My conclusion after mucking around with it today, "check_for_updates" flag or not, 1.4.103.0 doesn't like being in a Windows service. I have dumps, would you like me to email them to support?

I couldn't see any clues in the log. Shouldn't "use gui" suppress this notification anyway?

Will put debug.txt in there and test again.

Sorry am I able to request a little more information on this post. By config file I presume this refers to the start up file and not the API with set_prefs? http://sync-help.bittorrent.com/customer/portal/articles/1570845-set_prefs If so, adding "check_for_updates" crashes windows on start up.
