Vladimir
What is more secure? DHT or Tracker server? What information is sent to the DHT network or Tracker server? Can someone track me by some encrypted phrase if I will use DHT network, not Tracker server? kos13
Both tracker and DHT see the following information SHA2(Secret):ip:port. So in terms of information seen DHT is equal to tracker. If someone knows secret it could discover your IP:port whether you will use DHT or tracker. The Secret is randomly generated 21 bytes string (at least), which is not related to the folder name or its content. It is just some number. rdebath
No information about anything except that. Technically the tracker/DHT/other peer discovery is used to setup the network of peers and get them talking to each other. It has no idea what they're going to talk about. In fact there is software out there that uses trackers to help setup VPN links between nodes so the tracker doesn't even have to know HOW the peers are going to talk to each other. As it happens there is one more piece of information that goes out to the trackers (and DHT possibly) that you might consider distinct. The INTERNAL lan IP address of the peer. This helps a lot if the are two peers on the same lan or connected via a VPN.
