Will syncing both like this double the files and folders which are the same on both devices?

I have a 120 gig music folder on my home computer and want to have it on my external harddrive at work. Is it better to copy all files to the external harddrive first, then take it to work and sync? Or should I set the external hard drive up at work and sync all the files?

I have the same trouble, BitSync works on my desktops, but not from my Surface Pro 4.
