    … it seems to empty the folder and start redownloading all the files, it can take ages. …

     

    Is there really no other way?

    I looked all over for some FAQ for users upgrading from 1.4 to 2.0 but found nothing on the matter.

    Is it even safe for my data? How to upgrade folders without having to redownload dozens of Gigabytes?
