  1. @Hans# Sorry about that. We have to postpone it to one of future releases. I understand it is important for you, but we are a small team and we have to choose carefully which content to include in every release we do. Thank you for understanding.

For the losing the certificate. As far as I see in your messages history - you have your Sync running on a NAS device. When NAS package upgrades, it unpacks and overwrites files - including the sync.conf where you place the certificate. This is done intentionally as any changes in a new sync.conf should be delivered during the upgrade, otherwise that may render whole package unusable. I could advise to SSH into your NAS and copy sync.conf before the upgrade. Once upgrade done, merge certificate section back into new config file.

  2. @Andy+ @Miyo We are slowly rolling out 2.6.4 for Android to the store. You'll get it soon. If not yet there - ask me, I can share the APK.

@Miyo Do I get it right that once you updated to 2.6.4 you no longer see the empty UI?

@Hans# Sorry, the fix is not yet there. For the installation - it depends on your environment. If you are running your Sync with config file and point to certificate file somewhere else - upgrade should not affect your setup.

    @Timbo Thanks for the feedback.

  3. @eltopo Indeed. We are going to get it fixed soon :)

@Shlen Double checked on Catalina - works as expected, placeholder stays and shows the progress till file gets loaded. Integration with OS shell is always kinda breaking point. As a quick solution try right-clicking and pick the "Sync to this device". Alternatively, collect debug logs + make a short video + send us support ticket with all that stuff.

    • 1. No. If corporate firewall blocks UDP, Sync still has chances to connect over TCP. But in TCP case you'll 100% need to manually port forward at home.

      2. Same here. If tracker server is not available from your office location, you'll need to explicitly forward ports for UDP at home.

      3. It depends on how you use Sync. If you use Sync's UI, you can simply specify your home public address and port forwarded in folder properties (see Known Hosts). If you specify all your folders via configuration file - then you'll need to put predefined hosts in config file, too.

    • @BensTech Our tests indicate that VPN seriously affects WAN acceleration. Not just some of the overhead, but pretty much killing the optimization. Exact numbers depend a lot on VPN vendor: each VPN solution behaves differently.

For now WAN optimization only enables itself in WAN automatically. Never in LAN. This is how the switch implemented at the moment. In enterprise version of Sync (Resilio Connect) it is possible to explicitly force product to follow WAN optimization no matter if it's global network or local one.

For the encryption - disabling encryption only works in LAN. Encryption can't be disabled in WAN.

      So, to sum up:
      1) to test the WAN optimization - use global network, i.e. either source or destination must have global address.
      2) VPN kills optimization, so ensure that Sync traffic goes outside of VPN.

    • @Oak In answer, I assume that Bob and Alice has two separate ecosystems, i.e. they did not shared keys or links of their folders, containing "myfavoritepizzas.jpg". If this is true, once Alice connects her phone back to her own ecosystem, her new phone will download pizzas image from her own peers. Not a single bit from Bob.

    • @BensTech WAN acceleration only runs in WAN. As you got VPN tunnel (and likely use local IP addresses) Sync believes it is in LAN and does not enable WAN acceleration, even though allowed to.

Also note, that VPN tunnel is likely going to kill WAN optimization too: it wraps all the packets inside it's own containers reducing MTU and using own protocol of communications between VPN client and gateway therefore killing all the optimizations.

If you want to get all the benefits of WAN optimization, let Sync traffic flow outside of VPN tunnel.
