  1. I've decided to learn FreeBSD and take it from there. Thank you all for your help so far.
  2. My wish list item here would be that all configurable items, including advanced would be available via the GUI. Other than that its working fine for me. I am still trying to get the rescan working at 20 secs though, no joy so far. Automatic rescan would be cool too.
  3. Any chance you, or anyone else can post your config? I did it and it executes fine, but my testing suggests its still 10 minutes. This is the line in my config file: “folder_rescan_interval”: 20,
  4. Sorry for nagging, my last attempt. I cannot get past step 11 for Seagate GoFlex. I keep getting ""service btsync does not support chkconfig" when trying to do the "/sbin/chkconfig --add btsync" step. I have farted around with this, and always get same response. I'm looking at building my own NAS, but for now I'd really like to get power up BT sync running. Is there something else I should specifically be checking to verify mistakes else where? Thanks again, PacketMan
  5. And I like it this way, since a machine can get stolen.
  6. My wife's cell phone is Android and I have tested the heck out of it. I have never observed her phone becoming even a little slugglish.
  7. So I just discovered that I don't see btsync.conf in /administrator/btsync_arm/. Could that be the cause of my problem? Am I supposed to create this manually or should the program itself have created it. Sorry for nagging, but I spent a couple hours trying to fix this on my own. My basic Unix/Linux skills are 20 years rusty old.
  8. Please don't flame me for digging up an old topic. I just took an old XP machine, blew it away and installed FreeBSD 10.0, but no GUI yet. Got btsync installed and all seems fine Wow, I haven't done this for like almost 20 years now. Thanks BT Sync team for motivating me with something really cool. I am curious is this 10 minute syncing behavior still the only behavior, or has changes been made and I can now somehow set btsync to use some form of instant notify. I'm just curious, as I might want to build a generic hardware NAS and stick some flavour of Linux or UNIX on it. I like FreeBSD because I work with Juniper routers/switches which are based on FreeBSD. But maybe I might want consider a Linux machine, and behaviors like this 10 minute folder re-scan would help me decide. Is there a way to manually configure say a 60 second folder scan? Thanks again all, Packet Man
  9. Nope afraid not. This is exactly how my script looks at the moment: bash-3.2# pwd /etc/init.d bash-3.2# more btsync #! /bin/sh # /etc/init.d/btsync # chkconfig: 2345 80 05 # Carry out specific functions when asked to by the system case "$1" in start) /administrator/btsync_arm/btsync --config /administrator/btsync_arm/btsync.conf ;; stop) killall btsync ;; *) echo "Usage: /etc/init.d/btsync {start|stop}" exit 1 ;; esac exit 0 bash-3.2#
  10. All done except step 11. When I try I get this message: "service btsync does not support chkconfig"
  11. I got it running on my Go Flex easy peesy. Can someone tell me how to set it up so that it autostarts when the device power/boots up ?
  12. I'm considering buying a Synology Disk Station DS412+. The post above is a year old. Are old libc's still an issue or has this been resolved? Or let me ask this question, if I buy a DS412+ do I just installed BT Sync and its easy peesy, or do I have to hack the box and fool around with stuff to make it work. Sorry I am a internetworking guy, not a server/os guy. I just want to buy something that I can put BT Sync on, maybe regular BT, and I need a few other features like FTP, SMB, ans DLNA. Thanks again. 13. A very good discussion indeed. Would this work on A Windows Server machine, specfically a HP MediaSmart Server running the Windows Home Server OS. Nice little machine, but no video card. Would love to re-image this with something else. MIght give the NAS4FREE a try on some new hardware.
  14. Hi all, hope this is not an 'out of scope' topic for this forumn. i've got a Cisco Linksys NAS (actually called a Network Storage System) from a few years ago and it blows. It works I suppose but its really really slow, and limited. I am thinking I might like to buy something new and 'amazing' so to speak. I know some of the new NASs support the installation (or come pre-installed) with a uTorrent client I have read, but I don't trust marketing material. So, on that note, can some of you tell me about the NAS you are using and why you love it with Bittorrent products? My NAS feature list would be: Gigabit NIC, and actually allow close to wire rate speed.Fully compatiable with latest DLNA, and streams popular media file formats.Media transcoder would be sweet.Great built in FTP server. RCP (Secure FTP) would be a bonus.UPnP.Windows SMB (all versions?)Full file management support (copy, move, delete) viaweb access through http.HTTPS would be ideal.Great backup utility software included.2 to 4 drive baysAllow various modes of RAID, including combining them all into one logical drive.Maybe some scheduling/automation tools.Other tools like drive checking, DDNS, power save, NTP, email alerting.Various user accounts / access controlMaybe management software, and cute little Systray icon that can be installed on other PC. And of course, last but not least, come with an OS that allows me to install BT/uTorrent, and BT Sync would be awesome. Thanks again all, Packet Man
  15. I have an iPOD with iOS version 6.1.6, that syncs with two other machines: a Windows 8.1 machine, and an Android device. All is working fine except that when I delete a file via the iPod, it gets deleted locally, but not on the others. If I wait log enough the files reappear back on the iPOD. If I delete from Win 8.1 or Android, all three devices in the 'sync swarm' will update correctly. If I add file via iPod it works correctly. Only delete on iPOD not working. I was convinced I had incorrectly used "Read Only" setting but after multiple attempts via QR code scan, I know I have it set to Full Access. I read the other forum posts about iOS OS issue, and 10 minute scan delay, but I could not fund anything specific to this. Hopfully I am not creating a duplicate topic here. If so feel free to pm me and delete this topic. Other than that I love Sync! Awesome! Wish you had done it sooner. An amazing first kick at the can if you ask me.
  16. I am using Sync to replicate home security camera system pictures to my various devices including hand-held devices. The system dumps pictures to my NAS which is SMB based. In my PC I that that SMB share and point Sync at it. When the system dumps some pictures to the share, Sync will replicate them to my hand held devices. In the event my alarm company calls, the intent (hope) is that the pictures of the bad guys are already on the device. If this works well, then I just might turn off email based notification. This is not working as well as I hope, only because the security camera system is a cheapo, and it hard to tune the alarming thresholds. I turned the sync folder scan from 600 to 60 seconds, but today for example, my family came home, causing the system to spit out over 2000 pictures in a couple hours. Sync on my PC didn't crash, but it sure had the CPU pinned until I cleaned out the folder. I think if I can buy a top quality security DVR sytem, and 'tune' it the way I want, Sync will be real sweet here. Also, I have anothe Sync folder on my handhelds, my wifes, and kids. We each snap up sponteansous moments and poof they appear on everyone elses devices, plus back at home base PC for easy tranferring to a main NAS, and also to backup. Sweet!
