  1. There are the 3 columns in the GUI Date added Date synced Last transferred If these 3 columns are activated, the labels are always present, but the columns Date synced and Last transferred seem to mix. After 1-2 minutes, the column content for Date added disappears and the content for Date synced and Last transferred are indented to the left. There seems to be a bug here.
  2. Hi, I am using Sync on a Synology NAS DS215j DSM version DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4. I am unable to access the Sync App on the NAS. Neither can I open the GUI (browser does receive data, but then shows only white page). Nor can does Resilo client on my Laptop (Mac) report to find its NAS counterpart. On the NAS, Sync is running. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the NAS does help. But after some time, the same problem occurs. Please help. Best, Stefan
  3. I know that Sync stored earlier file versions in its .sync/Archive folder, but most people using it does not know. People don't read documentation. So I think that when right-clicking a file in Finder (or Explorer) one should be presented with a way of choosing an earlier file version. The dialog should show these fields for each file/folder When was the file created When was it overwritten by the next version Which peer (user+device) had the change that triggered the overwrite/deletion I know that is what proper backups systems are for, but this eases debugging sync issues (which is hard enough as it is), and sending you debug logs every time does not scale :-)
  4. Whenever I restart my system (Win10 Pro Thinkpad), Sync takes over 20 minutes to load the sync folder list. I've got 11 shared folders. The three biggest are: 1) 245GB, 204000 files in 4700 folders 2) 105GB, 26000 Files in 1100 folders 3) 15GB, 8600 files in 220 folders Any suggestions for how to improve the startup time? While loading Sync takes up most of my disk usage.
  5. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and every time I launch the desktop gui program all I get is a blank white screen.
  6. hi I'm trying to change the user resilio-sync runs under from rslsync to osmc. I've followed the instructions here, and I can successfully change the user, however once changed I can no longer access the http GUI - page doesn't load.... Before rslsync user change After I edit file /usr/lib/systemd/user/resilio-sync.service and change "" to "". Save. Then enable the service: systemctl --user enable resilio-sync Reboot, and sudo service resilio-sync status indicates sync running well as osmc user- But no GUI ......coincided with change of user. Do I need to make something executable to allow another part of sync to run, such as the tiny webserver which serves the GUI? If I look at service status mostly looks OK, except for 'failed to read PID from file'. Perhaps I need to make osmc user 777 on any suggestions, cheers, Geoff.
  7. BTSYNC DESKTOP GUI FOR ARCH, DEBIAN, UBUNTU AND OTHER DERIVED DISTRIBUTIONS If you are using Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, Raspian or other derived distributions based on Debian and you are searching for an easy way to deploy BitTorrent Sync on your systems, this topic is definitively for you. Here you will find information about a family of easy to install packages that offer both a solution for the need of typical server/cloud operators as for interactive users. The desktop gui package is explicitly intended for desktop usage and provide a user experience similar to BitTorrent Sync on Windows or Mac OSX by still giving the user the possibility to customise his installation if he has special needs. This topic covers only the desktop user package. If you are searching for the server package, please look here. THE SOFTWARE AND THE PACKAGES ARE UNOFFICIAL AND NOT THE WORK OF BITTORRENTĀ® INC. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE BITTORRENTĀ® INC. SUPPORT WITH QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE USE OF THE PACKAGES. YOU WILL FIND COMPETENT HELP AND SUPPORT IN THIS FORUM THREAD INSTALLATION ON ARCH LINUX The Arch Linux Package in the AUR is maintained by Martin Wimpress (@flexiondotorg). The package is named btsync-gui and can be installed from the AUR using your favourite package manager. e.g.: if you are using yaourt: sudo yaourt -S btsync-guiWhen you have finished installing, you can skip the next section below and move directly to the USAGE NOTES. INSTALLATION ON DEBIAN, UBUNTU, LINUX MINT, RASPBIAN OR OTHER DEBIAN DERIVATES The most easy and fast way to install the repository is to paste that at a terminal prompt: sh -c "$(curl -fsSL"The script explains what it will do and then pauses before it does it asking for your permission. If you encounter any problems or prefer to do it manually, please look here. Now update the package index and install btsync-gui by pasting that at a terminal prompt: `which sudo` apt-get update`which sudo` apt-get install btsync-guiOn some systems the AppIndicator library is not available or maybe you do not want to use it. In this case, you may want to install the GTK only version of the BitTorrent Sync GUI instead: `which sudo` apt-get update`which sudo` apt-get install btsync-gui-gtkPlease keep in mind, that this will work only on GTK based desktops. If you install it on other desktops like Unity, btsync-gui-gtk will start but you will see nothing and you have no control over the application! Install btsync-gui-gtk only if you know exactly what you are doing!!! If this happened, you can fix it by installing btsync-gui and rebooting your system. After the successful installation, you have to initially start BitTorrent Sync. You have various possibilities to do this: Log out and log in again. Since BitTorrent Sync GUI is registered in the autostart group, it will start as soon as you log in.Select BitTorrent Sync from the menu or the default application launcher of your desktop.USAGE NOTES The BitTorrent Sync GUI aims to be a clone of the original BitTorrent Sync application on Windows and Mac OSX and to replace on long term the legacy package btsync-user. The GUI provides two modes of operation: Standalone Mode: This is the default mode. When the GUI starts, an underlaying BitTorrent Sync agent is started too providing an overall experience similar to the GUI applications on Windows or Mac OSX.Client Mode: The GUI can be started from the command line with parameters specifying a connection to a remote BitTorrent Sync system. In this case, the GUI does not start a local BitTorrent Sync agent, but connects to an already running agent at a remote location. This will work only, if the remote agent has activated API access by specifying a valid API key in the configuration file. The behaviour of the GUI can be influenced by specifying various options on the command line. There is also a way to make some options persistent across restarts making it superfluous to specify the options each time you start the GUI. You can get detailed help about the command line options by invoking the man page: man btsync-guiHere you find an overview of the available options: usage: btsync-gui [-h] [--log {CRITICAL,ERROR,WARNING,INFO,DEBUG}] [--host HOST] [--port PORT] [--username USERNAME] [--password PASSWORD] [--bindui BINDUI] [--webui] [--savedefaults] [--cleardefaults]optional arguments: -h, --help show this help message and exit --log {CRITICAL,ERROR,WARNING,INFO,DEBUG} Sets the logging level. By default the logging level is WARNING --host HOST Hostname for the connection to BitTorrent Sync. If not specified, a local BitTorrent Sync agent will be launched. --port PORT Optional port number for the connection to BitTorrent Sync. If not specified, port 8888 is taken for a connection to a remote BitTorrent Sync agent or (8999 + uid) is taken when creating a locally lauched agent. This option can be made persistent for local agents with --savedefaults --username USERNAME Optional user name for connecting to a remote BitTorrent Sync agent or username to use when creating a locally launched agent. This option can be made persistent for local agents with --savedefaults --password PASSWORD Optional password for connecting to a remote BitTorrent Sync agent or username to use when creating a locally launched agent. This option can be made persistent for local agents with --savedefaults --bindui BINDUI Optional bind address for the Web UI of a locally created BitTorrent Sync agent. By default the agent binds to If you want the Web UI of the agent to be reachable by other computers, specify one of the available IP addresses of this computer or "all" to bind to all available adapters. This option can be made persistent for local agents with --savedefaults --webui Include the Web UI in the menu. This option can be made persistent with --savedefaults --savedefaults If specified, the optionally supplied credentials, bind address and port will be stored as default in the application preferences and used when launching a local BitTorrent Sync agent. --cleardefaults If specified, all internally stored credentials, bind address and port information will be cleared from the application preferences. The usage of the command line options will be explained by some examples below. STANDALONE MODE By default there is no way to access the Web UI provided by the BitTorrent Sync agent, since the agent itself defines at each start random credentials to protect the system. If you still want to access the Web UI, you can activate an extended menu option by specifying --webui on the command line. You will then have an additional menu item, that invokes a browser and connects you to the Web UI. If you want to make this setting persistent, you can invoke the following command from the console: btsync-gui --webui --savedefaultsFrom now you will not need to specify it again at each start. Sometimes it may happen, that you want to access your running BitTorrent Sync agent from another computer via the Web UI or a btsync-gui in Client Mode. By default this is not possible, because of two reasons: The BitTorrent Sync agent binds the administration interface only to the loopback adapter making it possible to connect only from the same machine (This is a security feature). The BitTorrent Sync agent is started at every time with randomly generated credentials. Without knowing them, it is impossible to access the administration interface of the agent (This is also a security feature). For users that want to access their system from another computer, there is still a possibility to configure the GUI in a way that makes the agent accessible also from other computers. In order to do so, the following parameters must be changed: The BitTorrent Sync agent must bind its administrative interface to all adapters of the system or an adapter reachable from outside. The BitTorrent Sync agent must bind its administrative interface to a well-known port. By default the port is the sum of 8999 and the uid of the user. The credentials must be set to something known. The GUI can be launched in such a mode, by specifying the following parameters: btsync-gui --bindui --port 10888 --username Leopoldo --password SuperSecretThis configures the BitTorrent Sync agent to bind on all interfaces on port 10888 and to be accessible with the user name "Leopoldo" and the password "SuperSecret". Also these settings can be made persistent by adding the option --savedefaults WARNING: as every comfort function, you pay the comfort by lowering the security. Remember: the product of comfort and security is a constant. You cannot increase both. CLIENT MODE In client mode, the GUI can be used to access a remotely running BitTorrent Sync agent. The only prerequisites are that the remote BitTorrent Sync agent is reachable from your computer, you know the credentials and the API access is enabled on the remote agent. You can also use the GUI to connect to another machine where a BitTorrent Sync GUI is running in standalone mode, if you have configured access possibilities like shown in the example above. The connection to a remote BitTorrent Sync agent is done by entering the following command: btsync-gui --host --port 8888 --username Leopoldo --password SuperSecretIf you are able to access the Web UI of a remote BitTorrent Sync system, you should know everything you need to also launch successfully the GUI. Since the connection to remote systems is slower, you will notice the following limitations: The refresh rate is slower. It adapts dynamically to the overall performance.During the status refreshes, the GUI may be a bit unresponsive. There are no local file system checks, when you add a new folder. You must be sure, that you enter a valid path on the remote machine. Some features are disabled (Pause/resume, Enable/Disable Debug) since they are not feasible on remote systems.COMPATIBILITY The GUI packages are available for the same architectures as released by BitTorrent Inc.: i386 - Intel/AMD 32 Bitamd64 - Intel/AMD 64 Bitarmel - ARM EABIarmhf - ARM hard floatpowerpc - PowerPCThe GUI packages have been tested on the following distributions: Debian Wheezy with Gnome DesktopUbuntu Raring 13.04 with Unity DesktopLinux Mint Petra with Cinnamon DesktopOther users have reported successful installations on: Xubuntu Saucy 13.10 with OpenBox+Tint2Debian Jessie with KDEUbuntu Trusty 14.04 with Cinnamon, MATE and OpenBoxArch Linux with MATEThe GUI package has also been released for other Linux distributions: Arch Linux: Packages can be found in the AURWANTED Maintainers for other Linux distributions beeing able to write a suitable packaging for their favourite distribution: Centos/RHEL (rpm)Fedora (rpm)SLES(rpm)GentooNow it's up to you to test it and give me lots of feedback in order to extend this list. Any related feedback is highly appreciated. BUG REPORTS, CONTRIBUTION AND SOURCES If you want to contribute to the development of the packages or if you are curious how this all works, you may find the current sources, the deployment scripts and packaging on GitHub. If you want to contribute to the localisation by translating changed strings or by adding support for your favourite language, you may join the localisation team on If you have experienced a reproducible issue that is related to the gui or the packaging and not to BitTorrent Sync itself you are strongly encouraged to open an issue on the project's GitHub Page. Issues related to the native functionality of BitTorrent Sync should instead be discussed by creating a new topic or partecipating to an already existing topic in the BitTorrent Sync Forum.
  8. Hi! I do not have alot of knowledge under Linux but here's my question. I have a raspberry PI 2 B, running raspbian. I installed BTSync from this how to: It works fine, newer version than the one I installed before (with advanced options now yeah!). My issue is that I can only control the web gui locally, I can't get on the IP address:8888/gui to do a remote control. How to? thanks
  9. I think a key missing feature from Sync is stopping errors from propagating by interacting with the user and presenting her with options on what one can do. As an example, I recently filed an issue #49958 where the indexing was out of control. It turned out that due to some naming conflict (probably due to the composed/decomposed issue) *.Conflict folders were being created. By the time we found out why indexing never finished 1.4 million such conflict folders had been created for one particular weirdly named folder. When stuff like that happens Sync should notify the user that something really fishy is going on (ok, I am a programmer so I know that is way too wide description to implement, but you get the gist) and some possible solutions like: Folder X is causing conflicts because of naming issues. These are your options for fixing the problem: - Notify user X that the created file Y has a filename causing problems and ask her to rename the folder - Do X - Do Y We will stop sync for this subfolder/item until the problem has been fixed. If there had been some kind of "cross-network error diagnostics" built into the protocol maybe errors that arise on another peer than the one that created the filename can be propagated back to the origin to fix the error in the source. AFAIK only the "destination" peer gets any info through the GUI that a filename contains illegal characters, and from my experience they have no idea what to do about it (if they even understand it's a problem).
  10. Hi, I use an evaluation API key for building an application around the sync API. Till few days ago everything worked well and I was able to call the APIs successfully. Now when I start the Sync on one of my machines with a config file (please see below), I can not open, it just shows "Invalid request". I get the same response on all API calls on that machine. This behaviour is the same across browsers: Chrome/Safari/Firefox. Interestingly, on other development machines everything works well and the APIs work as expected. So the evaluation key seems to be valid (it should still be valid for another 3 month). We run: Mac OS 10.11.3 Sync 2.3.1 (259) Any idea what could be the reason? Could it be related to the fact that I am using an evaluation key or it is something else? My config file as it is: { "agree_to_EULA": "yes", "device_name": "xyz-server", // path to folder where Sync will store its internal data, // folder must exist on disk "storage_path" : "/xyz/system/btsync/metadata", // run Sync in GUI mode "use_gui" : true, "webui" : { // IP address and port to access HTTP API "listen" : "", // login and password for HTTP basic authentication // authentication is optional, but it's recommended to use some // secret values unique for each Sync installation "login" : "abc", "password" : "def", // replace xxx with API key received from BitTorrent "api_key" : "MY-API-KEY" } }
  11. On the html gui for the bt sync service: I need to differentiate with multiple shares having the same folder name. Either by: 1. An option to display the complete path name in the 'Folder' column. Currently it only displays the folder name. 2. Allowing the renaming of the share displayed while leaving the true path/folder name intact. 3. In general, have a share name in addition to the folder name. (Applies to Android as well.) Thank you much for this wonderful program! nat
  12. My GUI is blank after the update. Program works fine aside from this. Restarting it doesn't work. Ideas?
  13. Can the BTSync Browser GUI be adjusted like the below screen shot? If so how to do it?
  14. This has been a feature request since the days of BitTorrent Sync Alpha I guess but here it is again. I'd like to rearange the columns so I can have for example the share option on the very first spot or any other columns on another spot. And since I like to just see the path to my folders and don't need the "Name" column it would be great to disable the "Name" column like any other if I so desire so. I know that there is an icon where I can see the state of the folder but that could just be a column to it self instead of being linked to the name of a shared folder.
  15. I'm definitely missing something because I don't understand what is being reported here, and nowhere in any manual have I seen an explanation as to what the up/down blue/green arrows mean. At first glance maybe it's obvious, however after thinking about it a bit more I'm not too sure. The first screenshot is in the WebUI showing the up/down of my local machine. I think these numbers are obvious, i'm downloading at 468 KB/s and uploading at 199 KB/s. Ok, great. Now what does this mean? Is the device 123 downloading at 58.23 GB/S (probably not however, uh I have no clue), or has it downloaded a total of 58.23 GB? Is that today, or since it first connected, or altogether from this file? Or is it that it still needs to download 58 GB to finish? Or is it that it's requesting 58 GB of data from my client? And then the user library. Has it uploaded 2.7 MB to me? Or is it uploading at 2.7 MB/s (not uncommon). The same questions arise. I think that a simple tooltip over each arrow explaining what it is would be helpful. Until then i'd be satisfied just to know what they mean. `J5
  16. I've just updated to 1.4.91 on my headless server, and the web gui is missing. Browser will not find a page at all. Is it still located at http://localhost:8888/gui? Or in my case, accessing it over my network, http://serverip:8888/gui? Note, I am running directly from the binary from a "bin" folder in $home. I'm not using any packages.
  17. Hello, I'm syncing with Android a folder containing a lot of 1 level subfolders and files. Usually only few files at time change and this are within subfolder, so to get an indication of what's going on I've to open all subfolders and see if there are file changing! I propose to add a stamp or an indicator in the app GUI to indicate what subflders are being modified during the sync, something like dropbox individual folder sync indicator.
  18. Another wishlist item (consider a uservoice voting tool for stuff like this?) (not the wish): GUI/Web access to manage .SyncIgnore, and have btsync either monitor that file and update its behavior or enable a re-read of it via the gui/web.
  19. On my QNAP TS-269L with firmware 4.1.0 Build 20140612, after removing and reinstalling the BitTorrent Sync 1.3.106 app I'm prompted to set a password for admin. Pretty standard stuff. If I use a simple password such as "1234" everything works just fine. But if, after deleting and reinstalling the app, I use a long complex password such as "07hQ8DQ#W7vdjD%e7Z1U64ty" I can't login! I determined that "#" was an invalid character although that wasn't flagged when I pasted it in and confirmed it. Can you please accept any number of upper and lower case letters, numbers, symbols and special characters in the GUI password? And if you can't, can you please put a note as to which characters are, and what length is, legal? Thanks.
  20. Hi, Since the (manual) update to 1.4.72 on my qnap I have a strange issue where I cannot click the share or edit buttons on existing sync-folders. The buttons actually appear on the header bar when I hover over the sync folder. When I move to the header bar to click the buttons, they disappear again (since I'm not hovering over the folder). What can I do ? UPDATE : This only occurs in the latest Firefox. In Chrome & IE it works fine.
  21. hi, I have a BTsync service running on a linux computer. When I open the web gui, and go to the advanced properties panel, I can uncheck or check the boxes such as "use relay tracker", etc. However, when i hit the ok button, and reopen the properties panel, the configurations has been reset like I did nothing. Is it possible to change these options somewhere in a file directly ? What is wrong ? Thanks edit: This actually for some folders, but not for all...
  22. Solved this. the QNAP BitTorrent package modifies then does a chatter +ia to which prevents that file from getting updated. I deleted and restarted btsync and the new one was written. I removed the chattr line from the qnap launch script. ---- I'm trying to add a folder on Linux but I can't get past the "Destination folder is not empty. Add anyway?" message. This succeeded on the ARM version of 1.3.105, I never got the warning, but on my QNAP i386 version of 1.3.105 this warning came up and I can't get past it. Another side-effect is that the message persists if I cancel the dialog and go back into add a folder. *Edit: The ARM version on my DroboFS gives a pop-up confirmation that says "This will share the contents of "..." with everyone who has the key." and I can click Ok and the folder is added. The i386 version on my QNAP doesn't give me the pop-up. I got it figured out. On the Qnap I had to delete the file in the .sync directory. When I did the upgrade to 1.3.105 All I did was replace the btsync file, I didn't think I had to touch anything else. Sorry for the trouble.
  23. Hi guys and girls, I'm looking for a WebGUI that gives the option of downloading files, uploading files and maintaining files. I know the ownCloud web interface is out there. But I justed wante to know if there is other options out there. So far I haven't been able to find any other. Looking forward to hear from you. Have a great day/evening. Regards.
  24. It's really hard to tell when new files have appeared (without using other linux tools to monitor the folder,) in a shared folder and it's kind of annoying that such features don't work on linux, but work everywhere else :< I understand that Btsync-GUI can't have these tabs until the API allows them to, so my question is, will the API be modified to allow this, and if so do we know when? Danke.
  25. I installed the latest bittorrent sync on a Apple MAC running OSX 10.9.1 Whenever I start the application the circle/arrows GUI icon is shown briefly in the top taskbar but then shortly disappears. Without the GUI icon I can't configure more sync folders. However, I know the process is still running in the background as previously configured folders still sync. Any ideas?
