So you can install Resilio Sync on all your family member devices with a single user license, too. Then it is, as if you own all the devices. But: All your family members will have the same user account in Resilio Sync and thus can see the same shares. That becomes problematic if you plan to sync financial data on your devices and also want to sync other shares with your kids devices. Then they also have access to the financial data shares. If you don't want this and want that each family member has its own private shares and has to share them with others in order to sync them, then you need another license, in case of the family license you get 5 independent users.

It won't remove it from other machines, it will just stop syncing the folder on your machine. So disconnect it, move the folder and then connect it again with the new custom set path.

What you're asking for is what the archive folder does for you already. e.g. I have PC A, PC B and one NAS synced. I delete my entire collection on PC A, on PC B and the NAS the entire collection will get moved to the archive folder from where I can copy it back on PC B or the NAS. I modify my entire collection on PC A (e.g. optimize the images, did this just a few weeks ago. So the same a ransomware would do). On PC B and the NAS all files will get moved to the archive folder and the new files synced. So i could restore the files from PC B and the NAS from the archive if I did something wrong. In reality I had to delete the archive, to free some space afterwards Nevertheless, I have an incremental daily backup, too. So whenever I do something stupid, I could restore the files from the daily backup, too.

It's impossible for Resilio Sync. It's a sync and not a backup. For a ransomware you need a working backup and nothing else! Every other solution might work or not, depending on the ransomware. If you have a ransomware, it's very likely the remote location has it too, thus it would be useless if Resilio Sync tells me that files got encrypted if they get encrypted on each PC independently. That's why you need a backup, at best an offline backup! Resilio has a basic backup, which prevents the destruction of remote files due to a ransomware or deletion, it's the archive folder. I don't see why they should implement another additional layer if you could simply install an AV scanner on your PC to detect a ransomware? So what don't you like about the archive folder? Resilio Sync works in the background and the less I notice its presence the better. This means if I edit a lot of files (e.g. batch image editing) I don't want to get disturbed by some stupid warnings that a lot of files got changed recently. I know it. That's why I'm doing it. I also don't want another additional CPU load. So again, what's wrong with the archive folder? What's wrong with using an AV scanner?

I have to agree with xkey, I also don't like the way selective sync does work and thus I don't use it, even though I would loved to have it. Your implementation is nice and maybe some people have a use for it, I however find it very cumbersome and don't have any use for it. It makes deleting files awkward and its use in my opinion difficult. I also would prefer a much simpler "select the subfolder you want synced on your client individually and all files and subfolders of this subfolder get fully synced immediately" solution. Of course, I can simulate this solution by manually adding the subfolders to Resilio Sync instead of the root folder, but then the overview in Sync gets lost. And then, maybe, add your solution on top of this, so one can, for the excluded subfolders, still use this placeholder feature.

Resilio Sync is a two way sync and thus not a backup! Resilio Sync stores the old file in a so called Archive folder as a very very basic 'backup'. So in the case of a ransomware encrypting all files on computer A, these encrypted files will get synced to computer B, but on computer B Resilio Sync copies the not encrypted files to the Archive folder first. Still, because it's a two way sync, it's not a backup. It's more likely that the ransomware infects computer B through the network, too and thus encrypts all files there, too, including the archive. So don't skip the backup and don't omit an AV scanner on each computer, even if some people think they don't need one.

You can set the location to wherever you want, that's the advantage of Resilio Sync. Set the device to disconnected: https://help.resilio.com/hc/en-us/articles/205457775-Synchronization-Modes Then add the folder manually with the shared key and select a user defined location.

Use TCPView from the Microsoft Sysinternals Suite and take a look at the detailed connections and traffic of Sync. If you have an more advanced software firewall than just the windows firewall, you should be able to easily block internet traffic of sync and test if it's still working. With the Windows Firewall you can block the outgoing traffic of Sync completely and add another rule to allow the traffic for the IP Range of your LAN.

The article you linked to is about "Can I Move Or Rename A Syncing Folder?" It's not about the folders inside the Syncing Folder. Of course you can rename and move folders in your syncing folders and the changes will get applied to the other machines. The same with files etc. It's just if you connect two folders and sync their content, then a name change of these two connected parent folders won't get synced. Their content however, will get synced, every change will get synced!

I'm no expert, also just a Resilio Sync user, but you could try to optimize the Power User Preferences. My suggestions would be: folder_defaults.use_relay = false (default true) (you don't seem to have a use for a relay server) folder_defaults.use_tracker = false (default true) (you don't need a tracker, because you have Search LAN enabled and sync over WiFi) send_statistics = false (default true) (see bottom of this post) from https://www.resilio.com/docs/Resilio_Sync_Security_and_Privacy_Brief.pdf

Yes, but not with your NAS. (you need more RAM) You don't specify exactlt what Resilio Sync will do in your setup. If it's only there to backup your iPhone, then it's fine. If it acts as a backup for the 8TB Data, then you need more RAM. Except for the iPhones, I also wouldn't use Resilio Sync as a backup solution, because you don't have a version history, and it's a two way sync. Better use some imaging tool for complete computer backups.

No, Sync checks for file changes the whole time. (that's not what I meant with indexing) But once in a while Sync scans all files again to see if a file got changed but was missed by the auomatic detection, that's the rescan interval. The rescan takes pretty long on my laptop, causes high CPU and HDD usage. Thus I increased the time to once every two days, had no issues yet. But it's possible that a file change might get detected in two days at the earliest. I own the pro license, tried selective sync but don't use selective sync any longer because it does not fit my use case.

Because the folder exists already, Sync creates a new one, to not overwrite the existing one and cause a huge mess if it wasn't intented. Try to add the folder manually, by using the Read/Write key of the folder and select as destination the existing folder. Resilio will ask you if you really want to do this, because the folder exists already, but it's fine.

Can't agree here. Using it on Windows 10 on two computers, one with 8GB RAM, Desktop, Core i5, 2500, the other a with 4GB RAM Core 2 Duo U7600 (so pretty old and slow). On both, Resilio Sync consumes around 170MB RAM and barely uses the CPU. On my NAS (QNAP TS-451, 16GB RAM) it consumes 200MB RAM when idle. I sync around 200GB and 140k files. In the QNAP Web UI in the App Center you click on the downfacing arrow next to the app icon and click stop, after a minute or so, the app got stopped and you can click start the same way. Alternatively you can log into your NAS via SSH and navigate to /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/ResilioSync There's a file, called resilio-sync.sh, which can get started with the parameters start, stop or restart, doing exactly what they are called. What NAS do you use, what firmware, what Resilio Sync version, how much RAM does your NAS have and how many files do you sync? To regain access have you tried to deactivate the App and later active it again, before uninstalling? I own a TS-451 with 16GB RAM, running QTS 4.3 and had not a single issue with it on my NAS yet.
