My IT department blocks BTSync, down to the getsync.com domain. I'm assuming that it's because it uses the BT protocol, which I understand can be quite bandwidth intensive. Trying to be a good corporate citizen, I'm thinking of ways to play nice with their policy, but still use BTSync as my 'home' option. Is anyone currently doing this, or have any opinion on how to do it? My thoughts are to double sync a drive - i.e., my server at home as a BTSync drive, that's also mapped to DropBox or something IT at work will let me run. Then I just keep the two in sync that way.

Hello: Two questions: I was wondering if there's a way to specify to BTsync to ignore all folders named a certain thing, under a specific subtree. i.e., I tend to sync hobby Unity projects using BTsync between my PCs, and I put them all under a "Unity" directory. For those of you unfamiliar with Unity, it generates a host of temporary and intermediate files in the "Libraries" and "Temp" folders of a given project. As such, I'd like btsync to avoid syncing those, so syntax like this would be great to have: Unity/**/Libraries/ Unity/**/Temp/ That is, I'd love to say, "Under the Unity/ directory, which exists in root, ignore *all* subdirectories that are the literal case insensitive match for Libraries and Temp". Is that possible? Second question: is the sync ignore list synced? Or is that per machine? Thanks! -e-

Just bumping this - is anyone else seeing this? Even on the latest, (1.3.106) my CPU is pegged at 100% and the website never loads (constantly "waiting for "). My current work around is to use cpulimit to set the process to some sane limit, but I still can't get access to the website to see how syncs are occuring. I'd love to have this be usable again on my Linux box.

I have a firewall that I'm not in control of that's not permitting me to btsync with. What are the normal solutions to this (aside from finding a network administrator and bribing them with flattery? )? The only thing I can think of involves socat and ssh tunnels, but i'm hoping something simpler is available.

Hrmm, good point. That's actually odd - if I use htop (where I got the original output from), it shows multiple processes. However using top or just ps auxf | grep btsync only yields me one. Regardless, it's taking 95% CPU. I imagine htop is reporting incorrectly the number of processes, or I'm reading it incorrectly. Now, that said, I do have a perhaps non-typical use case: I use rsnapshot to build a snapshot of my linux box every night. I currently rsync that snapshot to a place that btsync indexes (to get around the entire tree disappearing for a bit, then having it repopulate -- I'm trying to avoid indexing more than necessary). That backup tree is quite large however (~200GB). Is the speed of the web response as well as the CPU utilization normal for this type of utilization? Am I using btsync in a way that's unexpected? (Large dataset, updated nightly; although typically it should only be deltas?) Thanks. I really do like BTSync for this kind of work, it'd be a shame if this case couldn't be sped up.

Similarly, sometimes the web GUI doesn't show the sync points. I notice the version number doesn't show up either. How can I diagnose these two issues? I've specified debug logging now and can't see any information pertaining to it.

Hello: I'm noticing that the btsync application crashes (or, I should say, mysteriously drops from the active processes) after a while, on my QNAP TS-220. I've followed the steps here [1], following the ARM install, but using the latest executable from the website. Is there any way I can get better diagnostics as to why it's crashing? Hello: Just started using BTSync and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm using it to backup my family's photo albums, my machine configs, etc, across different countries, to secure against chances of robbery/fire/etc. Pretty happy that this is working pretty smoothly. That said, one thing that I'd love to request, is the ability to set a host as only being permitted the 'encrypted' copy of the data. If my family were to sync things with passwords, or login information, I'd sleep easier knowing that it's not only encrypted during the transfer, but also in it's final resting place. I realize a way around this would be to encrypt the copy on the senders side as well, but seeing as how you're already encrypting the data, it would be nice to have it be done through the application transparently.
