  1. When you set up a sync folder with Selective Sync ON, the entire directory shows up with folders containing placeholder files. This is great because you can search these directories (with Alfred for example) and then just sync the file you want to use. However, when you choose a folder and select "Remove from this device," the folder's contents and the folder itself turn into placeholders. Now you can no longer enter that folder and see what's inside, nor can you search it. This is really annoying. What I then tend to do is unsync the contents of each folder individually instead of unsyncing the folder. It would really be great if, when you unsync a folder, it preserves the folders and only replaces the files with placeholders.

    Smarter Redundancy

This post goes over nested folder sharing with Sync. It makes sense but it limits the redundancy you can have with a network of Sync devices. Introducing a brief overview of how I use sync (image attached). I use a RaspberryPi to house absolutely all my files from photos to music to documents, I keep everything in one folder called 'Documents'. This folder is mirrored between my laptop/desktop/and RaspberryPi and it works great. The problem is when my RaspberryPi goes down. My laptop and desktop still mirror each other, but they don't get mobile phone photos and phone #2 doesn't get music despite those files be available on multiple sources (desktop and laptop). I know it would be difficult to fix Sync to overcome this problem, but it would without a doubt be worth it. You'd get much better redundancy and wouldn't have any downtime on other machines just because one machine went down.
  3. Hi, Are you going to provide a command-line interface for BTSync 2.0? Or an API compatible with 2.0 folders? Or at least a way to deal with 2.0 folders with config file? I love BitTorrent Sync. But I used to deploy peers using Docker containers, it was super easy. Now I can't sync the new folders (2.0) without going through the web GUI... In some use cases, it's not even an option. Right now it seems like I have to keep working with 1.4 folders...
  4. Hi I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer, so here I go What is Resilios recommendation in regards to folder structure, from a purely technical standpoint? Is it better to sync many small folders (a few files, a few subdirectories) vs. syncing one large folder (many files, many subdirectories)? I realize this depends heavily on the intended use case, but disregarding that for a moment, which is better for Resilio? In my case, I'm using Resilio to sync my own personal project files between my laptop, work computer and my NAS. I simply want to have the exact same files at home as I do at work. I used to have one folder called "Work" where I'd have up to 100 project folders, each with many subdirectories and files. That folder was about 16 GB in about 67000 files (many of them quite small, I'm a web dev). When trying Resilio, before setting everything up I archived many old projects and brought the contents of my "Work" folder down to 3.5 GB in about 13500 files in it. Resilio is now syncing that whole folder without a hitch. Is this wise though? Should I rather sync each project on its own? And if there's no argument against sharing one large folder, could I have shared the original 16 GB folder just as easily or would that have been risky? I'm the only one that has and is going to have access to this folder, so sharing specific folders and whatnot with someone else is never going to be an issue (and even if it does become an issue, I can always just create a share within a share). One other question, I read that Resilio creates versions of files when they're changed/deleted. Where exactly are these files stored? The main sync folder in Resilios preferences doesn't exist on my system ~/Users/myuser/Resilio Sync it's called, but again, that one doesn't exist. Also, does it just create versions of files or of whole folders as well (when a folder is deleted, for instance)? By the way, I absolutely love Resilio thus far! Great piece of software! Thanks a lot!
  5. Hi What is current best practice for syncing existing folders? I note that Sync puts a 'system folder' in the folder being shared.....if I setup a Sync share (creating the Sync system folder), then copy across the content outside sync (USB connected directed to source) and copy the payload would Sync see the content as synced? I think it should....... Cheers, Geoff.
  6. I've got tons of issues with the latest version (2.3.3), the biggest one being that folders are suddenly disappearing from BTS all the time after a restart. When re-adding them, indexing will get stuck after a few GB's. I've noticed that if I quit all other clients (so it can't sync the new folder) indexing will finish properly. I've already downgraded to 2.2.7 because of this and the issue of BTS constantly indexing, using up 100% CPU draining my battery (there is already another topic about this).
  7. Hey Guys - I use BTSync (Pro) to synchronize many folders between multiple devies - one of which is my Nvidia Shield Tablet which runs Lollipop 5.1.1. When first moving to 5.1.1 a few months ago, I rooted it and added a 64gb SD card. I then edited "/etc/permissions/platform.xml" to add the  "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" string therefore providing all apps with full write to the SD card. I installed BTsync, set up my options, and linked 4-5 folders to various folders on the SD card without issue. Besides BTSync, I use FolderMount to create symlinks on my internal SD so that I may store all my large games / apps externally. Today, I renamed a folder on my PC so had to set up the pair again. The Issue When in BTSync in Android, I choose to link the folder, but could only select a folder from the internal SD - not the external one as before! When I go to select the folder, it asks if I want to use on on the Phone Storage or SD Card, but either I pick show the same thing: a screen with "Recent" as the only choice. From that screen, I can hide / unhide the internal SD, but see no reference to the external one. There are no errors, I just can't see / browse to it! I am sure this is due to a BTSync update from the past few months as I haven't changed the OS or anything else. All other applications still have full access to the external SD, too. How may I get the external SD to show as an option in this newest version of BTSync? If it makes a difference, I still have the default folder path in Advanced Options set to "/storage/sdcard1" (which I believe is the external one and sdcard0 is internal) and Simple Mode disabled yet when I try to even create a new folder from the app; I can't browse to the external SD card either. Please help - Thanks!
  8. Hi, I'm trying the api and everything works well till now. I'm handling the file-related events (EVENT_REMOTE_FILE_ADDED, EVENT_REMOTE_FILE_REMOVED) so my app knows when files are created or removed by other peers. Now I want to do the same for subfolders, even when they are empty. I see that empty subfolders are synced but no event is fired. I would expect to have the same EVENT_REMOTE_FOLDER_ADDED and EVENT_REMOTE_FOLDER_REMOVED as I have for files. Am I doing something wrong or you do not have subfolder events implemented at the moment?
  9. On previous version 2.3 I had everything working perfectly while carefully using nested folders and customizing the ignore list. Now it's suddenly not allowed on 2.3.1 because ?????? So if some of us need this feature now we have to keep using an outdated version? Is there a workaround for this?
  10. Is it possible to share a very large folder (with many subfolders/files within) with family/friends without having them sync the whole thing? The Selective Sync feature seems to do just this, but sounds like it required each one of my friends/family members to purchase a pro license? The large folder is several terabytes in size so it is out of the question that they sync the whole folder. The idea is to share this folder as read only so that they are able to see all the subfolders - and only sync the subfolders they want. I'm sure that not all of them will want to purchase the pro license, hence my question. I want to make sure the free version will work for all my friends/family before I purchase a pro license for myself.

    Empty Folders, Copying Folders

When adding a new device (using my license key), two things happen often: 1. suddenly folders on existing devices are empty, and only the folders will sync 2. sometimes new folders are created with the same name as the old folders, e.g. Documents(1), Documents(2), Pictures(1), Pictures(2) etc. So some files are deleted, and other files/folders are multiplied. What am I doing wrong? Now I make backups of all my documents all the time, because I cannot rely 100% on Bittorrent Sync. Windows8.1, SyncPro personal.
  12. I've got a desktop, smartphone and 2 Synology NAS's (let's call them NAS1 and NAS2) NAS1 doesn't show the existing folders (no dashed folders), but all other devices do. All was working up until the version before 2.1 then I haven't successfully seen any folders on NAS1. If I start an iPhone photo backup, that will write to NAS1, but nothing else seems to work. What am I doing wrong? I've upgraded versions just fine over the past year (up until about a month or so ago, then it hasn't been working), and have a Pro account.
  13. In 1.4 I was able to dictate exactly where one folder on one windows machine would sync to a different folder on another machine. Now with 2.0, whenever I sync a new folder it automatically syncs to the 'default folder' location on the other machines. Is there any way I can sync to any location other than the default one? Oh, I just figured out that If I set the first machine's folder to not 'sync all', then disconnect it on the second one, then reconnect, it will allow me to define a folder location other than the 'default folder'. I think with the new 2.0 redesign, a lot of functionality has been sacrificed for good looks. This was a lot easier to do with 1.4. Too bad it's no longer available for download.
  14. Is there a way to move synced file between folders using the API only? I want to create an app using BTSync API for which this method is fundamental, but I cannot find it in the API reference. If it's not implemented yet, are there any plans to do it in the immediate future?

    Deleted Folders Reappear

Hi, We're seeing an issue where deleted folders sometimes reappear. An employee was tidying up files and deleting some redundant folders inside a top level folder. He noticed that a folder he deleted then reappeared again. Could this be happening if there was someone with access to the top level folder who was offline while the deletion took place then came online and re-synced the deleted folder? If not then any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you,
  16. I have a question? I would like to link all the iMacs in my pharmacy and the Drobo under one device identity along with two laptops and a QNAP at home. I would then also like to use BT Sync to share folders with other peers who are not part of my device identity. ie. Folders I share to friends I would like them not to be synced to my work 'mesh' Is this scenario possible? Thanks in advance.
  17. Hi there! Sync 2.0 seems to be working so far...after quite a challenging setup for three pc's and two Android devices. Thanks to the developers for all the work! If, after updates, this keeps on working like how I set it up, I would buy the software. One thing though, I notice that no matter what settings I fondle with, when I share folders, with "disconnected" setting by default, other linked devices can always add those folders to sync, without me having to give them permission. Even though I select that permission is required. My setup is the following: PC 1 shares folder "shared" with PC 2, and Android 1 & 2, read/write. PC 1 shares folder 1 with Android 1. PC 2 shares folder 2 with Android 2. Also I like two-way sync backup of the camera folder of the two Androids. Android 1 camera to PC 1. Android 2 camera to PC 2. This was a little tricky. I had all the pictures on the PC already via USB (which turned out to be necessary to get my desired setup working). I then renamed the DCIM\Camera folder to DCIM\Camera_old. If I would not do that, when adding the desired PC's folder for the camera sync via QR code to the Android camera folder, it would give an unknown error. So I created the camera folder over again on the Android, and pumped back the pictures from the PC to that folder, for both PC 1 & Android 1, and PC 2 & Android 2. Ok, no problem. At least I got it working. And tomorrow I'll setup a network backup with a backup PC, PC 3. I'll have PC 1 backup folder "shared", folder 1, the Android 1 Camera folder, and it's Lightroom database & pictures with backup PC 3. And PC 2 will backup folder 2, the Android 2 Camera folder and it's Lightroom database & pictures also to backup PC 3. Only thing is, PC 2 can, without PC 1's intervention, automatically connect to the default disconnected folder 1 and the Android 1 Camera folder of PC 1. And in turn PC 1 can also automatically connect to folder 2 and the Android 2 Camera folder of PC 2. The Androids can also connect to the disconnected folders. I would like this not to be possible. Any tips? Thanks in advance!
  18. Hello, I have noticed Sync doesn't include RAW photos (*.dng) in the Camera Roll backup, only the *.jpg ones. Some Lumia phones support capturing in RAW with Lumia Camera and save them along with the JPEG copies. Also, it should be great to backup custom folders entirely. As far as I know, in the current version it's only possible to select files but not folders. Thanks, keep up the good work!
  19. I just copied a bunch of folders with files and folders with more files inside into my shared folder. Was alarmed to learn that once the shared folder sync'd with one peer, all the files disappeared but the folder structure remained. 20. I'm using BitTorrent Sync for a month on two systems, syncing two complete hard drives (2 TB of data) over the internet. As of this week, it won't work as flawlessly anymore as it used to do with the previous version (using 1.4.103 now) Suddenly I noticed that it won't sync properly anymore. Only empty folders are synced, with no files in them (0 bytes)! The log doesn't show any problems, as if the files were correctly synced.. Also, files are not updates (the log says that they are) So: - Only creates empty folders, not the files - Does not update the files - False log.. Can I somehow force the application to re-check or adjust some settings?
  21. In versions past, I was able to link a specific folder on my laptop with a specific (that is, a folder I specified) on my Android device. It seems that in version 1.4, I can specify a read-only folder on my android device, but I cannot specify a folder to synchronize (read-write). I haven't been able to find any information about this except for other people having the same problem. Is there a workaround? Is there some reason this had to be eliminated? Just to be clear, the flow I'd like is this, which was possible in earlier versions: Setup sync folder on PC, generate QR code/secret, scan QR code/type in secret on Nexus 7, choose folder on Nexus 7 for download of PC folder.
  22. I understand that sync places a unique id into each folder to understand if a file has changed and if its over 4MB it will just redownload that 4MB chunk thats changed but what about folders....say I have a 507GB library of movies that me and my colleague have obtained over the years. Half are his, and half are mine and the idea was that we could act as an off site backup for each other as well as being able to share our media through Plex Media Server so we could still watch our movies in case one of our "servers" goes down for some reason. We performed a data hand off as transferring that much data over residential internet would take about a month. We then begin to realize we needed to clean our naming and folder structure up as well as place some files into folders or combine some folders under one folder (Blade, Resident Evil and such). Our concern was would Sync not understand these changes and redownload the entire file and folder again or could it understand that on computer A within drive D:/Movies filename elektra.avi and elektra.srt were moved into folder D:/Movies/Elektra and that D:/Movies/Xmen/The Wolverine was moved out of D:/Movies/Xmen and into D:/Movies again without having to redownload the entire 3.9GB again on computer B or in other words not moving D:/Movies/Xmen/The Wolverine to the D:/Movies/.sync/Archive Folder then redownloading D:/Movies/The Wolverine when the data already exists.
  23. Summary: I want to create folders for syncing that are are hidden in Linux (.example) and hidden in Windows (.example with the -h attrib) What is Bit Torrent doing to that initial .sync directory to make it hidden to all windows clients? Details: Linux Ubuntu 14.04 to/from Windows 7 and windows 8.1 The default .sync folder created when you set up BitTorrent Sync on a linux system propegates to all the sync'd systems. It must be possible to create a hidden directory and then pass along the hidden attribute from linux to MS and back. I am creating the Bittorrent share on a Ubuntu 14.04 server and them sharing them with windows users. This allows me to create a backup repository for all their user files that they want to sync back onto the linux server . I would also like to create a hidden folder on their machine so that I can add a dynamic link to some of their windows files, like their monster outlook email files, but I don't want that directory to be visible to them. The last thing I need them to do is delete their own dynamically linked directories. I can manually hide the directory on each windows machine, but that creates two problems. If they add another computer to their sync, like their home pc, they can see the hidden directory on that PC now, since the -h attribute is not passed along, Second it sure would be nice to do all the user set ups and directorys from the server rathter than having to hide directories on every machine manually. I have tried the getfattr and setfattr commands with no success. Maybe it's a syntax issue. How can I create another hidden directory, like the .sync directory, on the linux server that will stay hidden to windows sync users?
  24. Hello Guys, Recently i started getting a problem, when i click "Add Folder" on the WebUI, no folders are listed in the "popover". Here is the screenshot of the "popover" https://www.dropbox.com/s/agxdaueyrado0fe/Screenshot%202014-07-06%2015.42.03.png Here is the screenshot of my full WebUI https://www.dropbox.com/s/it71m20nmw928e2/Screenshot%202014-07-06%2015.43.27.png I had a similar problem before, where it would take some time to list the folders, but now, it just don't show up. After i created my own "config file" ( before i was running default ) and the problem still don't go away. Here is my config file: { "folder_rescan_interval": 10000, "storage_path": "/home/btsync/.sync", "webui": { "listen" : "0.0.0.0:8888" }} Is there "logs" i could read to see what is going on? Is there a way of "dumping the list of shares" i have into a config file so then i can append more shares "by hand" ? Any ideas? Its running the arch version on a "Wd My Cloud", thank you very much
  25. Using Bittorrent Sync on an Android, Samsung Galaxy S4, it isn't possible to navigate to an external SD card. That makes Sync pretty much useless. A Sync folder can only be created on the phone, which in my instance is limited to 10 GB and is already occupied with native apps and data. Is this the experience of other users? Is there a hack or trick to get Sync to see the External SD? Thanks.
