  1. @chungyan05 It did seem odd to me, files with Chinese names were no problem, but when I went to edit a FOLDER in WIn 7 the folder rename was not propagated across all peers - and then I discovered that if I added English to the beginning of the folder name they all began to change on the other peers. The problem has gone away now as I have removed the third peer on my sync - the two remaining computers seem OK at the moment.
  2. @ Romanz - will do. It is difficult for me to get onto the support site sometimes which is why I have been adding comments to the forum. But should anything really bad happen I will for sure email in. It also appears that the support team actively read the forum, so they ar epicking up lots already! Keep up the good work!
  3. Hey RomanZ, I just thought I would report in as I have now removed one peer from my three way sync and all is now working (almost) perfectly with the other two computers. I suspect that the three way is one step too far right now and so I have consigned my older Laptop to movie duties and will continue backing up to a separate USB drive for now, There are a couple of issues I have reported in different threads as I am sure you have seen Thanks for all your patient help so far!
  4. Thanks GM, I had forgotten the per folder settings as they had disappeared off the left hand side of my window - something that is discussed in a different thread
  5. Preferences/advanced/more options - 7th line down is 'folder_default.use_lan_ broadcast' with options true or false - in between the line for use DHT and use relay Which switch for LAN are YOU referring to GM ? as I cannot find any other way in 1.4.83 to turn on or off the 'use LAN' feature ? I have managed to get a screen dump less than 500Kb so you can see for yourself - scratch that - it won't let me upload a simple word file and the pdf is 503Kb aarrgghh
  6. @rangererv08 I don't think this will work. I have been trying to get a three way sync similar to this and as soon as you add the third peer (your office folder in this case) ALL peers try to sync together, I don't think it is possible to have the two PC's ONLY syncing with the Android - unless you have two different sync's set up on the same android folder; one for each PC? @ Great Marko, So are you saying switching the preference 'use lan broadast' in advanced settings (1.4.83) to false will INCREASE LAN trasnsfer speeds? This seems counterintuitive to me as it appears that ALL methods of communication are now turned off? - , sorry, this should have been attached to your previous post,
  7. In fact the same applies to Win7, 8.1 64 bit - I had not reported this before, but will now that you have. Better to keep these available when shrinking the window! And as soon as they tell us what improvements have been made I will go for .91 :-)
  8. Hey All - I am happy to report that I am now enjoying a full sync between all three of my peers. However, I have found a few interesting things going on now I have 1.4.83 on all three machines : 1: I have a locked file being reported but there are no files open and the gui does not tell me what the file is? - Is there a way of finding this file? 2: I renamed a couple of folders and now the sync is going through ALL the files within the folder?? is this REALLY necessary for a simple folder rename? - it is taking a LONG time to work through all the files over the internet to the remote laptop. 3: being able to resize the columns makes a MASSIVE difference to working with this new version - it takes some getting used to, but it seems to have all the info there that was in 1.3.109, just in different places - so patience is needed when looking for things 4: I note that it is no longer possible to reopen the gui from the notifications icon - one has to go to the icon on the taskbar (win 7, 8.1) to reopen if it has been hidden behind other windows. 5: The reason for renaming folders was that I discovered that added/edited files within folders with Chinese names were not being synced. On changing the folder name to have Roman characters (English) first the files within got synced - very odd, and perhaps not a problem for many people who don't have Chinese on their computers 6: I have three computers attempting to sync yet the gui reports all is OK when ONE pair only is synced - the green tick in the circle should NOT be present when one computer has not completed its sync - it should ONLY show when BOTH are complete. When checking peers yes, you see one is not finished yet, but one does not always check peers - this is giving the false impression that all is OK when it is not. 7: Notifications that ALL has completed syncing come up when ONE computer has finished - I suspect this is a typing error in the software somewhere saying all is complete when actually only ONE has completed. That's it for now, it is amazing what one finds when one is not looking all the time for why the sync is not yet complete! Keep up the good work all of you, it is getting better all the time.
  9. Thanks Great marko, too late for me, but at least others may see it - why are the manual download link ones not the same one has to ask? Good news on my never syncing problem - I have now moved to .83 on all three of my peers. Doing this and adding desktop.ini and ~* and Desktop.ini (note the capital letter) to the ignore files in all three machines has done the trick and I am now able to obtain a full three way sync. I do have some other interesting things going on now that I will report in a different post. Thanks to all the team for their patience with my issues! I will email in to the team to tell them all is working as well.
  10. Hey All, Just a suggestion, but would it not be useful to have the revision number in the filename of the .exe ? I just downloaded the 'latest version' went to my downloads and could not work out which btsync.exe was which without checking the date downloaded first. I am definitely missing something here, this screen shot shows in the 3dot menu the option to copy keys - I have just installed 1.4.83 and this is NOT on my menu ?? running win764 bit OK - so I have found them buried in the preferences menu - if Microsoft moved all their buttons in the same way they seem to be jumping about in this program all hell would break out in the corporate world!
  11. Using your families computers is definitely the way to go. I am in China and my father is in the UK. he has a backup of all my photos by BTSync so he gets the benefit of seeing the family grow and I have an off line, out of the country safe backup whenever I need it. Bandwidth is not really a problem as it is a backup - his computer is on in the day and mine is on all the time, but by using dropbox as MY central point for photos (I have 50Gb free somehow) we get to share automatically all my photos taken from different phones tablets and camera. It doesn't really matter how long it takes to transfer the photos, but it is pretty quick - and we both have unmetered connections so no additional transfer costs. I am pretty sure this would work for a lot of people at pretty much zero cost.
  12. Thank you RomanZ - FINALLY an admission that something is actually wrong and you (the 'team') are trying to fix it! Sometimes this is all that is needed to keep your 'customers' happy. I will continue to persevere and attempt to find the error with this. In fact I may well invest the time needed to upgrade my two working computers to 1.4.latest as it now seems some of the GUI errors (like sizing columns) has been fixed! I will come back when this is done to let you know if all is OK or not.
  13. My point exactly - I suspect it is a bug - as demonstrated by the next post! I Am not suffering from errant .!sync files right now, just two computers reporting in the GUI that they have not fully synced when they clearly have. If I was able to find what was stopping the sync from completing I would not be looking at all these different threads trying to work it out. The fact that there are so many threads with similar symptoms - albeit being reported in different ways - tells me it is a real issue and not a figment of my imagination. IF sync is fully automatic why can it not automatically tell me what is not syncing? giving me a list of ALL the files in the folder as waiting to sync is not good at all. I will keep my eye out to see if this problem (and a solution) is found one day!
  14. # .SyncIgnore is a UTF-8 encoded .txt file that helps you specify single files, paths and rules # for ignoring during the synchronization job. It supports "?" and "*" wildcard symbols.### OS generated files #.DS_Store.DS_Store?._*.Spotlight-V100.Trashesehthumbs.dbdesktop.iniThumbs.db Here you are, a new folder with its errant ignore file. Clearly something is not correct on this version (1.3.109) as it is not creating the ignore file as you have said it should be. Adding the line with the squiggle has not fixed the issue on the other main folders, and I am not currently inclined to re-add the folder AGAIN as I do not have the time to wait for another rescan right now. and anyway, simply removing and adding the folder again will not fix anything - unless I add and IMMEDIATELY correct the ignore file manually? but I would need to do this on all 3 computers simultaneously to make any difference at all. Hopefully now others are reporting similar issues this will be looked at in more detail by someone up the line! If there is anything else I can help with on the investigation do let me know.
  15. I have done nothing to the files, but yes, I was forced to do a fresh install on two computers from 1.4 back to 1.3.109. these two computers have identical files with the missing squiggle. Could I copy paste your text above into my file and save in notebook?
  16. the age of the thread does not make it irrelevant, and yes, I am. I have been experiencing VERY strange behavior for quite a while. I have been trawling the forum looking for similar problems and read this with interest. I note you did not answer the question relating to the failure of BT sync to complete a sync when disconnected and leaving files lying around. Has this been resolved? if so why does it not say so rather than having the thread just stop? My actual 'fault' for want of a better word is covered in other threads - it relates to the software being unable to complete a sync from one PC to two others whilst the two others are complete between themselves. It is ongoing, so I wil continue to trawl for an answer. Cheers, Colin.
  17. Surely BTSync should be able to handle disconnection and re-connection without the user manually deleting files? If a file is partially transferred and connection is lost then should BTSync not resume from where it stopped on re-connection?
  18. Interesting RomanZ - I have NO ~ symbol in my syncignore files and, so being there by default is not happening for me! perhaps this is the root of all my incomplete syncs? If I add this line to my ignore file using notepad should I save as a unicode 8 type file, or just save over the existing file? and what do I add ? ~* ? .~ please help me with this as I am unsure of the actual text to write into the ignore file. There is a line # os generated files # but I am guessing this is not actually doing anything because of the hash symbols? here it is for you - they are all the same as I have not done anything to these files on any of my machines. # .SyncIgnore is a UTF-8 encoded .txt file that helps you specify single files, paths and rules # for ignoring during the synchronization job. It supports "?" and "*" wildcard symbols.### OS generated files #.DS_Store.DS_Store?._*.Spotlight-V100.Trashesehthumbs.dbdesktop.iniThumbs.db However, this still does not explain the up arrow full file set waiting to sync on all the windows machines?
  19. OK - some research on the net tells me these are actually windows files - but why are they on the android device when these files have not been opened ? this is all very strange and unexplainablle - so much so I am unable to use the software to sync to my android devices
  20. Hi All, I have now attempted to add a sync folder for my android device. The folders have reportedly synced OK on my android, but they are showing as incomplete on the desktop, one with 19 files yet to sync and the other with 8 files left. ALL these files are in the BTSync status screen with suspicious ~$ signs at the beginning of the file name. Now, one of 'the team' reported to me that BTSync 'does not create files' So my question is - WHAT ARE these files and where did they come from ?? I am unable to find then with windows search, and when I hit sync on the android device is tells me there are files left to sync, but the android does nothing. On checking the first file on the list it is present and correct on the android?
  21. yes it does ....it says all 62826 files are in the queue to be transferred. in 1.3.109 double clicking the line also tells me all files are in the sync queue. the problem is still there regardless of the software revision.
  22. Thanks RomanZ. Changes to the files in question are not happening that quickly, and I am not getting incorrect overwriting - so it is not this causing the problem, and as you say, CIFS, (whatever that is) is probably OK as I am scanning every three min's on the main PC - (perhaps this is the problem??) It was interesting to see that there were no errors (I am calling the incorrect reporting on the UI of the entire 134Gb folder with up arrow as an error) when I reinstalled the software on the main PC - UNTIL I opened, changed and closed a file FROM PC3 PC's 4 & 5 remain fully synced as before, and it is ONLY sync to the NAS (I get your meaning) PC that is being REPORTED ON THE UI as not complete. In fact sync IS complete - all files changed have propagated themselves across all three synced computers. I am unable to find any errant .!sync or .sync files on any of the computers. In the past with 1.3.109 I have been able to find incompletely synced files from the transfers tab (as continuously transferring) but now because the software is reporting the entire folder set with the up arrow there are no individual files to find. Interestingly (perhaps) the up arrow is present on ALL THREE computers - NAS, PC4 and PC5 - it's not possible to be waiting to upload the entire files set FROM all three computers !!?? This is a very strange 'error' indeed. It may well be that the non syncing and up arrow are correct, but where can we find the cause?? I have sent in logs before of this phenomenon but it has not gone away. Would you like logs again? Just another thought.........If PC3 opens a file makes a change, saves it and then NAS PC opens that same file makes a change and saves it WITHIN the 3 minute BTSync folder scan would BTSync get its knickers in a twist as it has only seen one change yet CIFS is reporting two?? Could this rapid changing, yet saving of a file in question be causing the issue here? Or could it be that the file is opened by more than one computer at the same time? PC3 may open the file for editing, but NAS PC may have it open for viewing at the same time. If the edited file is saved first, followed by the read only file would this cause a problem, or vice-versa?. RomanZ - I am only trying to find the reason here, if this is the cause then I can put rules in place to avoid the issue happening again. It is of course possible to open a file several times on one PC, but I suspect this is unusual? Unfortunately, once the error has occurred nothing short of an uninstall and reinstall of the software will fix it - I have done this WITHOUT deleting ANY files and all becomes OK until PC2 or PC3 gets working. Sorry for my rambling post, I am trying to think of reasons for this happening - and I am thinking out loud which is not always recommended!
  23. Hi Romanz - thanks for taking the trouble to do this diagram. This is basically correct, but I do not have any specific NAS control going on, it is a simple windows shared folder on the Windows computer. Could this be the reason why I am getting this trouble? SHOULD I be running specific NAS hard/software in order to achieve what I am trying to do? I did not want to go down that route just yet as what I have is running for free and using the drives I already have in my computer. Rgds, Colin
  24. Hi All, I have a question/information that could possibly be the answer to my particular issues with this (alleged) inability to completely sync across my three computers. I say alleged as I think the files ARE actually syncing, but the app is reporting as not. So, my main PC is the one I do most of my editing on, BUT, it also allows three other computers to edit the data (letters, spreadsheets etc, etc) These other three computers access the data locally via a windows network on the shared drive of my main PC. MY other two computers use BTSync to sync the files, they do not access them locally via the network. Could it be that this configuration where some computers outside of the realm of BTsync are actually confusing BTsync ?? I guess I am using my main PC as a NAS, but unofficially - it is simply sharing folders across a local network, and syncing those same folders across the BTSync setup. I recently went back to 1.3.109 on the main PC and for two days all was OK. Those 2 days had only the main PC switched on, so none of the local computers able to access the folders were switched on. As soon as one did switch on and edit one spreadsheet I lost sync between the two laptops and the main PC, but did not lose the sync between the two laptops - so SOMETHING fishy is going on with the main PC - could it be that the local access via the shared folder has confused BTSync into thinking something is still being changed when it is not? Sorry for what looks like a confusing rant, I hope someone in 'the team' at BT sync understands what I am saying!
  25. Well, after a long weekend knowing someone left a spreadsheet open on their computer as it was reporting not synced, I shut down the offending computer and I am back to square one with two laptops unable to report correctly their sync with the main desktop. Perhaps in my instance it has something to do with the fact that several computers have access to the data on the main computer and they are being edited on the remote computers, but being saved over the network back onto the one main computer. This seems to screw up BTsyncs ability to sync. For three days whilst the other computers were off all was fine, but as soon as a file is accessed from a different computer it seems all is lost. ALL files are synced - this is what gets me?? If they are all synced then why is BTSync reporting 134.8Gb with up arrow on BOTH computers?? The software has its knickers in a twist and nobody at base believes me!! I have sent in logs of this error, I have sent in screen shots of this error, but all I get back is someone telling me it is MY fault - I have done nothing I would not normally do with these three computers apart from use them. I know for sure that if I delete the software off the main PC and install it again that all will be OK for a couple of days/hours and then I will be back to both computers reporting they are uploading the entire file set. VERY Frustrating indeed!
