  1. @BrianR459 Excellent - we have the same error and it is repeatable. If you are able to collect logs and email them into the team with ref 16369 they can look at the problem from two different angles and hopefully find a fix faster. support@SyncApp.zendesk.com
  2. @BrianR549 Do you REALLY have to close BYSync and reopen? or do you mean that you close the UI and open the UI again. I have exactly the same behaviour but do not need to close the program to remove the erroneous locked folder message.
  3. @ RomanZ Sorry for my late reply - yes, this is correct, it looks to now be a UI issue only (for me)
  4. Hi GM, I am afraid I am still getting the locked files report having upgraded to 1.4.103, although I have yet to suffer a failure to save a file. So it appears it is partially fixed but not fully.
  5. Hi All, I upgraded yesterday to 1.4.103 and now I am still getting the locked files issue on main PC. in fact it it currently reporting minus one locked file! There are no files locked at present and all files HAVE been synced to the second machine, so once again it is a UI reporting issue, NOT a sync engine failure. I repeat my request from earlier posts to name the 'Locked files' in order that we can find them and work out why they are being reported as locked. Would you like logs RomanZ/GM ? as I think you think this is solved. 2 computers syncing two folders each ~130+Gb one win7 one win8.1 plus one small folder being (correctly) synced across the world to another win7 PC. This is amazing software guys, so keep up the good work!
  6. not confusing at all Sam. what is confusing is why. Is your problem repeatable? I have only had this happen to me once, and it was spooky that it happened whilst I was reading the thread - hence my initial reply. I am going to try to repeat this at the weekend when I have a little more time to play. If you are able to repeat the issue then do please send in your logs for the guys to look at - I wil do the same over the weekend sometime.
  7. OK RomanZ - my logs are on all the time these days - is it right that the current log is limited to 10Mb ? I have seen larger files in the past, but with the new 1.4 software it seems to never grow any larger? I cannot see why Avast would be looking at these files let alone opening them on computer start up?
  8. @RomanZ - again, sorry, no autorun apps that would be writing data - I only have Avast, bittorrent sync, teamviewer and a samsung services app running on autostart, so nothing at all even looking at this folder set (which is my repository for data only) when starting up the computer. I will have a go at repeating the scenario, but it will have to be in a couple of days time. Brilliantsam seems to have suffered from exactly the same issue - perhaps she/he could add something to this ?? I only added my bit as I saw someone else had this trouble!
  9. Hi again RomanZ - no, absolutely nothing special, just full of files. No apps/programs were running when I did the initial delete or the second one. The ONLY thing for me to note was that the PC #2 was off when the delete happened the first time. Perhaps (and ONLY perhaps) the sync app had not completed logging the entire set of files when I turned on the second PC ? maybe it got confused ? I guess I could try repeating the process by copying the same folder set (or a completely different random set) with both machines on, then turn off PC#2 and delete from PC #1 and turn on PC#2 again - but then YOU can do this in your lab can't you?
  10. No RomanZ your understanding is not correct. In fact the sub folder B deletion was done with BTSync turned ON. Please see attached doc which attempts to explain in more detail, but really it is simple. I deleted a folder within a synced folder with sync ON on one PC, but with the other PC turned off. When the second PC came on it automatically started syncing the sub folder B BACK to the folder A on PC #1 With BOTH machines turned on and BTSYNC running the second attempt at deletion worked and propagated itself across to the peer properly.Presentation1.pdf What I also find disturbing is that the addition OR deletion of folders does not appear to be recorded in the history - it only appears to record the addition and deletion of files. OK got it - so your first understanding is wrong - top left Master peer is ON at this point and remains ON all the time. Peer is OFF at this point. Check the pdf and you should get it I hope! I would have sent another file with the timeline corrected, but the forum won't let me post more than 500mb total - daft!
  11. Sorry for my late response RomanZ have not been monitoring this thread - let me come back to you as I am not sure what your diagram means on first glance! Is this two scenarios in tandem, or does it flow from left side top to bottom then across to the right side and top to bottom. In fact what happened is pretty simple, so I will come back very soon!
  12. GM, I was just trying to make it clear to other readers that the issue of not being able to see the dots has not yet been resolved. your answer to recojohnson is misleading (in my opinion) when reading the whole thread which IS about being able to see those dots, NOT about resizing columns which I agree has been resolved.
  13. It has not been fully resolved GM. One still has to widen the whole window in order to see the two floating items on the right hand end of each folder line. This feature is still present in 1.4.93 and needs to be changed so we can see the share and settings menu at all times for each line.
  14. @RomanZ - this JUST happened to me. I deleted a folder from 'master' when peer was turned off. Turning on peer and the folder reappeared on the master - BUT not the full folder (which was a 6Gb mistakenly copied folder) but only one sub folder and a couple of files. On deleting AGAIN from the master it has now stopped coming back. This is a simple sync setup with only two computers running 1.4.93 win7 64 bit on the 'master' win8.1 on the Peer. very strange and also very random.
  15. It seems that this only occurs when closing a previously saved file (my observations for what it is worth) On opening a file, looking at various things then closing it again without change I will sometimes get a locked file reported. If I edit the file then save then close I get the same problem. However, if I edit a file, and close using the red cross in top right hand corner THEN use the option to save and close the file is NEVER reported as locked, so I have now got into the habit (BAD habit that I want to stop as soon as possible) of using this method to exit and save. NOT good practice at all, but the only way I can see right now to avoid the reporting of locked files. This may help the developers find the problem - which of course was not there previously, but I am not sure which version it crept in on as I shifted from 1.4.82 to 93 pretty quickly.
  16. When does a locked file become unlocked and synced? I am now continuously, but sporadically getting 'locked file' reported on the status column of the GUI - sometimes one, sometimes more. These files remain locked until I close BTSync and reopen. They are NOT unlocking within a scan cycle, or when open files are closed. This is clearly a bug and needs rectifying as files will not be synced unless the program is turned off and on again to force an index which is not really acceptable. I have also asked previously to have the locked files listed somewhere so we can make sure they are NOT open files. It is ALSO interesting to see that not ALL open files get locked, so I am curious to know how the software decides to 'lock' or at least report a file as locked. I can open many spreadsheets/documents/files and NOT get locked files reported, so I do not know when this notification appears or indeed why for any particular file. Could this be part of the 'unable to save in Windows' issue with Office files? Win 7 Ultimate, Office 365(2013) BTSync 1.4.93 Also, just an aside - why is this not in the new notifications button on the GUI but half obscured in the status column? Surely this is should be a notification - but I guess it is also a status!
  17. Hi All, Just thought I would report in the issue. I just added two folders to a shared folder and went to the peer to check they were there. All OK so far. Moved one file into one of the shared folders and all OK again. Checked history on both computers only to discover the propagation of folders to the peer from the master is not reported, neither on the master or the peer. Odd that file moving is reported, but not addition of new folders. A bug perhaps, or is this intentional? Win7 master win 8.1 peer, both running 1.4.93 (I know they are BOTH peers in a mesh, but I like to think of one as the master and one as the slave even though they are both RW!)
  18. Thanks GM - I still do not understand why the developers have decided to restrict the minimum size of the window - it seems there are MANY people out there like me who would want to shrink the window down but leave it on the desktop - your restrictions are stopping us do that. It is OUR screen after all, not the developers and we all have our own ways of doing things - this decision is restricting that unnecessarily in my opinion. Thanks for acknowledging my point about the menu on the right hand side - I look forward to seeing an 'improvement' here in future releases. I understand the 'mouse over' but do not understand why when clicking with the left button of the mouse that the line highlighted with the 'mouse over' does not remain highlighted in the same way it does when touching on a touch screen - it is this difference in behavior with mouse click that I was reporting, not the 'mouse over' sorry if I was not clear the first time. I (for one) would like to highlight a line with a click and leave it highlighted as other programs do, but I respect the fact that this is not like other programs and does not work in the same way - a shame really, as the whole point of Windows way back when it was introduced was to enable the millions (if not billions) of computer users to interact with their computers in pretty much the same intuitive way regardless of the program (sorry, app ) I do not believe this software is intuitive at all, and given the number of questions on the forums it looks like there a re quite a few others who agree. In fact I would go so far as to say the new GUI actually makes it more complicated than it was (but again that is only my opinion) Lets hope the abundant feedback you are getting is digested by the developers - as I have said before, this program appears to solve a lot of issues for people needing/wanting sync services without the cloud. If it were more user friendly I suspect there would be millions more using it. Do keep up the good work!
  19. +1, but it was only crashing on my win8.1 machine, not the Win7 one. I don't think it has anything to do with file size - I only have two folders each about 150Gb - Instant crash, but with the option to send in a log, which I did ....several times! Uninstall and reinstall fixed it for me and I am now running 1.4.93
  20. Excellent, another one of the issues I was going to report - I need to trawl the forum a bit more I think. +1 - I have been having this same issue - with .83, .91 and .93 I thought it was an issue with a double synced folder as it seemed to be only the excel spreadsheets I am sharing with a customer in Spain using Synology (his choice) but now it seems the culprit is BTSync! I look forward to seeing the release notes show this one is fixed as I suspect it is also the root cause of files being overwritten by old files from the other peer. Win7 machine running Office 365 (2013) And it is not repeatable, it is random, but you found it anyway which is good!
  21. +1 - I had the same problem yesterday when upgrading to .93 - had five files that were not syncing, so renamed them and all of a sudden the lost peer was found and all synced - bizarre behaviour for sure!
  22. @daishi4u At last someone else is reporting the problems I have been having. Again look in the 'sync not completing threads - this is NOT only on 1.4.93, it has been prevalent for a while. I sent in logs a while back to no avail, but I have removed the problem by removing the third of my peers, but it seems you only have 2? With .93 running on two peers all seems OK for me - see edit on my previous post about fixing the 'out of sync, no peers available' issue I had. @RomanZ - could you please explain what the 'fixed minimum window dimensions' statement actually means? I am still unable to make the window small (I only have two lines of folders and so have an awfully big amount of real estate under these that I would like to squash down) and the share and three dots menu still get obscured when sliding the right hand side of the window to the left. In fact why are these two features hidden until one hovers over the line ? Surely having the menu bar not hidden would be better? I don't see the three dots (copied from android I suspect) hidden on any other app/program I have used? Another interesting aspect of this is that when touching the folder line with my finger it is highlighted and stays highlighted, yet when clicking the highlighted line with my mouse nothing changes - so using a mouse does not keep the highlighted line highlighted, so the menu and share disappear as soon as the pointer leaves the line. Surely a touch to the screen and a click with the mouse should do the same thing? This is on a Win8.1 Touch screen machine.
  23. OK, I just upgraded both my peers and now one is saying out of sync with the other, but the other is saying synced? The first one says no peers online to receive 202.28Kb, yet it can see the other peer? It seems for every step forward we are getting two step back with this software. I have changed nothing on any setting foe either computer, just closed the program and installed the update? Once again though, it is the GUI reporting incorrectly, as the last files added and edited on the 'Master peer' have propagated them across to the other peer, I just checked. So WHY can the GUI not get its reporting of events correct??? Trust is lost with this and it is not possible to rely on this software for either backup or syncing. @sfmcnally - I had this exact same behaviour in the past - take a look in the sync not completing thread. I did not find the cause or a solution apart from removing a third peer from my mesh. @all - update on reported issue - the 202kb of files reported as requiring sync to a peer that was unavailable were only five random files - three .pdf and two .STEP 3D files, so I simply renamed them on the main PC (they were already correctly copied to the peer) by adding a minus sign into the names and as if by magic they disappeared from the queue and were renamed on the peer correctly - resulting in a full sync again. Why is this happening?? Why pick random files and declare them unsyncable when they have clearly already been synced? Why can they be synced with a simply name change? No GM & RomanZ I changed NOTHING else, just upgraded the software. It was the software that got it wrong, NOT me doing anything. And sorry, logs won't help with this as I have fixed it now. The maintenance required to ensure a full sync has been done and no files are being backwardly propogated from an old copy is quite high - and I only have two folders on two machines that only I am changing - lord only knows how system administrators can handle all these errors being created by the software!
