  1. But if I'll configure "shared_folders" in config file, then WebUI will be disabled.

/* !!! if you set shared folders in config file WebUI will be DISABLED !!! shared directories specified in config file override the folders previously added from WebUI. */

What sholud I notice in sample-config?

"overwrite_changes" key is for RO nodes and I need it in RW

  2. Some shares are in "Out of sync" state and I found these errors in log:

Is it network issue or BTSync issue?

  3. @b0rman

If I understand correctly, you need to setup a share from scratch on a ramdrive when your computer boots up - and get all the files there. This can be done with config file - you can pre-define folder with folder key in config mode - and Sync will get data there. As every time it will be setup on your ramdrive as a brand new share, Sync will not delete files, but will get them from other peers.

    OK, how about webUI?

I can just save .sync directory from tmpfs and copy it there after any reboot than set "Last modify" to 1970 year and start btsync. Will it solve my problem?

What sholud I notice in sample-config?

"overwrite_changes" key is for RO nodes and I need it in RW

  4. Yep, its possible. If you've got a Linux machine, try command "./btsync --dump-sample-config" - sample config file is pretty much self-explainable.

Didn't find how sample config can help me not to loose files on another servers :)

Keep in mind that directory should be at RW mode at normal state.

  5. @b0rman

Sync has its own files DB - and that wouldn't be enough. But, IIUC you need to get files to ramdrive every time you reboot PC. You can start sync with the config file with pre-configured key and folder, pointing to your ramdrive. Does it works for you?

I need to get files to ramdrive from another servers with pre-configured key on startup. Is it possible?

  6. Hi!

I'm using BTSync to sync files across three linux servers.

Let's say we have 1 folder to sync. The problem is that folder is in tmpfs file system (it's in RAM) and every time when any of servers reboot initial script creates folder again and copy .sync folder there to tell BTSync that it can be synced. Of course it causes to erase all files from same folders on other servers.

Is it possible to set this newly created empty directory to RO mode or set it's creation time to last year, for example with touch command, to get files from other servers instead of delete them there?

  7. @b0rman

Unfortunately this cannot be changed, it's not simply limited by some variable but this is more core limitation. We are aware of it and plan to improve in future.

Although, if you got average file size ~25Kb you should get your speed around 1.2 Mb/Sec, so the 50..150 Kb/sec is way too slow! Could you please send me some debug logs of your regular sync of these small files?

    Debug logs:

What kind of files do you transfer? Sync has a certain limitation on amount of files it processes per second, so if you've got a bunch of tiny files - they can affect transfer speed significantly (though should not introduce saw-shaped traffic).

Yes, I have 9GB of JPEGs less than 25KB each.

Any ideas how to improve my situation?

May I change this limitation since my PCs have lots of free resources and I'd like to use it to increase sync speed?

Is it possible to add this variable to config file? :)

  9. Syncthing - seems usable.

The directory/file watching is still subpar and I prefer the btsync way of connecting to a shared folder - but it seems to be getting there.

    Syncthing doesnt seems usable, because:

    Major for me

You can't split RO and RW share there

You can't set share as RO, because You always need to click "Overwrite" button on Master

    Minor for me

You can't share files in LAN without encoding

    and so on...

  10. @cubik

First thing to try is to increase send / recv buffers and set "low_disk_priority" to "false". If it does not help - let me know, I'll instruct you to collect profiling data to find out where is the bottleneck.

May I receive instruction about profiling my BTSync config? I'm using SSD disks, 4 core CPUs (i5 2500), 32GB DDR3, 1Gbps LAN. Buffers set to 24. How can I increase my speed? Now it's like 1-2MBs for small files (JPGs) between CentOS 6.5 and Windows 2008R2.

  11. Sent my logs with "Out of sync" to Your eMail.

I found that it was lots of "Out of sync" (even on LAN) when 1 external and internal servers were connected over 1Mbps (slow) VPN (Slave got Master's local IP from my another server in LAN). When I blocked BTSync ports over OpenVPN it fixed almost all, except one RW share - take a look, please.

  12. Hi!

I have couple of PCs with BTSync in my LAN ("LAN-PCs") and one PC outside my LAN ("EXT-PC").

I have 2 external IPs from different ISP (12Mbps + 50Mbps), BTSync ports for "LAN-PCs" mapped on firewall.

EXT-PC connected to my LAN via OpenVPN connection (it's set to 1Mbps by QoS).

I found that even when I set peers manually on EXT-PC as my external IPs it always choose LAN IPs that got from LAN peers. There is an information in LOG-file that 192.168.0.x chosen as best liks for p2p connection.

Why? OpenVPN link is not the fastest and isn't the best for connection!
