The log file gets a little too big

On a headless XP SP3 system that's on 24/7, running BTSync 1.1.48.

I've had two instances where free disk space on C: has hit 0 - in both cases it was the sync.log file in %APPDATA%\BitTorrent Sync being over 16GB in size.

I think you need an option to limit the size or disable it completely.

Addendum: After deleting it, in the space of 3 days it's back up to 11.8GB.

unfortunately I don't have a solution, but the very same problem on Win7.

My sync.log is about 12GB in Size and continues to grow and fills up the valuable SSD-harddrivespace.

I've searched the forum for "sync.log" and got 4 pages with only this thread applicable.

So if there is a way to limit the size of the btsync log, please tell us, obviously we're not able to find it.

The size of the logfile on my MAC is 30.5K (~/Library/Application Support/BitTorrent Sync/sync.log)

The size of the logfile on my Linux NAS is 13MB (/volume1/@appstore/btsync/var/sync.log)

All the Computers are connected with btsync.

I checked the Log-File and found tons of those lines. With these new searchcriteria "FA_MODIFIED", "OnNotifyFileChange" and "SyncFolderNotify" I searched the forum, but only found this and some few not-helping thread...

VERY unfortunately, the log-file is growing, even if I PAUSED the syncing via the windows-tray icon.

No wonder... You're syncing the app directory itself.

Other programs may also misbehave if you sync the entire AppData directory.

It should. Are you sure it's excluded? You'd better exclude the whole BitTorrent Sync directory, there is nothing that could be safely synced in there except for the config file. Unless this is meant to be a backup solution.

The pause feature on windows may be broken. I had similar experiences.

this should only sync the configfile, which it does, when I take a look at the linux server, where the files are synced.

Maybe, but I don't think so, because I don't belive, the OP and me are the only ones which sync the C:\users folder.

There must be some setting which is wrong or causes the HUGE log files.

(on the other hand, windows btsync overwrites files which I just changed on windows a minute ago with old copies from my local linux-server running the same btsync version. I regognize this since 2-3 months, but didnt had the time to check and read here in the forums...so who knows, whats broken...)

I've just discovered, I have the same problem - syncing only few folders from `My Documents` on XP with same folders but in `Documents` on 7. Last week, when I run disk defrag on my XP and I've noticed it takes long time to defrag sync.log - the file size was 4GB! I've stopped sync, moved file to different folder and restarted sync, after a week the file was huge again! This problem is not happening on my 7. Would it have anything to do with endless sync loop of locked files? Sometimes when I open file in some program, the file gets some exclusive lock - the BTSync stalls on syncing with this specific file. After I close the program, BTSync still shows this file in sync queue, forever.

Same issue with 1.2.82 arm linux.  However, when I delete the sync.log file it stops logging all together, yet transfers continue.  If I kill the process and restart, it will start logging again.  It would be great if you could cap the log and make it go cyclic at a user defined point.

If you use ZFS you could turn on compression in the folder, then it would take a lot less space (as most of the lines are pretty similar). Just make a new zpool for the folder, and enable compression.

Hi, same problem with large sync.log on one PC. (Win 8.1) Have others with small sync.log files. Found a solution to my problem, I have some how, for some reason I can't remember enablet debug logging. Disabled that and all is well :-)
