  1. I'm new to Sync. I downloaded the Windows client and the Android app but haven't used them yet because I want to make sure it will suit my needs.

    For example:

If I have a folder "Documents" that I want synced on my desktop, laptop, and tablet but not my phone, can Sync exclude a device from syncing certain folders?

If I want all the pictures from my phone to sync to my desktop (for backup purposes) and then I delete some pictures from my phone (to free up space), will the pictures disappear from my PC? and if they don't will the pictures just reappear on my phone again when it syncs? In other words, does it always sync both ways?

I read some other posts that explain syncing happens in real time and Sync will scan folders every 10 minutes. Does the Android app work the same way? Is there an option to disable syncing while on mobile data and only sync on WiFi?

Really looking forward to trying out the app on my devices, just wanted to clarify a few things first - my apologies for the newbie questions.

Also, on mobile, by default, files are not being saved locally until you choose specific files.

  2. I much preferred the old way of sharing a folder. It was so refreshingly obvious that no third parties needed to be involved. Not anymore.

It's no longer even possible to just add a folder by simply pasting a key. I *HAVE* to use a link in 1.4. Exchanging one-time keys was one of the best parts of it, and now you've gone and ripped it out completely.

It's especially annoying that by default, my one-time secrets end up being sent to your servers. The very same one-time secrets that would enable you to access my files. Now, I already have to trust you not to be evil, but this is altogether different, because the software itself does not need to be evil anymore; only the people on the other end of link.getsync.com.

in 1.4. you can still use keys. it's under the general cog-options menu ("Enter a key"). Though, keep in mind that the link is much more secure (w/links you can set expiration, approval and/or usage limits). you can also paste the link into the key field ].

  3. You can always remove a shared folder from Sync and it will stop syncing with other devices, or even better, open Folder Preferences and choose Update key (hides under View key), then choose Create new key (warning: this will disconnect all connected devices). Later you can use the new key you got to update it on other devices.

  4. Hi Oldmark,

    1. on your desktop side, add the folder that contains the 2 files to Sync and then click "Share" > choose "QR code". note that you can choose between Read only and Read and write.

    2. on your iPad, choose "Add folder" and then scan the QR you got in step one.

    that's it :)
