  1. I installed the same version of resilio-sync on two fedora workstations following this page: https://help.resilio.com/hc/en-us/articles/206178924-Installing-Sync-package-on-Linux When I connect these two computers on a standard directory, they are not connected to each others "no peer online -- 0 of 0". In fact I can see a warning message in the Web UI configuration page : "Connection settings overwritten by config". I don't know what this message means. My configuration file loaded by the rslsync is located in ~/.config/resilio-sync/config.json and its content looks like: { "storage_path" : "~/.config/resilio-sync/storage", "pid_file" : "~/.config/resilio-sync/sync.pid", "webui" : { "force_https": true, "listen" : "127.0.0.1:8888" } I checked the troubleshooting procedure: my connection allow TCP and UDP packets, .... and I can't find out what the problem could be. Note that I have been using Resilio since 3 years without any problem.
  2. Hello! I've been running Resilio Sync for a while and am quite happy with it. I use a raspberry pi as my "server node". Today, I encountered the issue that I was out of disk space and discovered that the .config folder is a whopping 8.9GB large. I would either need a way to identify files that can safely be deleted from that folder, or a way to move the folder to the usb drive I use to store the sync folders. Can someone help me out?
  3. I prefer to use non-webUI version of Sync and use the config file to setup shared folders and other parameters. Is it possible to configure "Power User Preferences" like Peer expiration, Journaling, File System Notifications, etc. through the config?
  4. I cant get sync to work with "Camera Backup" folders. I want to sync an "Camera Backup" from an Android device to an Raspberrypi running raspbian using an config file. Syncing the "Camera Backup" to an desktop pc with windows and without config-file works perfectly fine, also other "normal" folders on the raspberrypi are beeing synced perfectly even with the said Android device. Here is my config, with changed values for posting: { "device_name": "HOSTNAME", "use_upnp" : true, "download_limit" : 8000, "upload_limit" : 500, "shared_folders" : [ { "secret" : "SECRET", // required field - use --generate-secret in command line to c$ "dir" : "FOLDERPATH", // * required field "use_relay_server" : true, // use relay server when direct connection fails "use_tracker" : true, "search_lan" : true, "use_sync_trash" : true, // enable SyncArchive to store files deleted on remote devices "overwrite_changes" : true // restore modified files to original version, ONLY for Read-Only folders } .... what am i missing?
  5. Hello. I have been familiar with torrent for a long time, but recently trying to migrate to resilio (due to my frustration with dropbox and the limitations). I have a Laptop (running Arch Linux) with all my data. I have set up a config file for a couple of my folders. I have posted my code below, or it's in a pastebin here. I want to sync my Music folder to my android phone. (Samsung Galaxy S7) I installed the Sync app, and entered the "secret" of the Music folder as a key in my phone, and directed it into an empty folder called Music in my sd card. After this, my phone says it sees my Laptop as a peer, but I can't see any files in the Music folder. And it says it has synced. I check my ~/Music folder on my laptop, and it is well populated. The reason I'm using the JSON config file is I am more comfortable with manual configs over a GUI. { "device_name": "SBP-Laptop" ,"use_upnp" : true ,"download_limit" : 0 ,"upload_limit" : 0 ,"webui" : { "listen" : "0.0.0.0:8888" // remove field to disable WebUI ,"login" : "SOME UNAME" ,"password" : "SOME PASSWORD" } /* !!! if you set shared folders in config file WebUI will be DISABLED !!! shared directories specified in config file override the folders previously added from WebUI. */ ,"shared_folders" : [ { // required field - use --generate-secret in command line to create new secret "secret" : "SOME SECRET" ,"dir" : "Documents" // use relay server when direct connection fails ,"use_relay_server" : true ,"use_tracker" : true ,"search_lan" : true // enable SyncArchive to store files deleted on remote devices ,"use_sync_trash" : true // restore modified files to original version, ONLY for Read-Only folders ,"overwrite_changes" : false // add folder in selective sync mode ,"selective_sync" : false // specify hosts to attempt connection without additional search ,"known_hosts" : [ "192.168.1.2:44444" ] } ,{ // required field - use --generate-secret in command line to create new secret "secret" : "SOME SECRET" ,"dir" : "Pictures" ,"use_relay_server" : true ,"use_tracker" : true ,"search_lan" : true ,"use_sync_trash" : true ,"overwrite_changes" : false ,"selective_sync" : false ,"known_hosts" : [ "192.168.1.2:44444" ] } ,{ // required field - use --generate-secret in command line to create new secret "secret" : "SOME SECRET" ,"dir" : "Music" ,"use_relay_server" : true ,"use_tracker" : true ,"search_lan" : true ,"use_sync_trash" : true ,"overwrite_changes" : false ,"selective_sync" : false ,"known_hosts" : [ "192.168.1.2:44444" ] } ,{ // required field - use --generate-secret in command line to create new secret "secret" : "SOME SECRET" ,"dir" : "Videos" ,"use_relay_server" : true ,"use_tracker" : true ,"search_lan" : true ,"use_sync_trash" : true ,"overwrite_changes" : false ,"selective_sync" : false ,"known_hosts" : [ "192.168.1.2:44444" ] } ] }
  6. Is there a way to disable the Windows popup notifications when using the config file? I know there is a way without the config file going to general settings and unchecking “Show Notifications” – but when you use the config file that options disappears.
  7. Hey guys, for some reason, I'm trying to start Sync in configuration mode (Win64), using this config: { "storage_path" : "./sync", "device_name": "my-device", "agree_to_EULA" : "yes", "check_for_updates" : false, "use_gui": true, "use_upnp" : true, "download_limit" : 0, "upload_limit" : 0, "rate_limit_local_peers": false, "lan_encrypt_data": false, "sync_max_time_diff": 172800, "peer_expiration_days": 3, "folder_defaults.use_relay": true, "folder_defaults.use_tracker": true, "folder_defaults.use_lan_broadcast": true, "sync_trash_ttl": 1, "send_statistics": false, "enable_journaling": false, ... This was working fine a while ago with BTsync 1.4 and 2.0. Now I am running into two weird problems: - Sync want's to create a new identity every time - but successfully creates database and other files in ./sync - If I activate the webui-listener, Sync always opens a webbrowser with the webif every time (which I really don't need), even if I enable the local gui The Sync.log says: [2017-07-29 02:12:10.055] Set new identity: blah blah blah [2017-07-29 02:12:10.060] Unable to add identity 'blah blah blah' to DB, DB is NULL [2017-07-29 02:12:10.060] WebUISession call callback 43, ListeningSyncEvents = 1 [2017-07-29 02:12:10.062] Sending broadcast ping for 3 shares [2017-07-29 02:12:10.062] Sending broadcast ping for 3 shares [2017-07-29 02:12:10.070] Master Folder Controller: disconnect master folder [2017-07-29 02:12:10.070] Master Folder Controller: no master folder [2017-07-29 02:12:10.070] Master Folder Controller: set secret [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] assert failed PathVector.cpp:73 [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] assert failed PathVector.cpp:73 [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] MD[init]: Master Folder: create [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] assert failed PathVector.cpp:73 [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] MD[init]: Master Folder: failed to create 101 [2017-07-29 02:12:10.071] Master Folder Controller: cannot create master folder (error: 101) [2017-07-29 02:12:10.120] ZIP: Can't locate [version.json] in zip, error -100. 8. Hi, I know " btsync --dump - shows -config " this create a configuration file template . it is possible to obtain the current settings to a file? I need export the actual config in a file. Thanks!!
  9. I'm trying to configure on freeBSD. but I can't access the webUI. Anything I'm missing? I've set up the config file by going "./rslsync --dump-sample-config > sync.conf," making my desired edits, then restarting rslsync by going "killall rslsync" and then "./rslsync" what's the problem?
  10. Hello, I would like to setup a script on Linux to install Sync and automatically configure with my pro account and with a specified configuration of the folders to be synced. Is this possible?
  11. Hi, Over the last month, I've had a lot of trouble with BTSync and had to reinstall several times. Each time I've done this, I have lost all the config options (mainly the shares). I'm now on the official debian version, but am confused which config files I should back-up. I want to get to the stage where I can install BTSync on a freshly formatted device, restore a config, and all the old settings and shares are there and working. Can anyone advise which folders and files are essential to be backed-up to make this happen? Thanks Will
  12. I'm a linux newbie, so still fumbling my way forward at this stage. I've installed lubuntu onto an old 32-bit laptop & am now looking at installation & configuration. There appears to be two methods to install. Either find the appropriate package to download & install, such as.. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxpoldo/btsync sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install btsync or, to simply download & unpack, such as... tar xzpf btsync_glibc23_x64.tar.gz Are there pros vs. cons of either approach ? (I followed the latter as I couldn't get the package method to work. Google is littered with different examples of package install, from past versions & years, so I'm just firing off blindly... and missing my target) At the moment I have to login & execute btsync manually ./btsync from my home directory. Can anyone advise how I can get it to execute on boot ? I'm planning to remove as much irrelevant software as possible - this machine will be used only for syncing - is there anything important that BTsync relies upon that I ought not delete ? Thanks all, PaulU
  13. Hi all, I am planing to use BTSync in an environemnt in the field. We are talking about one machine running as "server" (or data buffer) and about 15 laptops that are all in principle in the same LAN segment. However, since this realy is about being in the field, the connection may be LAN or WiFi and does not have to be stable. This is so since we are a catastrophe releif organisation - so nothing can be considered stable and working all the time. BTSync is perfect for this because we can use 2 or more laptops in a splitt off situation and data still will be synced allthoug there is no server (like with OwnCloud, etc). It is important for us that data is replicated relatively fast (seconds) without flooding the network with traffic. Again, since we are not targeting larger networks: what settings would you choose in this case for the clients? We have about 4 folders that we use to sync portable apps and read only data to the clients from a central data storage (or 2). And we have about 10 folders where each client can publicate his data in (rw with all others). What we found out is that it is tricky to deploy this kind of settings. There is no config file that could be exported and imported. You can use the option to sync all settings for one user - but then your have logged in the same user on each machine wiche does not make sense because every machine is used by a different user. Next, we would like to have the data only one time on the machine. If different users log into the machine after each other every user would produce a copy of the same files which would clutter the hard drive. Anyone an idea how to deploy predefined settings and folders with their keys? Also, when a mission is over we would like to easily remotely clean the machines. This is not that easy if you have the sync archeive settings on on each machine. Any idea how to get the sync archieve cleaned remotely? Unfortunately, the numbering of the sync archeive is not reflecting the same data on each machine. This can lead easily to burried changes. Any ideas/tips welcome! Regards, Marc
  14. hi, I'm using bittorrent sync, but I have a "problem". I run bittorrent sync without the configuration file (./btsync --nodaemon --webui.listen 0.0.0.0:8080). When I make changes in the config from the UI and I run (./ btsync --nodaemon --config /btsync/config.json) the changes not persists in the DB file. why is this happening? thanks!!
  15. Hi, I've been using BtSync for a while, long before official Synology packages. When upgrading to 2.0, things went funny and I decided to delete and re-create the share, from scratch. No problem on Android and Windows. Now, how do I add a share to the ARM version ? Please note that : - I only have SSH access to this NAS. It's behind a router at the other side of the country, so I can't access to the HTTP WebUI. - I used to edit the config file in vi, and just copy-paste the secret. - Now in 2.0, the "get secret" option disappeared. I can just get a https://link.getsync.com url. - I can still see the secrets of my old shares. On the new, I can't. TL;DR : how can I convert a link.getsync.com url to a secret that I can add to a config file ? Thanks !
  16. In the config file it is possible to specify the port btsync listens on. It is also possible to specify the IP and port for the web UI. However, I have failed to find a way to specify which IP btsync listens on. So when running v2.0.120 on linux, if multiple IP addresses are available, how do I configure btsync to use one IP instead of the another? Thanks.
  17. I've set up a linux server with bittorrent sync. The folders are on an external HDD drive. After almost 24h it finally finished indexing - yes the server is slow - but the HDD still doesn't spin down. This is a little troubling, I'm sure the external HDD is not supposed to run non-stop. Apparently this is connected to the indexing intervals. Sync will check the folder for changes every 10 minutes and that keeps the HDD from spinning down. I need to adjust this indexing interval. This seemed perfect: http://help.getsync.com/customer/portal/articles/1570790-can-i-change-how-often-sync-checks-for-file-changes- Unfortunately in my advanced settings there is no option to change the interval (linux web ui). I've read that the interval can also be set by a config file which is given to the executable via the --config flag. Great, but I still need to get that config file. I dumped a sample config file, which would need to be adapted, but before I do that, I have two questions : 1. Is it possible to get the "current" config file ? Which contains the configuration, that btsync uses right now, eg correct folders, correct ports, correct user-name ? I'm afraid that passing a config file will mess up the folders that are already indexed. It would be a shame if another 24h were lost on that. 2. If the "current" config file is not available, if I have to adjust the sample config, what do I need to change ? Which settings are important and which are dangerous ? I tried to find a tutorial which tells me where to be careful, but so far, I haven't found it.
  18. Hi, I've been using btsync since the very early beta days, and it's great for my needs. One thing that I noticed was that I had migrated my data from an old system to the new system, and the system name still reflects the old system. Upon going into the configuration in 1.4.103 (updated yesterday), I went to change the name of the system, only to find the Edit button wasn't there. Doing a little research, it seems that there are two formats for the config file - an old (binary) format, and a new text-based format. My systems all use the binary format. Is there a way to convert the configuration to the new text format so I can change the system name? I've got a number of directories set up to sync, and would rather not have to set them all up again. Thanks!
  19. Hi. I'm trying to use BitTorrent sync with the --config option. I have a Read Only key and the initial sync works fine, but if i for example change something in my read only folder, nothing will be synced. If i use the gui it starts working when i check the "Overwrite any changed files". So, my question is, what is the equivalent when using a config file? This is my folder settings atm, but i can't seem to find the required key: { "secret" : "secret","dir" : "path","use_relay_server" : true,"use_tracker" : true,"use_dht" : false,"search_lan" : false,"use_sync_trash" : false }
  20. Hi, Just have some questions about approved peers so I understand how it works. It's a unit based setting right? I mean if I have 5 units I need to enable the setting on all devices to make sure no content is being shared to anyone else? Can these approved peers be specified in the config file using the username or device name? Thanks!
  21. I'm trying to get BT running on a server where I've previously had it working. It got rebooted, but when I launch btsync again it doesn't start syncing. I point my browser to port 8888 to manage the synced folders, but BT won't accept my login information. I'm using my server login and I've even tried 'root' and the root password, but it doesn't work. So, I used the --dump-sample-config option to create a config file sync.conf with the 'login' and 'password' files commented it out, and then launched btsync with $ ./btsync --config sync.conf I even cleared the storage directory, and my web browser's cache. Still, BT requires authentication and doesn't accept the authentication I give it. What can I do?
  22. Hi, I've just installed the most recent bittorrent sync server version (using the ubuntu package btsync). A default config file was created in /etc/btsync. The web UI is running and started via upstart as root process. The --config parameter of the btsync process is directing to the /etc/btsync config file. However, none of the setting changes, applied in the web UI, are reflected in the /etc/btsync config file. Where is the web UI storing all the config data e.g. keys, shared folders, advanced settings like disabling LAN lookup? Thanks for any hints, Best Numa P.S.: Bittorrent Sync Version 1.1.82; Ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS. Package used from tuxpoldo/btsync-deb repository
  23. The current use case of btsync for linux users is the following: They are unaware of the difficulties of the advanced configuration so the start the easy way and they configure everything in the Web UI. Later on they realize they need to make an advanced configuration. This is when they realize that all their previous work was in vein because they need to run --Dump-Sample-Config and do every configuration all over again manually in the config file. Their previous settings will be lost. This is not even documented. This is a very cumbersome procedure and not like any other linux daemon that use config files for their settings. Suggestions to improve the documentation (easy way): - Warn users in the user guide that they shouldn't do any configuration in the Web UI unless they don't want to do any advanced configuration later on. (See the next bullet point.) - Warn users in the user guide that starting btsync with a config file will erase their previous configurations they made in the Web UI. Suggestions to improve btsync (hard way): - Make an editible config file that is in sync with the configuration made in the Web UI. So it could be changed in both the Web UI or manually in the config file itself for advanced configuration. OR - Lose the config file altogether and make it possible to make any configuration in the Web UI.
  24. Hi there, I just got an issue while trying to sync folders. Already read some thread as my one. FreeBSD 10: download tar from btsync website, and run it ./btsync => got an backgroud run localhost:8888 => share folder IPad: add folder with pasting secret, and right after now on PC there were an issue Q1: Where can I get config files? Q2: What Should I do to sync folders, if PC got an +6 YAKT, IPad got +6 (YAKT) PC: % date Tue Mar 25 13:54:15 YAKT 2014Ipad: Yekaterinburg25 march 13 56 Why not works, if only 2 minutes difference and error told that it's more than 600 sec (10min)? ^ Should I set ntpserver for PC as Ipad one? Thanks!
  25. Greetings, I appologize if this has been asked before; I didn't find anything. I am trying to find specific documentation on the settings generated by the btsync --dump-sample-configcommand in linux. I want to understanding these various settings out of curiousity, and I am also trying to make sure of something else: <stupid questions> How can I be sure btsync is set up properly to transfer using the local network directly when possible instead of over the internet? (I still want it to transfer over the internet, just the local network should take priorety.) Also, will this local transfer still work when one device(raspberry pi) is hooked up via ethernet and the other device(laptop) is hooked up via wifi throught the same router, or will it go through the internet? </stupid questions> If someone can point me towards documentation or answer my stupid questions, I will be grateful. Thank you!
