  1. I have the standard version of Sync. I remember in the older versions I was able to change the key of a standard folder at will. In the latest version, 2.4.4, I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Are we no longer able to change the key of an existing folder? If I'm right, how would I then stop syncing a folder if its key is stolen?
  2. Hello, I have just noticed, that now (version 2.2.7) you name the folder passphrase "Key", but I remember is as "Secret" in 1.3. What happened?
  3. I have BtSync (v1.4.111) running on my laptop and connected to various other machines for syncing data. All was working fine until quite recently (a few weeks ago) and now the syncing has stopped with some of the peers. My (Android) phone is syncing fine, but with 3 other remote peers (virtual servers), it's not syncing. On my local laptop (through the webbased GUI), I can see the status with the green tick mark against these folders, however on the remote peers (also using v1.4.111), the status is shown as 'no peers'. This was all working fine for several months, it's only recently that it's stopped working. When it stopped syncing, I tried updating the key (on the remote peer), and then entering the updated key on my local laptop. However, when I enter the new key, I get the message ''updateSecretErrorundefined" - this happens when I try to update either the read/write or read only key. So I'm a little lost as to what is going wrong here, and any help would be much appreciated. I assume the issue is that now I've updated the key it's unable to connect to the remote peer (as key no longer valid), but, with the error I can't enter the updated key. Let me know if more info is needed (logs etc) to see what the issue may be. Cheers, Alex
  4. Hi, after several hours of trying, I'm able to short my bug report to this: I have 3 Computers, Two Linux (Raspbian/Debian, Ubuntu), One Mac (Mavericks). The Debian and the Mac uses Sync 2.0, the Ubuntu computer uses Sync 1.4. 1. When I add a 1.4-style read-write key to my mac, my key is one character too short (32 characters). Adding a space solves this, so I can add the folder. The key was once created with an older version of sync. It has no A,B or R in front of it. 2. Although it was a read-write key, the folder will be treated as a read-only folder. It only offers/shows me the RO key and it does sync the way a read-only folder does. It seems like it "forgets" the RW key. 3. There is no read-only-icon shown for this folder within the application. It is shown in the finder (file explorer), though. note: The folder is not already available in my 2.0 identity in a read-only way. I have no fix for 2 and 3. I'm going to log this now and send a mail to the support, but I thought this deserves a thead here.
  5. Hi, my used sync folder (Linux, Raspberry) was located within a to small partition. Now I want to move this folder to another usb-device. I tried to set a symbolic link from old place to new location, but get an error in btsync (browser) gui How can I move sync folder without deleting peer and recreate it. I don't want to resync 10 GB with 3-4 clients over small network again any hints, tips are welcome Frank
  6. We use this a lot in our laptops, as usually your laptop has a risk to be lost or stolen. It would be huge security add-on if you could remotely lock those synced folders by encrypting them temporaly until you recover your peer device. If you are sure that you peer device has been stolen or totally lost => you want to secure your data by remotely deleting all data in Synced folders and deleta all secure keys in BTSync client!
  7. platform Windows, Btsync version 1.4.93 beta We are using our own keys. I tried to add a new folder on this machine, but cannot use my own key. I also launched btsync as admin. Is that not possible anymore? regards Max
  8. When adding an encrypted key (i.e. a read-only key with no decryption key) to an already existing folder (that was synced earlier with the same key), the folder is added with an entirely different, unrelated key than the one provided, and it indicates no peers active. I've gone ahead and confirmed that it actually does use the new key (by adding the new key on another device) and it starts syncing the encrypted files. How can I add an already existing encrypted folder and start syncing the files with other nodes using the initial key? Thanks. P.S. I tried adding debug logging, and when I searched through the log, there were no mention of, or even part of the key in question. The log is too large to post, but I will do so if asked.
  9. key / key-length: i don't like that i can no longer create a custom key or append custom text to a pregenerated key. I prefer to use purposely extra long custom keys by appending text to pregenerated keys. it seems i can no longer do this in v 1.4 and am unhappy about it. i understand and like that i can set limits and approve connections, but i still prefer my extra-long practically un-bruteforceable custom keys. email vs copy: i think "email" is unecessary and the two options should be called "copy link" and "copy key", and thus the word 'copy' is redundant and removable; therfore in the end it should be the following 3 options: "Link", "Key", "QR Code". -- Further simplification could be that all three be presented on the share-dialog directly without having to click into them.
  10. I've just installed BitTorrent Sync 1.4 on 2 computers. I've copy the Read Only key on one computer. When I tried to paste that key onto another computer (via share screen), I see a row of Chinese characters instead of the usual letters and numbers key. What does this mean? Has the computer or software been compromised?
  11. I'm currently writing an application with Node.js which uses the BTSync API. Reading through the emailed materials and the Terms of Use, it appears that BitTorrent wants the API key to be kept secret. How do I distribute the application without revealing the API key? How can users use the included config file without seeing the key? And how do I ensure that the key is not revealed when the application itself is open-source? One solution I can think of is to create a closed-source executable binary in a language like Java, C, or Python (using cxfreeze) for each system which serves solely to start the BTSync instance with the config. That doesn't seem ideal, but I am willing to take that route if necessary. Is there another solution?
  12. Hi, is it possible to get a folder key from a Linux installation without accessing the webui? Thanks, Jamie
  13. I have asked for API Key with the form but did not receive any API Key (nor by mail or message in the forum). What is the right path to obtain the Key, or how to understand if i'm eligilbe to obtain the key? Thank you in advance Antimo
  14. So I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it's probably worthy of it's own thread: My Drupal modules that I'm working on for the BTSync API all currently require that the server the user is running their Drupal site on is running BTSync configured with an API key. My concern is that only people with an API key are going to be able to use my modules as currently that means they have to apply for developer status. What is the plan in the future? Will the API key not be necessary in future releases? Or should a developers key be encoded into their application? Given that Drupal code is open source, embedded my key would essentially be the same as providing my key to others, so it doesn't seem likely to be an ideal solution, so I'm hopping the plan is that the API key will eventually not be required for use of the BT Sync. Otherwise, all my modules will have an extremely high barrier to entry.
  15. Hello! first things first: Thank you very much for BTsync! I really love it and use it privately more and more! Now my "problem" (I searched for "renew" and "revoke" in this forum already): I have a bunch of people with read-only access to files. One of them must be removed for reasons. I re-generated a new Full access secret and distributed new r/o keys to all the others. But it seems to me the person I want to be excluded is still getting traffic?! Any hints to this BTsync behavior? Any help is appreciated! Warm regards from Germany Happy X-Mas! brubaker
  16. Currently it seems if someone steals (or guesses) one of your codes, they can hop onto the cloud with your devices and start stealing your files. Their device will obviously appear in the list, but if you don't check the list constantly and see it right away, the damage is already done. Is this correct? Guessing a code is low odds, but I could imagine "trollers" using many computers to continuously try different keys until one works. The odds of this will increase as there are more users but this threat should always be pretty minimal. It will always be easy to steal a key, however! Anyone could look at my laptop if it is unattended for a moment and steal a key without me knowing. One solution: Require some form of approval from one of the computers already sharing the folder. This way random people couldn't ever hack in without your knowing. It would also deter key stealing and trollers. Is this possible? Thanks again for the great program!
