Can the machines "ping" each other?

Are the machines connected by wifi?

My Wifi router has an option called "AP Isolation" which stops the wireless PCs from talking to each other.

Does it work if one is on wifi and the other on a wire ?

You shouldn't need to change the default configuration for the PCs to find each other on a single LAN.
