    Sync fails on random fails

Hi all, I'm running resilio on a headless Debian system which act as a seed for another machine. The sync worked fine for a period, but now it fails to sync some files. Looking at the logs I see errors like the following: TF[AB6C] [0x00007fe01df91310][<PATH_TO_FILE>]: state:SEED error: meta:1 conns:1 io:0 Moreover, new files added to the same folder are not synced. I checked with lsof and only resilio is accessing such files. If it my be relevant, the folder is on a encrypted raid5 ext4 volume. Thanks

    Sync keeps crashing

We have a copy of v2.5.12 (1191) that keeps crashing on one of our machines. It will stop responding when opening, and crash when attempting to start. Sometimes it will appear to be uploading, then changing to view the history or devices will cause the crash message. I have a dump file but it is too large to attach to this post... how can I get this log examined so we can get to a solution?
  3. I just performed a sync using BitTorrent Sync v1.4.110. I am 100% certain BitTorrent Sync overwrote newer files with older files. I don't have any idea why it would do this, except for a serious bug. The file dates and file contents clearly show that new files were overwitten by old versions. I had performed a backup of some of the data before enabling the sync, and the backup confirms the problem. A little more detail: I had previously used BitTorrent Sync on these folders using 1.4.9x. Only 2 computers are using BTSync and they run the Windows 64-bit version. They are on the same wireless network. Relay and tracker servers are turned off for each sync folder. I hadn't run BTSync in over a month. I upgraded BTSync to v1.4.110 on both computers. As part of the BTSync upgrade on System #1 (which had many new files), I selected the option to run BTSync after the program version upgrade. Once it was upgraded and loaded, I ran BTSync on System #2 (which I had already upgraded to the latest version). It than began to sync. Everything looked fine and appeared to run smoothly. But when I checked the files, in many cases, old versions overwote the new versions. I now have to sift through thousands of files to determine the damage BTSync caused and try to rectify as much of the damage as possible. UPDATE: I just had a full-time computer programmer verify all the above facts, and he concluded there is a serious problem with BitTorrent Sync, and that it definitely overwrote NEWER files with OLDER ones in multiple cases. This seems to be a huge problem.

  5. I am having Kubuntu 14.4. When I try to add a folder via a key, I get the Status "Database error". Reading the article "Unknown error (Database error)" did not help. I added the relevant log lines and the configs I use. I changed the beginning of resilio-sync to DAEMON=/usr/bin/rslsync SYNC_USER=myuser CONFIG=/etc/resilio-sync/config.json Can you help?
  6. I think a key missing feature from Sync is stopping errors from propagating by interacting with the user and presenting her with options on what one can do. As an example, I recently filed an issue #49958 where the indexing was out of control. It turned out that due to some naming conflict (probably due to the composed/decomposed issue) *.Conflict folders were being created. By the time we found out why indexing never finished 1.4 million such conflict folders had been created for one particular weirdly named folder. When stuff like that happens Sync should notify the user that something really fishy is going on (ok, I am a programmer so I know that is way too wide description to implement, but you get the gist) and some possible solutions like: Folder X is causing conflicts because of naming issues. These are your options for fixing the problem: - Notify user X that the created file Y has a filename causing problems and ask her to rename the folder - Do X - Do Y We will stop sync for this subfolder/item until the problem has been fixed. If there had been some kind of "cross-network error diagnostics" built into the protocol maybe errors that arise on another peer than the one that created the filename can be propagated back to the origin to fix the error in the source. AFAIK only the "destination" peer gets any info through the GUI that a filename contains illegal characters, and from my experience they have no idea what to do about it (if they even understand it's a problem).
  7. Hi, i'm new with this sync programm; i've installed it on my server @ home; it works fine; when installing the first client; the installation goes fine. after agreeing the 2 terms, i can push the proceed button but nothing happens. when closing the programm and restart it; i have to create a new idenity, but when pushing the "create identity" button nothing happens. i checked for logfiles in the Roaming directory, but i can't find any logfile with error information. does some have an idea? 8. Hi I have the following setup: Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit machine + latest btsync (2.3.6). I'm trying to run btsync with the following conf file: { "device_name": "test", "listening_port" : 31513, "use_upnp" : false, "check_for_updates" : false, "download_limit" : 0, "upload_limit" : 0, "shared_folders" : [ { "secret" : "***", "dir" : "/home/btsync/material", "use_tracker" : true, "overwrite_changes" : true } ], "folder_defaults.use_relay" : false, "folder_defaults.use_tracker" : false, "folder_defaults.use_lan_broadcast" : false, "folder_defaults.delete_to_trash" : false, "disk_low_priority" : true, "folder_rescan_interval" : 14400, "send_statistics" : false, "sync_trash_ttl" : 0, "enable_journaling" : false, "peer_expiration_days" : 1 } I'm running it with the following: ./btsync --nodaemon --config btsync.conf. Instead of running, I get the following error message and btsync just quits: [20160404 21:12:34.925] ZIP: Can't locate [version] in zip, error -100. Exiting... It seems when IPv6 is disabled on the machine, btsync won't run. If I enable IPv6, it runs just fine, with the same config file. Is there any workaround to this? I tried to specify webui parameters explicitly, I tried 0.0.0.0:8888, and 127.0.0.1:8888, tried setting it to an empty string, tried running btsync with --webui.listen parameter, nothing helps, I just get the same error message. I've also tried setting bind_interface, no luck. Is this a bug? Do I need to enabled IPv6 for btsync to run??
  9. i've setup btsync on 3 computers all running windows 7 64bit. After one computer crashed because of BSOD several synced folders had all their contents removed. I looked in the archive folder to find them there. is there a plan to detect if a harddrive has been disconnected or other synced computer to know of BSOD. this has happened 3 times. you could reproduce it by disconnecting a USB drive during sync
  10. Hello, first start of great Sync 2.0 and a big Problem: PC1 has a Folder e:\install PC2 has a Folder d:\install both was synced with 1.3.x before. Okay, I created the link on PC1, transfered it to PC2, and the Folder add Screen starts. Now I have to locate the Folder to save files. Standard is c:\users\name\bittorrent sync\install which is Logical. Now my Problem. I pressed the Change button and selected the install Folder on drive d, with the result of d:\install\install Okay, I thought, take only d: as the start Folder and the result is d:\\install which is wrong too. What have I done wrong? Both PC's are running Win7-64. If I try to click on connect button a foldererror205 came up. Best regards Marco

    Manual Control Of Sync Direction

After a share is completed, I would be interested in a button or rightclick menu option to do a MD5 integrity check on each file in the share automatically to make sure the hard drive or data is not corrupted, and that the data is exacting as it is copied. I am actually using this as a RAID across a 1TB harddrive and would like to make sure the one folder is exact compared to the other folder. I dont care how long it takes. that is not a factor. I have had corrupted torrents and aftera forced recheck, it drops the damaged package, and just redownloads a new packet to fill in the spot. It would be great to have that kind of file security on this system as well. This isnt just for the software, sometimes the hardware such as a harddrive or something goes bad and will not write data correctly to a particular sector or seg. I would like to be able to verify after that the data is exacting regardless of all else. Would it be too hard to integrate to make a VERIFY INTEGRITY button and make it MD5 Hash possibly files in the structure systematically?
  13. Effected Machines: Android 4.4 BTSync Version: 1.4.63.0 Windows 10 BTSync Version: 1.4.? (I'll have to check the specific version when I get home) Overview of the issue: I have been using BTSync with few issues for quite a while between my work machine (Debian Testing), my home machines (Windows 10 and Windows 7) and my phone (Android 4.4). However this morning I copied a file to my a sync folder on my phone. I then noticed sync wasn't running (likely due to a restart at some point a week or more previous). I started up the Sync application and it notified me it was re-indexing that specific share and then proceeded to the sending state. Thinking all is well I checked my computer before heading to work and opened up my keepass file, which I keep synced so I have access to it on all my devices. I then noticed that the recent entries were missing from it which had been there the night before. It would seem that the Android client pushed its old version of that file to my peer network and I would assume other files in that share as well. The issue didn't really hurt me since, after learning my lesson several times, I have rsync do a nightly backup of all my files on my work machine but the issue remains and makes me very hesitant to continue relying on BitTorrent Sync. PS: I couldn't find a bug tracker for this so I assume this is the best place to report the bug.
  14. I have a number of excel files on my computer that are constantly syncing, despite the file being unchanged. I sync to a read-only version on a remote desktop that I control, so I am fairly sure the issue is on "my" end. In my experience this is only happening with excel files. I made sure the timestamp was updated, having seen that cause problems for other users on the forum. This is an instance from the error log. It will occur repeatedly, sometimes preceded by a "ping" or a "Extension:" line. [2014-05-11 14:11:12] Torrent \\?\C:\Users\******.xls status:137 error:<NULL> meta:1 conns:0 io:0 [2014-05-11 14:11:12] Force unloading torrent \\?\C:\Users\*******.xls

  16. Hello. I am using Bittorrent Sync to sync my Win laptop and my Mac desktop. I use Mercurial as my versioning system (SCM). Mercurial creates in its repository several files that have "~2e" at the beginning of their filenames. These files are located inside the .hg folder used to maintain the repository. Unfortunately, Bittorrent Sync does not sync these files. Executing "hg verify" confirms that the synced repository (the one created by Bittorrent Sync) is corrupted. I made a comparison between the original repository and the synced repository (the one created by Bittorrent Sync) and the only files missing are those starting with "~2e". Manually copying them from one repository to the other fixes the problem. Files starting with "~2e" do not seem to have any permission blocked; I could copy, delete and move them without any issue. To replicate this problem just create one Mercurial repository, with at least one commit, and sync it with Bittorrent Sync. You can check the integrity of a repository by executing "hg verify". "~2e" files are inside the .hg folder. I hope you can check this issue. Thanks.
  17. Please HELP! Error Message: Excel Could not open (file Name) because content is unreadable. Do you want to open and repair this file? This error message only occurs on a couple of files in Bit Torrent Sync. The file can't be repaired or opened and the content is lost. It is frustrating not knowing why this is only happening to a select few files. The file name does not contain any symbols or anything other than words. I sync between a Mac & PC. These select files work ok for a few days then all of a sudden I get this error message on both Mac & PC and can't open or access the file. I have 100's of files and there are only a couple of files that this keeps happening too. Any advice is very much appreciate! Thank you, Loyal BitTorrent User
  18. I got many "SyncEncryptHandler: bad message length (STATE_BEGIN)" on a lubuntu desktop computer. I have the latest btsync 1.1.48 and only one folder shared. What does this error mean ? Should I worry about it ?
  19. Hi, Being trying to share a folder I do the following: copy the folder secret open Bittorrent Sync client on another PC choose Tab “Shared folders” hit "add" button Paste the secret to “Shared secret” field and….. Finally I get an error notification “Can`t open the destination folder” (please see screenshot) Could you advise what is wrong? Thanks.
  20. When adding an encrypted key (i.e. a read-only key with no decryption key) to an already existing folder (that was synced earlier with the same key), the folder is added with an entirely different, unrelated key than the one provided, and it indicates no peers active. I've gone ahead and confirmed that it actually does use the new key (by adding the new key on another device) and it starts syncing the encrypted files. How can I add an already existing encrypted folder and start syncing the files with other nodes using the initial key? Thanks. P.S. I tried adding debug logging, and when I searched through the log, there were no mention of, or even part of the key in question. The log is too large to post, but I will do so if asked.

    Not Syncing

I've used BTSync successfully for a while, but now I seems to have stopped syncing. It happened around the time of the last version upgrade, but I can't be sure if it was exactly then. On either PC, if I add new files to the synced directory, I can see in the History tab that the file has been added. However it never shows up on the other PC. What could I be doing wrong? Is there some way to debug further? thanks
  22. Hello, I am zaxius. Sorry, my English is very limited, I will detail my problem: SO: Ubuntu Server 14.04 Steps I followed to install Bittorrent Sync: $ sudo apt-get install -y software-properties-common$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxpoldo/btsync$ sudo apt-get update$ sudo apt-get install -y btsync$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure btsyncThe last command I've done it 3 times, changing the user and group assignment : root, btsync and zaxius. The problem occurs when adding a directory to synchronize with any directory you selected. Pressing the button "Generate" to get a key and nothing appears worse, if I update the website does not work and I have to restart the service from the console. Previously use Bittorrent Sync install and configure the same way and had no problem. Where is the problem? Can I create directories in sync from the console? PD: Thanks for reading, I hope your answers
  23. For example: [1] + 33469 bus error /Applications/BTSync.app/Contents/MacOS/btsync --config If the directory specified for the pidfile is missing, or the storage_path isn't accessible, or AFAICT the pseudo-JSON you are using isn't valid. I'd strongly advise dropping the `// comments` from the format, and enabling us to use normal JSON parsers and validators to manage this.
  24. I have a big problem on my debian 7.2 vServer. I start btsync with /etc/init.d/btsync and after 1-2 minutes btsync makes shutdown. here the sync.log the config: can any one help me? thx

    Sync Issues With Size

Hi, I am syncing my home folder on 2 of my macs, all of the files have successfully synced except my Pictures folder which is taking ages to index and sync, I am also getting a wrong file size on both of my machines. My first machines shows me 117GB and the second shows me 77.1GB and my original Pictures file size is 175GB. I tried to delete the files and resync them again, but no luck, Anyone have experience such a thing? Any recommended solution? Thank you.
