  1. Hi What is current best practice for syncing existing folders? I note that Sync puts a 'system folder' in the folder being shared.....if I setup a Sync share (creating the Sync system folder), then copy across the content outside sync (USB connected directed to source) and copy the payload would Sync see the content as synced? I think it should....... Cheers, Geoff.
  2. Hi! I do not have alot of knowledge under Linux but here's my question. I have a raspberry PI 2 B, running raspbian. I installed BTSync from this how to: It works fine, newer version than the one I installed before (with advanced options now yeah!). My issue is that I can only control the web gui locally, I can't get on the IP address:8888/gui to do a remote control. How to? thanks
  3. Hi, I created a "synced foler" on my PC. A ".sync\IgnoreList" file was automatically created. I edited it and wrote the file. I restarted Sync. Then I shared this folder on my phone. On my phone a ".sync\IgnoreList" file was automatically created. But: 1) this file is not the copy of the one on the PC, instead it's the default IgnoreList file 2) I can't edit the phone's IgnoreList because * when I open it with ES File manager / Text editor, when saving, I have "cannot write" (maybe it's a permission problem? this happens even if Sync is not running) * when I connect phone to PC with USB (MTP mode, as this is the new USB mode since Android 4), I cannot see ".sync\IgnoreList" : it's a hidden file. Thus it is not shown on Windows. Question : how to edit ".sync\IgnoreList" on phone?
  4. I'm having an issue where the Sync is repeatedly dropping its connection, displaying "No network connection" every few mins. Currently, I'm trying to sync a load of files to a new machine (approx 2.5TB), with a one of the machines it's syncing with being on the same network. I'm seeing speeds shoot up to 100MB/s+ and then fall down to nothing, then back up and back down again. Then I'll check back intermittently and it'll be showing "No network connection". Restarting the machine fixes the issue, or after leaving it for a while (maybe 5-10 mins) it seems to resume syncing. The machine is running on Windows 7, directly wired into the router, and the other machine is running OSX 10.10.5 and is also wired into the router. Any help would be much appreciated.
  5. Hello everyone. I am trying to sync my Lightroom content from my desktop to my laptop for when I'm on the go. The first time, I told the Lightroom catalogue to just stay in it's normal place and I synced it normally. It saves in the user\Pictures folder on Windows. After a few days of working in LR, I saw my server space went from 600gb free to 50gb free. Every change I made in LR, it synced and created a new archive to my server. And since the server saves all changes for 45 days, I'd have hundreds upon hundreds of versions of the LR catalogue. I searched a bit and found this link And it says: I'm not sure if this setting I found above would limit the number of total file size changes? For example, if I set it to 2000, that would give me roughly 2gb of file versions. But what happens after that? If I set it to 5000, and it keeps roughly 5gb of changes, does it begin to delete the OLDEST ones first? Normally I don't mind about the number of file versions, because most images or documents are, at most, 40mb. But my LR catalogue is 900mb, and every time I make 1 stroke or change 1 tiny thing, the whole catalogue gets backed up (which I want), but the number of versions gets out of hand. Are there any solutions anyone could think of? Thank you very much.
  6. Is it possible to tell is a folder is fully synced/currently syncing or not from command line/bash? Background: My shared folders are zfs filesystems on my Ubuntu 16.04 server and I want to setup a cron job to take a zfs snapshot as long as a btsync is not currently syncing with a peer. Thanks in advance for your help!
  7. Hi. Is there a way to see some stats for the Sync client running in the API mode, starting from the date it was installed. For instance, the total size of the data transferred (uploaded/downloaded) or the total number of folders that were added. I'm writing a report on the Sync usage and that would be useful.
  8. Have a relatively simple setup with FreeNAS running BTSync plugin at version 2.3.8. Also running the iOS client 2.3.4. If I do the following, I cannot get the iOS device to find the FreeNAS server and start doing a camera roll backup: Configure the FreeNAS btsync plugin to disable non-LAN connections: folder_defaults.use_relay = false folder_defaults.use_tracker = false folder_defaults.use_lan_broadcase = true Enable "Camera backup" on iOS device, email myself the link. Go to browser UI for FreeNAS btsync plugin, go to cogwheel at top right corner, select "Manual connection". Paste link from email, choose storage location. btsync web UI shows added folder and shows "Pending approval". Go to iOS device and approve the connection. Observed Results: FreeNAS btsync UI shows folder with "No peers". iOS device shows "Camera backup" with "Connect to a device" notice. Expected Results: iOS device should see the folder on the FreeNAS btsync service and start backing up the items from the camera roll. Alternate Flow: If I enable relay and tracker, it starts syncing. Can this work with LAN-ONLY setup?
  9. Hi all, I have troubles automatically syncing directories in my user context with having the Sync instance encapsulated in a Docker container (having a Pro licence) Using the Sync-Dockerfile [1] [2] (afais Ubuntu 15.04), I have setup an instance on a Ubuntu based server and anothe rinstance on my Fedora 23 desktop. the server's data directory points to a btrfs subvolume, i.e., DATA_FOLDER="/data/sync/" > docker run -d --name Sync -p$WEBUI_PORT:8888 -p 55555 -v $DATA_FOLDER:/mnt/sync --restart on-failure bittorrent/sync on the desktop I mount additionally my user's home to be able to sync selectively directories, i.e., into the containers /mnt/mounted_folders path (afais the target path for additional directories in the container's default config) > docker run -d --name Sync -p$WEBUI_PORT:8888 -p 55555 -v $DATA_FOLDER:/mnt/sync -v /home/MYUSER:/mnt/mounted_folders/MYUSER --restart on-failure bittorrent/sync When I add on my desktop a directory from my user's home path, it appears in principle after some time in the server's WebUI and the base directory created in server:/data/sync/folder/... However, no files are being synced and the directory on the server stays empty. On the desktop, a .sync firectory is created being owned by root as the docker daemon's owner. I have already tried to decrease the scan frequency to 300s just in case the file system notifies are not being passed through to the container(??) - but without success and the content of the user folder is not synced. Maybe somebody has an idea for me, how to get the user folder synced? Cheers and thanks, Thomas
  10. This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find the answer in the forum or the support areas. What I would like to do is to sync files on two computers (COMPUTER-1 and COMPUTER-2) by using a third computer that is always online (ALWAYS-ONLINE-COMPUTER) using an Encrypted Folder, so the ALWAYS-ONLINE-COMPUTER only sees encrypted data, but COMPUTER-1 and COMPUTER-2 can sync even if they aren't both online simultaneously. And I would like the sync to be bi-directional, so files changed/added/deleted on COMPUTER-1 are synced to COMPUTER-2, and files changed/added/deleted on COMPUTER-2 are synced to COMPUTER-1. Is there a way to do that? I created an Encrypted Folder on COMPUTER-1 and added it to ALWAYS-ONLINE-COMPUTER using the Encrypted key. And the files successfully synced from COMPUTER-1 to ALWAYS-ONLINE-COMPUTER in encrypted form. What do I do next? How do I sync the files to COMPUTER-2 from ALWAYS-ONLINE-COMPUTER? Would I use the Read & Write key from COMPUTER-1 (but wouldn't that cause COMPUTER-2 to try to connect directly to COMPUTER-1)? Thanks for any help.
  11. I plan on using bittorrent sync to share media between my home computer and my computer at University. Most of the media is just photos, but some of the media is downloaded movies, etc. Will I get in trouble sharing this media to myself essentially? This is using bittorent sync so I'm basically P2P to myself and not to others so the two computer's IP aren't public to be caught by a media company via DMCA.
  12. I was working on a big multi-file project with my friend over at his computer. this project was synced. after I returned home he calls me and says half of the files are gone. I tell him to look his history and the last thing he has is finished syncing. (the 33 minutes ago is 23:21) at the same time i look at my history and what I've got is a list of all the files deleted by him at 23:18. There is nothing about it in his history. I go into archive and there's a few old files from days earlier and one from today from 23:18, however in actuality it's a version from the day before. I'm extremely frustrated. This project was a lot of work for us, I don't know what to do.... Can anyone help??? attached are the screenshots of file history from him and me (taken not at the same time). I'm desperately asking for help.
  13. To match the capability of the computer app, It would be extraordinarily beneficial to be able to selectively sync a single sub-folder inside of a shared folder, and have all of its contents automatically synced. I believe this is most essential on mobile where I would need to access a few photos quickly, without waiting for every item to download, yet conserving storage space as much as possible.
  14. I'm using the basic Sync app (not Pro) to synchronize a folder between my Samsung Note Pro tablet and my Motorola DROID Turbo 2 phone. It worked like a charm earlier today (synching several GBs of data both ways between my devices), but after disconnecting and reconnecting my phone to WiFi, now neither device can seem to "see" the other; each device shows the other as "Offline." Both are on the same WiFi network (don't think that's necessary, but they are), and both have Internet access. Restarting the Sync app on both devices hasn't made any difference. Is there any way to refresh that status?
  15. My Android Pictures folder sync'd just fine. Then I went Add backup -> ADD CAMERA BACKUP. Now Camera backup shows "0 files, 0 B" even when there are over a hundred photos in SDCARD/DCIM folder and Camera is set to save in SDCARD. How can I backup my photos from camera?
  16. Hi.. I use Sync on my Android Samsung Galaxy S4, my wife's Samsung Galaxy Note 3 & a Galaxy Tab S to backup photos, and also to sync a file of music between devices, and selective sync some photos and documents (I have a pro license) - I also use Sync on a 2 desktop computers and three laptops (all Windows 10). All devices are kept up to date. A few days ago the Android devices stopped backing up, and although sync is still running all the folders are listed as disconnected and the camera backup isn't present. If I restart the camera backup it creates a new file and starts from scratch (which is a large upload!!), and if I try and link any of the folders again - same issue - it creates a new folder even though the original is still present on the SD card. Any thoughts would be appreciated as to what has happened and how I can prevent it.. otherwise I am going to be spending a lot of time re-syncing and have DCIM (9999) in no time!!
  17. I'm using Sync with about 10 people and it's transferring/managing about 150 GB between multiple machines. As of about two weeks ago, it's been generating Conflict copies left and right. Yesterday I cleaned out 127,000 Conflict copies (various and random throughout the folders and files) and today cleaned out another 38,000 generated. Looking to get a more permanent fix for this as it's filling up my coworker's hard drives and creating a lot of confusion/chaos. - Joshua
  18. Hi, I just was curious about the function of folders when they are copied. When I copy a folder from one hard drive (#1) that has a folder already being synced to another computer's (#2), when viewed on the new hard drive which I copied it onto (#3) it has the Sync label in the Mac finder view. Does this mean that the new copied folder onto the 3rd external drive will also be synced? It is under a different name and is not listed under the folders when opened in Sync, it is just the view in the finder that leads me to believe that. The drive #3 is a backup of sorts, if that makes a difference. Cheers and thanks! Included an image of the folder in finder as well.
  19. I have a folder in a Mac desktop synced to a Windows Phone 10. The folder name in the Mac is “Books”, the name in WP10 at first was also “Books”. At some point I removed this folder in WP10 and started over (just to learn how it all works). Now that same folder shows up as “Books (2)” in WP10. Back and forth (both with settings and help center) I can not find how to rename this folder back to “Books”, as it is in the desktop. I would appreciate any help, thank you.
  20. I'm using QNAP TS451 with 4.2 firmware. I plan to sync photos across my iPhone and wife's iPhone, or at least back them up on the server. Every other app has sucked so far, so this looked promising. First time I loaded the qpkg just by searching with the built in QNAP app manager (ver 2.3.6) and though the btsync screen loaded beautifully and was user friendly, if I tried to link my phone and set a destination folder, it errors saying "sync doesn't have permissions to this folder" no matter where I put it. Even pre creating the folder in QNAP. I tried to change permissions to give admin (and even a group called btsync) access to the folder and still no joy. So I saw a tutorial recommending installation of btsync by manual installation in the QNAP app screen, so I uninstalled and reinstalled manually and now the btsync screen won't load at all. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the other way and still won't load. Any ideas???
  21. I'm quite impressed with the app but I have one large issue that needs to be resolved. When files are synced, the source file creation and modification dates are not being synced correctly. The source file's creation date becomes the destination file's modification date and the destination file's creation date/time becomes the date/time of the transfer. This is not correct behavior and it is very misleading and confusing when trying to compare file versions, especially on things like photo files. I shouldn't have to dig into the metadata under the file's properties/info tab to see when a picture was taken. I have used and loved a program called AllwaySync for years because it always transfers all file attributes correctly when Windows Explorer and many other programs do not. Please fix! Thanks
  22. Hello, This would be great for BitTorrent Sync to be packaged as a Synology Package (SPK) so that users can install it. I am the main maintainer of a cross-compilation framework dedicated to create SPKs: spksrc I've created myself (and some contributors) quite a few packages already but I won't be able to create one for BitTorrent Sync because it isn't open source, which I deeply regret. Cheers
  23. I'm trying to install BTsync on on a Raspberry Pi B+ (Jessie), I followed the instructions on the blog and added the offical linux packages, it installed OK and I ran: sudo service btsync start Then checking status seemed to suggest that everything was working OK, however I can't access the gui from another machine on the network to complete setup I'm using: (I've confirmed the pi IP is correct with ifconfig). It seems I either need to complete an extra step of set up somehow?
  24. We have a problem with sync producing hundreds of (usually empty) *.Conflict folders and the debug log is producing 100MB per hour of crap. A lot of it is stuff like: [20160412 10:00:01.486] JOURNAL[0123]: won't perform job for entry "Admin/Admin/DAGLIG DRIFT/ANSETTELSER/Petter Gillebo/215.05 Tidsbegrenset arbeids.textClipping/" - parent has fs error [20160412 10:00:01.486] JOURNAL[0123]: Setup entry job "FileEntryJob" for path "Admin/Admin/DAGLIG DRIFT/ANSETTELSER/Petter Gillebo/215.05 Tidsbegrenset arbeids.textClipping/", next state is "COMPLETE", queue size 0 313 0 [20160412 10:00:01.486] JOURNAL[0123]: remote entry job complete for entry "/Users/IngerFrost/BitTorrent Sync/Frost Arkitekter/Admin/Admin/DAGLIG DRIFT/ANSETTELSER/JohnDoe/215.05 Tidsbegrenset arbeids.textClipping/" [20160412 10:00:01.486] JOURNAL[0123]: { "dl_failed": false, "file_hash": "DEC4716639E4E60F2A05A151B8AFCC78D245A3A2", "file_id": "0:0", "fs_error": true, "have_pieces": 0, "ignored": false, "info_hash": "4C0B4E3E487D7F5B5DF605A3C276139C17097C87", "invalidated": false, "link_content": "", "locked": false, "mtime": -1, "name_on_disk": "", "otime": 51706, "owner": "106BCD002BBCE0DA447EBF1B2FA921A48A92B104", "path": "/Users/IngerFrost/BitTorrent Sync/Frost Arkitekter/Admin/Admin/DAGLIG DRIFT/ANSETTELSER/JohnDoe/215.05 Tidsbegrenset arbeids.textClipping/", "perm": 0, "ph_ext": ".bts", "placeholder": false, "pvi": "pvi[NULL]", "selected_for_dl": true, "size": 582, "state": 1, "time": 1460406692, "total_pieces": 1, "type": 5 } [20160412 10:00:01.486] JOURNAL[0123]: won't perform job for entry "Admin/Admin/DAGLIG DRIFT/ANSETTELSER/JaneWalther" - parent has fs error We have restarted the mac and sync several times. 25. Hi, Having had a ton of issues that I've been able to surmount (namely permissions issues that I could only fix by copying all my files to a new share on the same source NAS), I'm now unable to get this working, and here I came for help. The purpose of my bitsync install is to keep a working server in my company synced with a backup server which I'll keep home after the initial sync (~3.3Tb) has taken place locally. My target NAS is using bittorent sync 1.4, as it is the latest available version for qoriq based Synology NAS, but I have been able to install everything, setup a shared folder and start the sync process, so to my untrained eye this does not seem to be the source of my problems. Source NAS is running the latest version available through synocommunity. Target NAS only has read permissions (thus my source/target names for the NAS'). Problem 1: My source folder is ~3.31 Tb; Sync only "sees" 2.94 Tb. It shows "indexing" for days, but it does not seem to be able to index the latest ~370Gb or so. (picture 1). Permissions' issues with the original share were what made me use the nuclear option, create a share and define all the permissions from scratch, sos I'm pretty sure this isn't a permissions issue as outlined in the FAQ and in many forum posts. Problem 2: Target NAS synced folder stopped at around 260Gb, and it stopped increasing. Although both NAS are currently connected to the same gigabit switch, transfer rates went from ~10Mb/s with peaks of ~30Mb/s to 1-2kb/s. I have since removed the shared folder in the target NAS, in the hopes that this would decrease the load on the server and improve the speed with which it was being indexed. Hasn't happened. Any ideas on why it stopped syncing with more than 90% to go? Problem 3: Bittorent Sync's web interface stopped generating the QR codes for syncing with mobile apps. (picture 2) This was working before, and I have been able to successfully link the shared folder with my iPhone. Two related questions: 1 - Bittorrent Sync generates a ton of logs and journals, any hints on what I should try to search for in order to try to understand what the problems are? Also, why would I have a B07A0AB68F26F6E0CCEEF0CFBBC7FBBFEFAB3455.5711241.db file at /usr/local/bittorentsync/var that is ~3.6Gb and growing? It seems quite large, what is supposedly stored in this database? 2 - I've had a (quite bizarre, IMHO) behaviour where the files in a test source folder were deleted when I removed the shared folder in the source NAS through Sync's web interface. I believe this is not intended behaviour, but this is in a way hold me back trying the "nuke" option of uninstall/reinstall and starting from scratch. I realise these may not be the cleverest questions, but I've pretty much exhausted all the how-to's and forum material that I could find and I'm stuck. Any help towards a despairing noob would be dearly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Vasco
