Another questions arised: What happens to those files which are not covered in any .SyncIgnore on Computers1/2/3 and therefore should normally synced, IF they are changed on Computer3? Are they just ignored in the sync, or will they be overwritten on each and every sync? I figured out, that IF I change a file on Computer1 and the File was never "touched" by me on Computer3, the file on Computer3 gets overwritten by the file from Computer1. (Which is what I expect to happen) If I change a File on Computer3, I expect it also to be overwritten, but it seems, that this is never happening, because what I see here, is that on Computer3 are a lot of "old" files, while Computer1 has the never ones which should be synced to Computer3. (*even* if I changed the Files on Computer3) So what is the btsync behaviour? What do I have to expect?

Here's what I did and now everything seems to be good :-) trying from scratch is sometimes better, than modify and modify and modify..., so I Removed the Directory 'X' from "My Sync" on all 3 Computers, so the .SyncID was deleted. I deleted all the files within the left folders on Computer2+3. (to prevent dead files taking space and attention...) I copied the .SyncIgnore file from Computer1 to Computer2, and a modified .SyncIgnore to Computer3, so that Computer3 only receives needed files. Now I added a new folder under "My Sync" on Computer1, generated a new Secrec and copied the R/O Secret, which I pasted to a newly added folder on Computer2 and Computer3. Thats it. (pretty simple, if u did it about 15 times...) The .SyncID files are now binary identical and the sync is working as expected. Thanks again!

Thank u RomanZ, it seems to work, but I'm a little bit confused about a different .SyncID file on Computer3: The both .SyncID files on Computer1+3 are binary identical (MD5 check), but Computer2 has different content in the .SyncID file. Can I just ignore this, or maybe it is founded because Computer1 (which is the source of all files in Directory 'X') has Full Access Secret, and Computer2+3 have R/O Secret set? Having the Folder Info Window open on those 3 Computers, I see that the Secrets are set up correct for my purpurses: Computer1 Full Access Computer2+3 Read Only

Hi all syncexperts, I'd like to do the following: a)Backup a complete Directory 'X' from Computer1 to Computer2. Take Directory 'X' from Computer2 to Computer3, but with only selected files from that Directory 'X'. In other words: backup *.* from Computer1 to Computer2 and copy only *.foo from Computer2 to Computer3. Will it work with creating a default .SyncIgnore on Computer1 and a customized .SyncIgnore on Computer2+3 which are identical on Computer2+3? Thank you,

Hi RomanZ, thanks for the hint with iCal. I wasnt aware, that users can use iCal to execute scripts as well. Unfortunately, this feature isnt available on newer OSX installations, like Mountain Lion or Mavericks, which I use. Also, there is a big drawback with using iCal: There are a couple of notable limitations to using iCal as a scheduling tool: You must be logged in for the AppleScript to run. As the Script obviously needs to run, when I'm not in front of the Mac (computer is running, but i'm not logged in), otherwise, I could do it manualy, the iCal way can't be used to run a scheduled job to change the bandwith limitation. Anyways, there seems to be an alternative method with Automator's 'Calendar Alarm', but I did'nt get into that atm.

no one a small hint or idea on how to solve this, while the big guys doing their work?

because of my companies slow bandwidth, I need to have a scheduler for btsync.

oh. thank you. I just not realized, that the mentioned thread was a wishlist. I'll add my voice, but I'm not asking for a solution IMPLEMENTED in btsync, just a solution for the mac OSX. I guess wished feature will not be implemented the next couple of months/years, so I'd like to have a workaround as soon as possible I can imagine a solution like writing a script which stops btsync process nicely, changes the needed values in the btsync.conf (if there is a btsync.conf, I just don't know now) and starts the btsync process again. something like that. And I'd like to hear/read from some others here, if there might be some complications or other things I need to check first.

Hi all, I'm using btsync on my companies stationary Mac. Because of the small Bandwidth here, I fiddled with the "Limit download/upload rate" settings, which worked quite well, after I figured out, that a restart of btsync is needed after every change. So far, so good. The Bandwidth should be limited at busines hours (say 8h-19h) but unlimited after busines hours (say 20h-7h). Is there any way I can accmplish that? Is there somebody out there which has a similar scenario and migth have a solution for that issue? Thank you! Actually, it does happen on *every* crash of btsync, not only from time to time. Is there a Tool which I can use to view the contents of the DMP file? Just to review the appearance of private information, as told in the dialogue "Feedback" of btsync.

Hi All, very interesting thread, thank you all for clarification, but Data Loss (although the files are moved to the .SyncArchive) is not quite an option. I'll add myself later to the wishlist as mentioned above, because renaming a file (adding some text which explain shortly the sync-problem) would be a good compromise here. Just to add my scenario, because I have a question which is not covered here. So please excuse my reopening: This leaves the question for me, why, after deleting the file on windows and renaming it correctly on the mac, there is an inconsistency between the 3 synced folders? The file "Funky is on (Funky Family).m4r" is missing on windows, but exists on Mac and Linux, AND it has the same case on those two systems. Why isn't it written to windows again?

Thank you for clarification! I relied on the autoupdate-feature on mac/win *and* on the "up to date" message from the linux webGUI. (Also "Check for newer Versions" said the software was up to date on win/mac) Computer generated messages are not dependable at all, it seems. Have updated all three devices and will check again...

WebGUI says: "Version 1.2.72 ( up to date )" Windows says: "1.1.82" Mac says: "1.1.82 (1.1.82)" Also it produces tons of 2013-08-29 07.49.43.jpg.!sync (Photos from Camera) files with the size of the original image, but filled with zero-bytes.... but thats another (very very bad) issue...

nope. same thing. btsync deletes files which are newer. i'm seeing this since two weeks, since i gave btync a second chance after a long time.

I'm happy, you could solve your issue so easily :-) For me, it seems, debugging does not work, by just adding a folder with the same permissions and owner:groups and the FFFF file. Dunno why and now I can't spend more time now. I'll wait until debugging can be tuned on/off in a simpler way.
