  1. Hello! I am trying to use BTsync with an external HDD, as my main PC SSD is pretty small. I'm trying to sync ~100GB of home movie files in a couple of different formats, but what I find is that as soon as btsync starts indexing the folder on my HDD the HDD becomes extremely slow, but not technically frozen. It takes ~4 minutes to load a folder on this HDD while indexing is running. I tried to get around this last night by leaving my PC on overnight indexing, but when I came in the morning it hadn't actually indexed over night? -- Might be user error, consider an anecdote. Is there a power use setting I can adjust to prevent indexing from making the drive unusable? I've already turned down the folder rescan time to every few hours. Let me know! JW
  2. My Sync connection has been acting really strange recently. I had a problem a few months ago where my files simply refused to sync, so I decided to delete the Sync app and settings from my Windows laptop and my LG G4, and start afresh later on. I set everything up again a few weeks ago, and everything was peaches up until today. I'm trying to sync some music files from my laptop to the G4, but the download just keep starting and stopping. One moment the Android app is telling me that files are being received and I can see a download speed at the bottom of the screen, but about 10 seconds later, it changes to say either just Receiving (with no download speed) or Indexing, and then a few moments later it starts downloading again, then stops, then starts, and so on. It's really bugging me, especially because I can't think what is periodically getting in the way of the transfer.
  3. Hi, I use an evaluation API key for building an application around the sync API. Till few days ago everything worked well and I was able to call the APIs successfully. Now when I start the Sync on one of my machines with a config file (please see below), I can not open http://127.0.0.1:888, it just shows "Invalid request". I get the same response on all API calls on that machine. This behaviour is the same across browsers: Chrome/Safari/Firefox. Interestingly, on other development machines everything works well and the APIs work as expected. So the evaluation key seems to be valid (it should still be valid for another 3 month). We run: Mac OS 10.11.3 Sync 2.3.1 (259) Any idea what could be the reason? Could it be related to the fact that I am using an evaluation key or it is something else? My config file as it is: { "agree_to_EULA": "yes", "device_name": "xyz-server", // path to folder where Sync will store its internal data, // folder must exist on disk "storage_path" : "/xyz/system/btsync/metadata", // run Sync in GUI mode "use_gui" : true, "webui" : { // IP address and port to access HTTP API "listen" : "127.0.0.1:8888", // login and password for HTTP basic authentication // authentication is optional, but it's recommended to use some // secret values unique for each Sync installation "login" : "abc", "password" : "def", // replace xxx with API key received from BitTorrent "api_key" : "MY-API-KEY" } }

    Memory Issue

    Hello everyone, I'm Mikel and I'm from Spain, but I'll try to explain the issue in english as best as I can. I've been using Bittorrent sync since the beta release, but I'm having a new issue now. When I start Bittorrent Sync, the PC goes very slow, it seems Sync is taking all the RAM memory. Sometimes my PC freezes when I start Sync, so I have to restart the PC, and If I don't have to restart it, It appears an error, in Spanish is "No hay memoria suficiente", and in english is something like "There is not enough memory". I'm currently using Bittorrent Sync 1.4 but I tried fixing this problem updating to 2.0, 2.0.1.... but nothing changes. NOTE: I tried to enabling Debug Logging, but it is impossible for me just because the PC/Program freezes! My PC works smoothly, and I can see I have enough memory! I hope you can help me!
  5. I noticed today at work that files I was adding to sync, rendered animation image files so quite a lot and quite large, was dissapearing from their folders. It looked like it was a laptop with not too much storage that was deleting the files. Sure enough, the laptop was filled to the brim, not a single Kb left. It had started to send deletions and replacement files of 0Kb size to my other machines... I pulled the plug on that one and don't want to turn it on before I find out what damage it did so I don't know what version of BTsync it ran, but it was older than the 1.4.103 I have on my work machine and on my server. How can machines be allowed to do this when they are unable to download the synced files themselves? It's quite serious I think.
  6. I have performed the following test: Installed btsync on my desktop and NAS On my PC created folder TestFolder with files a.py and b.py Added this folder to btsync through http://localhost:8888 Copied read-only secret Entered http://nas-ip:8888 in order to add my PC folder to sync (with the read-only secret) Content was synced between my NAS and PC Added, removed and modified files on my PC - changes were applied to NAS (as expected) Removed file (e.g. a.py) from NAS - nothing happened to my PC folder (as expected) I expected the file (a.py) to be sent back to NAS once next sync event was triggered (i.e. within 10 minutes) but nothing happen (not expected) The questions is: how do I resync files that were mistakenly deleted from NAS? In a way it's a nice feature not to download such files (well, since they were removed, then most likely I don't want them to sync), but I'd appreciate a simple way to force a full sync. Did anyone else experience similar issue? Is there any workaround?
  7. Effected Machines: Android 4.4 BTSync Version: 1.4.63.0 Windows 10 BTSync Version: 1.4.? (I'll have to check the specific version when I get home) Overview of the issue: I have been using BTSync with few issues for quite a while between my work machine (Debian Testing), my home machines (Windows 10 and Windows 7) and my phone (Android 4.4). However this morning I copied a file to my a sync folder on my phone. I then noticed sync wasn't running (likely due to a restart at some point a week or more previous). I started up the Sync application and it notified me it was re-indexing that specific share and then proceeded to the sending state. Thinking all is well I checked my computer before heading to work and opened up my keepass file, which I keep synced so I have access to it on all my devices. I then noticed that the recent entries were missing from it which had been there the night before. It would seem that the Android client pushed its old version of that file to my peer network and I would assume other files in that share as well. The issue didn't really hurt me since, after learning my lesson several times, I have rsync do a nightly backup of all my files on my work machine but the issue remains and makes me very hesitant to continue relying on BitTorrent Sync. PS: I couldn't find a bug tracker for this so I assume this is the best place to report the bug.

    Local Lan Sync Issues

    Hello, I have a working setup at home where 2 laptops connect through a switch would sync the files without connecting to the internet. edit : I know they synced locally because they where getting speeds of up to 20mb/s which my internet feed won't reach. I do however suspect they connected to the internet to find each other because at my corporate network I am behind multiple firewalls with IPS / IDS and all sorts of smart filters. Now they can't find each other even when they are in the same subnet with no firewalls in between them. Is there any way to let them find each other without using a tracker of some sort ?
  9. Hi all! I found that files with long filenames are not synchronized client under ubuntu without error messages. I can not say exactly what should be the length of the filename to reproduce the problem, but the files that I have rsync utility also reports "too long filename".
  10. Hi, I was using btsync without issues since I installed it 2 months ago, then a few days ago, it stoped to work as spected. No files are syncing in any configured folder. I must say that Iḿ using tuxpoldo deb package in Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS, I upgrade few times the pagages using the repo, I don know if the issue is due an upgrade. @work: there is an always on server with some shared folders, then there are a few workstations with those shared folders configured, all synced realtime because all devices are in the same network, but in different VLANs. @home: One worstation syncing the same shared folders from work. So, I don't know what is happening with the syncing, I'm using btsync version 1.3.93 recently upgraded using apt. I do restart the service but the log file doesn't show any thing more that stop start events, no incomming conections or file transfers. BTW: Connected devices just gone from the Web UI, no more devices are showed. Thanks in advance for any help, regards.
  11. Hello. I chose to use btsync to synchronize my musics over different devices. I have two directories to share: - FLAC contains 27GB in 1200 files - MP3 contains 51 GB in 8500 files HOME nas : I have a NAS (DNS 320 with ffp installed. I have the version 1.2.92 running on it). the webui is only enabled on LAN (no routing from WAN) BACKUP server : I have a kimsufi server, running ubuntu saucy 13.10 x86_64. The btsync comes from the PPA. WORK station : I listen my music while working. My workstation is an HP Z200 with ubuntu saucy , x86_64. btsync comes from PPA What I did : - add the flac and MP3 share in the HOME daemon - store RW and RO keys - added RO keys to WORK and BACKUP . Synchronization started, very slow because home bandwidth is bad - copied on USB both directories, added them to the WORK directories. btsync ok, did send the data from WORK and HOME to BACKUP Here everything was OK. Then I added another album in FLAC on HOME nas . This album was not pushed toward WORK and BACKUP. the webui showed : HOME : FLAC : 27.7 GB to send, nothing sending (actually just one GB to send) BACJUP/WORK : FLAC : 26.6 GB to send to HOME, no upload(actually, nothing to send, just data to receive) I restarted every daemon, ensured access through sudo chmod a+rwx FLAC -R , touched the corresponding files, nothing to do. I removed the btsync folders in the FLAC, removed the btsync share and re-added it : nothing to do. I created a new folder containing the data, with RW access on HOME, RO in BACKUP : data sent with no problem. Now I am testing : removing .btsync folders from HOME, BACKUP FLAC folders, removing the FLAC from webui ; re-adding the FLAC share. on HOME I activated the debugh through echo FFFF > debug.txt I have a lot of ping . I also have NAT complaining at the beginning, but it does not prevent upload of new share so I think it is not related. WHAT should I do ? I really want to share my HOME folder to work, and save it on BACKUP. I dont want to have RW access on any of those two servers for security reasons. So btsync seems like the best solution for me. If only it was working in the intended way …

    Sync Issues With Size

    Hi, I am syncing my home folder on 2 of my macs, all of the files have successfully synced except my Pictures folder which is taking ages to index and sync, I am also getting a wrong file size on both of my machines. My first machines shows me 117GB and the second shows me 77.1GB and my original Pictures file size is 175GB. I tried to delete the files and resync them again, but no luck, Anyone have experience such a thing? Any recommended solution? Thank you.
  13. Hello! My name is Margulan. I am developer of one huge project, and there is CDN functionality needed to be implemented. Currently I am trying to solve one annoying bug (?) while indexing source directory. We have lots of files (>5 000 000), almost consist of pictures, video, sound, books. At this time I try to index it with btsync to generate file index, but it hangs on 140.00 gb indexed. I attemped to restart daemon, tried to see logs and I have found nothing. I tried to increase 'soft' and 'hard' limits in limits.conf. Honestly, now I am stuck. Have anybody ideas? I red forum and there are guys who indexed a bigger amount of data. Can't figure out what's wrong in my case Additional info: OS: RHEL 6.4 x86_64 CPU: Intel® Xeon® CPU E7- 4870 @ 2.40GHz, 16 cores RAM: 64GB BTSync version 1.2.73 Screenshot included:

    One file unsynced

    I don't know if anyone has been stuck on just one file yet, but I have a windows x64 box trying to move files to a linux x64. Everyone goes smoothly until one last file (which I don't know how to identify) refuses to transfer over to the linux box. Any help would be appreciated. Logs show no record of initiation of a transfer as far as I can tell. http://imgur.com/eHbKmna

    0 byte files

    Hey all, I have been using BitTorrent Sync since before it was publicly released and loving it. Lately though I just encountered my first big bug. My family and I got back from a vacation, my brother compiled the photos and create a shared secret on bittorent sync. There were three folders, one the pictures are syncing as normal, the second I have all the names of the files correct but they are all 0 bytes and the third has nothing (I assume it was meant to have something in it but I'll check). Thought this was a weird error and any help would be appreciated, thanks.
