  1. Hi, Thanks for that - its already set to that on both peers. The issue really hits hard when sync is trying to copy files at the same time as Indexing
  2. My issue here is that when you want to re-add a folder, that was originally RO, it comes back as RW.. Is there no support for a RO folder in V2?
  3. Hi All, So I've got a bunch of 1.4 folders shared. I've problems where BitSync isn't syncing very well (ticket opened) and so wanted to re-add them to see if that helped. Using a small folder (50gb) to test. I've 3 PCs, all running 2.0.105 I disconnected one PC that was a RO version. When I come to reconnect it, theres no option to re-add it as a RO folder again. If I remove the folder, it removes it from all 3 PCs (oh great!) When I add it back on one of the PCs, it adds it to the others, but then adds it into the Default folder, rather than where the original RO was. So how do you re-connect a folder as RO ?
  4. Hi, Is there a way to control the I/O that bitsync uses ? Some of my PCs have USB drives attached to them and I've noticed Bitsync locking up and greying out (Wndows 7 64bit). I think it may be because Bitsync is trying to Index thousands of small files whilst syncing simultaneously in other folders. If I can limit the I/O I'm hoping that might help it. Thx
  5. I have to say I agree with this. I've upgraded to v2 today, and I have no idea if my files are synced or not. The reason I upgraded was because 1.4 seemed to simply stop syncing. I occasionally see "indexing" on one PC, but if I create a new file in a synced folder, nothing transfers over. All my folders are 1.4 Classics.
  6. Hi, Ok I checked Truecrypt settings over and all the settings are the same on both machines. I was wondering if I should of copied over some of Bitsyncs config files from one machine to the other ? The drive layouts and folder layouts are the same so it wouldn't of changed.
  7. Hi, Thanks I will check it. I'm not syncing *.tc files though, or even using .tc files in the encryption. Its using whole drive encryption and that should be transparent to an application like Bitsync.
  8. Hi, many thanks for the reply. So I'm running as user "adrian", whos a local administrator. Security on the 17-noname 082.mpg shows as Full Control for adrian. In fact, its Full Control for Everyone. The folder is set that way too. On this laptop there are no other applications running. I downloaded Handle.exe from sysinternals, and it shows one PID using that file: Handle v4.0Copyright © 1997-2014 Mark RussinovichSysinternals - www.sysinternals.com BTSync.exe pid: 5220 type: File 1AC: S:\Backup from ASUS\Video Working Folder\Hi8\17-Noname 082.mpg C:\Users\adrian\Desktop> PID 5220 is bitsync.exe, so it seems that its bitsync itself that has the file lock. I've tried rebooting the laptop but this continues after reboot. in fact looking at all the files in that folder, only Bitsync has open handles to them. As "adrian" I'm able to create/delete/edit files in the folder. I created a new empty text file in the RW PC, which successfully got replicated in the RO laptop.I compared the security settings of that those 2 files and they match.. so I don't believe this is permissions. the .mpg files are quite large, 3-4Gb per file. Could it just be taking a very long time to examine the files ?It does seem to list the .mpg files, all quite large. Another possible complication, is that the USB drive is Truecypt encrypted (entire disk). However it was the same on the other laptop so I wouldn't expect that to be an issue.
  9. Hi All, I've a USB drive connected to an Windows laptop where I'm trying to use sync to have an offsite backup, a Read-only version. The data is all copied, however the laptop is slow and so i wanted to replace it with a new one, more memory, better CPU etc. I've tried to move the USB drive over, installed Bitsync and readded the first folder (approx 57Gb) however its basically sat there not showing a lot of progress. there really shouldn't of been anything to 'sync' as it was already there. I turned on debug, and I saw errors relating to torrent files being created and deleted. Some googling suggested (on linux systems) that it might be file permissions, so I've tried resetting file ownership (NTFS). Thats not made any difference. I've tried moving the files out of the folder, recreating the entire folder using Bitsync, stoping bitsync, and then move the buik of the tilfes back in again so that Bitsync rechecked them at startup. my goal here is not to have to re-transfer terrabytes of data over the Internet again. At the moment, for 12 hours all I've seen in the logs are errors such as the below 134 errors and 137 errors. In previous posts I've asked about these and been told they weren't an issue, but right now its all I have to go with. I don't see any *.sync* files for temporary files, the bitsync.exe process is running as my user so should have all the file permissions (I can create/edit/delete files). All my clients are running. 1.4.110. Any help would be really appreciated. 10. Is that file metadata in NTFS?, or content in the file ? I just tested by moving one .CR2 file and its .xmp counterpart. I generated an MD5 hash for both, then used Lightroom to move the file. Bitsync showed both files as add/remove, but afterwards I regenerated the MD5s again, and they all match.
  11. Well.. the move within-folders doesn't seem to work too well either. I just moved files (in Lightroom) to a subfolder, about 30gb.. and its detected them all as 'Added file..' then 'Removed file'... rather than a move and is now re-transmitting them.
  12. thats a shame, for some reason I'd thought it was a feature of 1.4 :-(
  13. Hi, I decided to take the plunge and go from 1.3 to 1.4.93, mainly because I thought that the new version supported moving files between folders better. On the first startup on my fast PC (win 8), the application actually froze, to where window asked me if I wanted to close it. On the second (slower win 7) PC, it did the same, until it eventually came up asking me if I wanted a script to keep running. After that it seemed business as usual. I've noticed a memory footprint increase of around 50mb which isn't great but we'll see if that settles down after startup. Then finally I try to move about 6Gb of files from one folder (internal HD) to another (external HD). I was expecting the files to move, Bitsync to detect the files, examine them and then determine them to be files it already knew about, and for the second PC to replicate the move. Instead bitsyncs detected them as a delete/add of the files and is currently transmitting the 6Gb around the network. This wasn't what I was hoping for :-(
  14. everything I read here in the forums seems to suggest 1.4.x is a bad upgrade from 1.3.x At the moment the only feature I'm missing that I'd like is inter-folder moves, which I believe is in 1.4.x but the bad reports about the GUI and other bugs make me want to hold off. I guess I'd ask - is there going to be a retraction for the GUI? or are you sticking with this web interface ?
  15. Is 1.4 generally available ? The updater isn't advertising it yet. - ah never mind.. I can see in the forums is under testing.. but good news this is coming !!
  16. I'd vote for something like this to be improved. I work with large video/photo files. I'm using BitSync to sync a backup over from one PC to another. Theres 2 bitsync folders involved. When I'm done working on a project I move the files between folders to free up space. Bitsync treats it as a delete-from-folder-A and an add-to-folder-B. Its not smart enough to know all it has to do is 'move' the files around on the second PC as well. Obviously I understand its not easy to spot a move from the o/s, but I'd hope bitsync could find a smart way around this.
  17. Hi All, I sync two folders between two PCs. One of the photos sits on each PCs Hard disk as a working area. Once the work is done, I move the work over to the second folder, which sits on an external USB disk, on both PCs. The USB drives are because its 100s of GBs of video and photos and once edited they don't need to stay on the laptop. So - when I move the files on the first PC, Bitsync obligingly deletes the files in the second PC as the first moves the files over. Once the files moved, Bitsync then re-transmits the entire file over to the second PC again. Can't we make this smarter somehow ? Move the files locally ?, rather than having to retransmit Gigs of data that already exists on the same PCs. I've no idea how BitSync could detect the "move", so I'm not hopeful :-(
  18. Bitsync is peer-to-peer, so if your folders are set to use relay servers and tracker servers then it'll need to communicate out. 750Kb down and 4Mb up isn't a lot of data so I'd expect its just some kind of handshake out to the trackers.
  19. ok.. I've narrowed something down. On the Folders 'not working', I'd disabled relay and tracker server Search LAN is still on but obviously not working. Turning them on on one Folder caused it to show in Devices.. I'll keep testing There just basic Windows firewall (Win 7 on one PC, Win 8.1 on the other). Win8.1: Has a rule to allow the 'Bittorrent Sync (TCP-in and UDP-in)' for Private and Public Win 7 machine: Also has a rule to allow inbound connections After I got one working.. the others have now suddenly kicked in and sync is starting up again...
  20. ok... rebooting doesn't help mine. I've turned debug on both PCs. Reading through the log I see both machines are able to ping each other. On one of the PCs I see a message like: 2014-01-02 21:22:45.900] Got ping (broadcast: 0) from peer 192.168.0.4:30266 (00C***************************************) for share 611************************************* I'm not sure what those IDs are. After the startup it carrys on sending broadcast pings on both machines. I'm trying to email the logs in
  21. Hi, I've two PCs running 1.2.82, with 4 paths syncing between the 2 PCs. Theres also a sync path with an iPhone For some reason, despite all 4 showing in the Folders area on both PCs, and both PCs on the same LAN, only 1 of them shows under Devices, and the iphone one too. I'm making changes to files that that PC detects, but its not transferring to the other PC. I'll start logging etc to see, but anyone else seeing this ? All drives are writable, firewall rules look ok and it was working.
  22. I'm now using on a LAN between two PCs. It syncs my music a photos automatically, as well as documents. Then, my second PC uses Crashplan to sync up to the web. I use them, because they have Unlimited versioning of files. I also use Mediamonkey to manage the MP3s on both PCs. With this setup I can modify the collection on either PC, and have it sync to the other within a few seconds. Crashplan then also backups up those changes to the cloud meaning I can 'undo' any change. So far - pretty good, although it gets lost on some files changes leaving temporary files behind, so I periodically have to manually check for those.
  23. I'd have to agree with daishi4u After reboot, the client sits there adding files that are alrady synced. On mine it means its sat there for an hour+
