not modifying any xlsx file for a long time. Is there a solution to stop this weird ghost file from syncing? Or is it needed somehow for proper functioning of xlsx (excel) files?

I would like to test the iOS version of btsync. I have iPad 2, iPad mini, and iPhone 4. Also, I have tons of free time for testing
