  1. This is not ideal for Sync and would not work. If you would have your pictures in a folder structure like say ~/Users/LifeLines/Pictues/Project/ (on your backup iMac) and you add that folder to Sync and then run Sync on your MacBook Pro and add that Project folder as Selective Sync folder you would be able to selectivly download pictures on your MacBook Pro. Right now Selective Sync does not support Thumbnail preview. So you won't see what the images are until you actually download them. I, speaking for myself, don't know of any good way to achieve your needs and to be honest I don't know if it is possible. Since the structue of the .photoslibrary file is just more than a folder. There are a lot of databases in the background managing the files etc. You can easily corrupt that database if you're not carefull. But, if you had a copy of the .photoslibrary on your MacBook Pro and your iMac you can the Picture folder to BitTorrent Sync and have it fully sync the whole thing. Then if you add a folder you can have your library in sync wherever you open it. But that means that you need to have the disk capacity. Maybe someone else has an idea how to tackle that issue.. You definitely, before playing around with that, make sure to have a backup of your .photoslibrary! That is essential.
  2. You should take a look at this and that. Also that for general information. IMO you have a server in your home that you use you can buy one pro license and apply to it all your machines. Should be fine. That I mean only for personal use though! If it is related to any businessy things - do what the help articles say or reach out to the sales team to get legal things right.
  3. You can get rid of .journal, .journal.zip, .log and sync.log.*.zip But if you run into issues and the Sync Support Team asks for your logs - you just deleted them so be mindful about that.
  4. Are you using the standard or advanced folders? See here for more information The advanced folders can reduce transfer speeds in some setups. I would suggest you try it out with the standard ones and see what your results are. Be mindful that you don't have to re-sync your data - some people think that but you actually don't have to. You can also take a look at this article How can I improve data transfer/sync speed? There might be something in there for you to enhance your speeds further. Also be sure to run the latest version available on your NAS. Right now that should be 2.2.7.
  5. In BitTorrent Sync 2.2.7, which is the latest version right now, you can still create classic folders so you can sync between 1.4 and 2.X. http://help.getsync.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2112392-folders Go to manual connection and enter the RW key and you should be ok. Also I would suggest you update your OS X machines to the very latest version available - just because of the security updates! It's like running XP in the wild
  6. Sync does not mess with access rights to files or folders
  7. A general advice here is to run the same BitTorrent Sync version on all your devices. Also the latest version, 2.2.7 as of now, has had lot's of fixes regarding your issues. So you might want to give it a try. I am also curious why you are still running Windows XP at all?
  8. You can also try to run with your current configuration /usr/bin/btsync --nodaemon --config /etc/btsync/config.jsonOr just the following to see if it will run at all /usr/bin/btsync --nodaemonBecause if that runs there is something from with the init.d script.
  9. Just have a skype/facetime call and use TeamViewer to do it remote. That should be easy enough I guess
  10. You're welcome, glad it works so good for you I am curious, how did you fix it? Did you use my instructions or did you do other changes?
  11. I have to agree with fnordsensei that it is kind of not intuitive to have me create a basically temporary identity.. confused me so much the first time and I have been around for a while with Sync lol
  12. 1.) I think you should take a look at https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/DS716+ if you really want just 2 bay. I would not go for that personally since file size of movies increase due to better quality. Also if you then eventually have a NAS you discover that it is quite convenient to backup your computers somewhere and then you run out of space on your NAS and I don't know about you but I would not wanna have external harddrives dangeling on my NAS permanently. I get it if you want to move files onto it to take to friends house or get data back or something but not as a permanent solution. I would go for a 4 or 5 bay one. (Huge investment but worth it in the end + just because you have 4 or 5 bays does not mean you have to fill them with HDDs on day one. You can simply add more as time goes on) 2.) When you run BitTorrent Sync under it's own user like btsync you can set permission to that user to be able to access your private folder that only you can access. So yes, that should work. 3.) AFAIK you can have 1 pro license and up to 10 identities with it. So you would not have to buy 3 pro licenses, just one 4.) Yes, that is exactly how I am doing it right now. I have my 128GB MacBook Air and my NAS hold my "My Documents" folder and other folder worth 70GB. And I can download them on demand.
  13. Make sure to update to 2.2.7 that you can get at https://getsync.com Maybe that will help fix the issue
  14. That just does seem like an edge case though. You can just create multiple/different backup locations for each time you reset your phone to avoid that, what you call "glitch" which is not a glitch. IMO a backup should not mingle with my files in any way. A backup is a 1:1 thing
  15. Check out http://help.getsync.com/ you will find a guide there - I am on mobile can't find the article right now
  16. When you start BitTorrent Sync on your Raspberry Pi for the first time you have to create an identity before you can link it to your other machines. After you create an identity you see the normal webgui and then you can go to my devices and link it to your "normal" identity and thus other devices.
  17. New release 1.1.1 Backup-ing With this release I am overhauling the backup functionality. Now I am doing it right. I am creating a tar ball that includes the following files and directories. /home/pi/.btsync/ /etc/btsync/config.json /usr/bin/btsync /home/<user>/.btsync It does not include .log files or zipped .log files (sync.log.*.zip) nor does it include .journal files. The .tar.gz file will be located in your home directory and is called btsync_backup_01.01.1970_00-00-00.tar.gz. It is created using the tar -czPf flags using absolute paths. When you want to restore a backup it will restore all files listed above. Version display Now when you update your installation the script will output your current version and the one you just upgraded to. For new installations it will also let you know what version you just installed. Other than that I did some minor tweaks here and there and added/changed some of the verbose output for the end user. You can get the latest version of the script following the instructions on the main page again.
  18. On your mac you have a context menu (right click menu) options for .bts files. When BitTorrent Sync is running you can right click on a selection of .bts files and click "Sync to this device" having them download but not open. This also works for folders so you can right click a folder and have it download. If you don't see the right click menu when you have BitTorrent Sync running open System Preferences -> Extensions -> Finder -> check the box for BitTorrent Sync or if checked, uncheck and then check it again. /e Oh I just saw that you are using a super old version of OS X so no finder extension love for you buddy :/ My suggestion is, update to 10.10 if possible..
  19. I guess If you are in a business environment you have solutions to roll out software packages But if it's < 10 you should be fine doing it manually.
  20. It would not be a good idea to just update a piece of software without the permission of the end user prior. They push auto-update notification for new versions when they think a version is ready for that.
  21. Is the device you're deleting the file from a read-only node?
