    I came to the conclusion that the CPU (and possibly RAM) is the bottleneck. It seems to use some processing to encrypt the data (although you said you disabled encryption?). When I sync using two fast computers on a fast network the CPU utilisation appears to be much higher than the 1.6GHz Arm processor would be able to provide.
