  1. We live in a world where services and products need to be paid for. I accept the risk that in the future a product may rise in price. Conversely, I may also walk away from the product when I feel that the price is too high. There are always alternatives. Let's support these developers. They too need to eat and make a living.
  2. I agree that a promise was broken. At the same time I don't mind paying $ 40 a year. Why? Because it will support continued development. This is incredibly advanced software with huge complexities. It provides us users amazing convenience circumventing the cloud and making syncing of large files simple and easy. The 10 folder limit (with unlimited subfolders) and one identity for multiple devices is not unreasonable for a product that is free. What will we do as users to assure that these developers will continue to advance this piece of amazing software? I propose we pay a reasonable fee. What is reasonable? 1 Starbucks cappuccino per month. Now that is a hell of a deal. Let's support these developers.
  3. I find $40 per year a bit steep I would go for $ 25. However, I would also like to support this software, so I may do it. one suggestion. Why not pledge as a company a portion of each subscription to a good cause e.g. helping people in poor countries to obtain internet service. This would make paying the Pro version more attractive.
  4. When you say you ran echo 2 > /proc/cpu/alignment how did you do that and what userid and password did you then use for bit torrent sync? I cannot get it to work on my QNAP HS-210. A step by step instruction would help me. Thanks.
  5. Thank you for your suggestions. I followed them to the letter: User id admin and empty password did not work. I also tried with password "password" this did not work either. I get my ip nr:14888 and "this webpage is not available.' Any other suggestions. I really want this to work. I am willing to try anything to get this to work. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
  6. I installed bittorrent sync on a QNAP NAS HS-210. The version number is 1.1.82. Upon opening the app it asks me to agree with the usual legalese and then a window comes up which I have never seen before i.e. it does not come up on my synology NAS. I attach it here. No matter what I try. I cannot get BT sync to start and create folders on the NAS. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  7. For encrypted backup to other computers that you don't want others to read, I highly recommend Crashplan. The free version allows you to use computers and disks from friends and family ad colleagues all over the world. Encryption takes place before sending and during transmission and at the endpoint it is encrypted. The recipient cannot read it unless he has both your account and your password. Syncing is something else than backing up.
  8. I have set up sync folders on a Mac mini at our home and while traveling had our laptops sync with the Mac mini as backup (read only) using bit torrent sync. Worked flawlessly. I am considering the following setup. Have our home computers (3) sync their critical files on the Mac mini that serves as a backup. Install Crashplan on the Mac mini and pay for a 1 computer backup on their Crashplan central. In this way I don't have to pay for a family plan, while at the same time all the computers, including the laptops will always be offsite backed up. So step 1 is to use bit torrent sync critical folders to my central Mac mini for desktops and laptops Step 2 is to use crash plan for that computer to backup to Crashplan central as insurance for theft, fire paying only for 1 computer
  9. In my application support folder on Mountain Lion 10.8.5 I had a bit torrent folder of 5.9GB! It turned out that in the folder there was log file of that size. When I double clicked it, it opened the console and showed an endless list of messages. So I deleted the folder and it had no effect on bit torrent sync. Perhaps the size can be limited and automatically trigger a delete operation with an update?
