  1. Hi everyone, I have just updated from 1.3x to the newest 1.4 version. I am running 2 computers on Win8 64bit, one computer on Win 7 64 bit and one on win 7 32 bit. All 64 bit computers have exhibited the following problem: - I install bittorrent sync, run it, and it runs fine. - I restart the program (or computer) and I get the error that BTsync has crashed (do I want to send the logs etc) - if I reinstall the program, it works fine again - until I stop and restart it This behavior does not exibit on the WIN7 32 bit machine. Can anyone help? Crash log attached... Thanks! T --- BTsyncError.zip --- This post and its issue are a continuation from the post at: http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/30145-sync-crashes-on-start-up-with-windows-7-64-bit/
  2. @Marko - no, because the folder structure is integral to my work environment. I can't modify this structure. If I need to share a bunch of folders that are all spread out over different hard drives, it becomes quite a lot of entries to manage in the GUI. Perhaps a naming system could work? Color coding? Drag-and-drop style groups, etc... I work with a lot of media files, so I can't just throw everything in one folder and share that; I have to respect the structures and nomenclatures already in place.
  3. As someone who has *many folders synced, and many *individual folders, I would love to see a "sync group" option. For example, if I want to sync 8 folders on 3 laptops, I could call this group my "LOCAL CLOUD" - but then if I wanted to sync 4 other folders with outside folks, let's say I could call this group "CLIENT ACCESS" or some such. This kind of sub-grouping would greatly aid my organisation. Thanks! T
  4. Hi guys, Did anyone receive a reply or fix for this? I appear to be having the same issue. Thanks! Let me elaborate on the problem I am having - I have just updated from 1.3x to the newest 1.4 version. I am running 2 computers on Win8 64bit, one computer on Win 7 64 bit and one on win 7 32 bit. All 64 bit computers have exhibited the following problem: - I install bittorrent sync, run it, and it runs fine. - I restart the program (or computer) and I get the error the OP posted (BTsync crashes hard) - if I reinstall the program, it works fine again - until I stop and restart it - it works fine on the WIN7 32 bit machine If anyone can elucidate me on this, it would be OMGsuperMEGAawesim. Thanks, T
  5. I am having similar problems- however it's the behavior or BTsync that I don't understand: when syncing the root of a Data-only drive, BTsync performs the initial indexing and tells me everything is up to date. Then, I will add a file or folder to one computer- but it does not sync to the other computer. I have had a similar problem before where it would simply stop syncing files after a certain letter. Can anyone offer advice? Ford- what did you delete exactly to get things to work? I am running win 7/8
  6. Is anyone using BTsync as a backup solution? For example, by modifying the sync_trash_ttl variable? I'm wondering why I would run an extra backup program (ex: BackupPC, Syncrify, etc) for my client machines , when most of my folders are duplicated on my desktop and two laptops... Thoughts?
  7. I have the same problem. When you say "that did the job," what do you mean by "that" ?
  8. As suggested, I ran "Handle" (Process Explorer) and was unable to gather further info. IE, no process was listed as holding ont something in my SYNC folder
  9. Thank you Marko. Elradon, just to clarify, since you took time out of your day to ask why I should care: new builds often come with new functionalities, especially in the ase of Beta products. As there are a number of fixes and features on the table, I am hopeful that many issues will be assressed in the upcoming build. Certain parts of my sync architecture depend on these new builds (for example the ability to sync the root of a drive or not) so I am asking to establish whether and when I can modify my current systems. Thanks for asking.
  10. I have managed to get teh floowing Simple Nested scenario to work: MY DOCUMENTS syncs from machine 1 to machine 2 MY DOCUMENTS/QUICKBOOKS syncs from machine 1 to machine 3 So, MY DOCUMENTS/QUICKBOOKS *also* syncs from machine 1 to machine 2 because its inside the larger sync group of MY DOCUMENTS. I didn't read thru the entire thread, so I hope this info is relevant. I have sub-synced just one folder of a larger synced folder, to another computer - that's pretty cool. MR
  11. Hi, I syncronize a folder called DOCUMENTS between my two computers. When I go to the DEVICES tab and look at the STATUS column, it does not say SYNCED, as the other folders do - it gives an UP ARROW that says 71.5kB and a DOWN ARROW that says 83.0kB. It has been like this all day. I have rebooted BTsync and both computers. I have also removed that particular folder and re-added it with a new secret, all to no avail. There is nothing locking the file. Any idea why there is unsynced data? What can I do to resolve this? Thanks! MR
  12. Maybe somebody else has been curious and asked this already, but... When is the next build coming out? wh000000t
  13. PLUS ONE MILLION for this feature.
  14. Hello Sync-ers, In my computer setup, I have integrated a disaster recovery system by cloning (or "ghosting") entire physical drives in the case of hardware failure. I have BTsync running between my desktop and laptop, cloning one of the physical drives in question. My query is in regard to BTsync's behavior when swapping out a drive or "rolling back" the data on a partition on one machine. What happens to the data on the other after re-syncronization? For example: Let's say I have My Data Drive on My Desktop PC which contains Folder A. I clone Data Drive to My Laptop PC. It now contains Folder A as well. I set up a synced folder betweent he two machines via BTsync: as I work on Data Drive on My Desktop, it syncs Folder A to the Laptop and vice-versa. During the next months, I create Folder B on My Desktop PC. Of course, it gets synced to the Laptop. Both PCs now contain Fodler A and Folder B. That night (horror!) the Data Drive on my Desktop fails. I need ZERO DOWNTIME so I swap out the physical drive on My Desktop PC for my clone drive I made months ago. This drive does not contain Folder B. The computer boots, and I am ready to go: BTsync starts up - what happens? a) does Folder B get deleted from Laptop or Does Folder B get copied from Laptop to Desktop PC Any clarification as to this process will help my sleep patterns greatly. Thanks, MR
  15. Hi all, I had a question about how the BTsync app works, specifically on an iphone. I have: set up a sync folder for my Music Library downloaded and installed the Sync App for iPhone scanned the QR code opened the app and seen my Music Library folder (wh00t!)So now, at this point, I see the folder on my iPhone. I do *not8 have automatic downloads on. What is the behavior of the app if I: tap the Music Library folder (now I see all my artist folders) - will the entire folder download to my phone to be stored locally?tap the folder called "Sting" (now I see "Ten Summoner's Tales" - again, will the entire folder download to my phone to be stored locally?tap the folder called "Ten Summoner's Tales" - now I see the list of MP3s. Again, what is the phone doing? What gets stored?tap one of the MP3s - at this point, there is a green checkmark on the file. I assume *now* the file gets stored locally, because I can play it shortly thereafter This would be an interesting scenario for a video portfolio. You could store the files on a server and choose which ones you would take with you on your iPad for client viewing. I've read the (short) litt on the app - but I'm still not clear on the actual storage behavior. I have a huge library, and don't want it to overload my phone. Any help appreciated - thanks! MR
  16. Greetings Sync Monkeys, I absolutely LOVE BTsync - great job so far. I created this user to participate in the forum so I can tell you about a problem I have spent a full day on trying to resolve and can not: I am a media creator and have my sound libraries on a 2TB drive. I want to sync these libraries to my laptop so I can easily create music using these libraries on the road. Given the massive size and somewhat dynamic nature of these libraries (I constantly update my sounds), BTsync is PERFECT for what I need. I set up BTsync to syncronize my S: drive on my workstation to my S: drive on my laptop. I did the same with my T: drive (my second set of libraries). To my dismay, on one drive, only a few megabytes of 1.2 terabytes syncronized, and on the other drive *nothing* synchronized. I tried changing permissions, drive ownership, share settings, tried leaving it overnight to sync - all to my dismay. The indexing on the host machine was not at all matching up with what it should have been. Then I discovered how to turn on the debug logging. here is what I found in the error log: New torrent created for file System Volume Information\tracking.log mt:1388884139 DA49A9B09544F1E47F42C5B97919A7EF45CA6550 [2014-01-12 19:49:30.112] SyncFolderScanner: Got error 5 while obtaining file info for \\?\Q:\System Volume Information\ Something was up with the System Volume Information folder (a system folder present on the root of Windows drives). I did some more hunting, and someone had come up with a solution, granting Admin rights to the folder: http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/26177-solved-issues-with-folder-system-volume-information-on-windows-machine/ I tried this solution, but got another error: New torrent created for file System Volume Information\tracking.log mt:1388884139 DA49A9B09544F1E47F42C5B97919A7EF45CA6550 [2014-01-12 19:49:30.112] SyncFolderScanner: Got error 5 while obtaining file info for \\?\Q:\System Volume Information\SPP So, it's the same error, but nested down a level. I wasn't about to changed permissions on 4 drives , nested X levels deep. So, I did some more hunting and found this article: http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/22772-suggestion-to-add-several-windows-specific-entries-to-syncignore/ The poster suggested adding the recycle bin and the system volume information folders to the default sync exclusion list. An excellent idea! But the Admin disagreed, saying "I don't think these things shouldn't be added to the default .SyncIgnore file as they are very specific use cases!!" I ahve to say I *completely* disagree. In my case, and in the case of many media creators, syncing an entire drive is paramount. For example, media libraries, client drives, video capture drives etc. I'm not sure if that Admin had a limited understanding of Windows, but it seems to me that calling a root drive sync a "specific use case" is a bit strange! Anyhow, at this point it appears that BTsync will *not* sync properly using the root of a drive. Is there anyone else who would agree? Is this a good feature request? Do you think it reasonable to want to use BTsync in this manner? If so, is there a fix in the works? keep up the AWESOME work, BTsync!
