Cloud part for Sync

Recommended Posts

In this topic we will list all companies that offers you a cloud part for BitTorrent Sync. You could freely choose solution that is better for you in terms of pricing and features. If you will have any URL you want to mention, send me a PM.

Important

1. These solutions are not affiliated with BitTorrent, they just provide you a hosted Sync in the cloud;

2. Since Sync doesn't have backup secret yet, company might have access to your data.

This will be a blooming business once encrypted nodes are implemented.

If you can set up your own system then checkout Backupsy. It costs less than half of Incloudibly for the same storage and you'll also have a fully functioning VPS. Sure, it's not 'cloud' but you can just buy 2 at two locations if needed.

I completely agree, it will be great when encrypted nodes are implemented. I also use Backupsy, found them when they posted an offer on LEB. $7 a month for 500gb of storage was too good to pass up. Works great as a always on sync device.

Do NOT use these expensive alternatives

You can get a dedicated server for $5 per month with a 500 GB drive. If you need over 500 GB then choose a higher one.

Just get a cheap dedicated server:

www.ovh.co.uk

They sell to many countries, including USA and Europe. OVH has the biggest datacenters in Europe.

And you get to control everything yourself.

I've used them for years!

The dirt cheap servers are coming into stock in a few weeks, according to the support team.

I can't see those on the page... Would love a UK-based server.

Edit: Found it.

Now to cry tears of pain that I didn't know about this while they were available. Also further tears that I can't quite justify the 1TB one.

Further edit:

Apparently they're selling more at the end of September. Apparently they also take an age to provision (But really, who cares?)

Where are you guys finding a deal on backupsy that costs $7/mo? When I got to backupsy.com, for 500 GB of space, the cheapest I can find is $20/mo. What am I missing?

Use this code:

'GOTMEADEAL'

Yes - two things, encrypted remote storage for untrusted ( or partially trusted ) rental storage on third party servers with "write only access" from your private machines  This seems like a non-trivial problem on how to prevent manipulations on 3rd party machines from messing with yours such that any changes on the 3rd party wioll not propagate and will be refreshed from one of your fully trusted machines upon next contact.

This sort of hints at a way to enable small scale places like notary public businesses and other bonded services like accounting firms, estante lawyers, etc etc to offer such services for their clients.

This VPS concept is pretty fascinating. I had never heard of it, but now I'm intrigued! I'll be looking further into it when I get home tonight. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Hey,

I have been running BTsync on a VPS for a while and i must say its running great

I am using backupsy and they are really good.

Both sales and support (used them more then once - answered my ticket in a matter of miniutes)

I would recomend running BTsync with owncloud ( or any other webGUI ) and webmin for management.

I am running on ubuntu server 13.04.

I also use backupsy.com $7 deal, using for about 2 months now with no problems,

i have a ownCloud server at home use it as cloud sync for BTSync, i use backupsy as off site backup,

for the ownCloud to backupsy backup tool i use Duplicati, all files to backupsy are AES-256 encrypted,

i can do full and incremental backups, all this is very easy to setup, if you need help just ask...

Note: i even installed VNC remote desktop and hosting 5 websites and still using way less then the 500 mb max ram..

Got the $7 deal at Backupsy going...got btsyn running and configured, shows a connection to my testing device...but nothing flows.  Are there any firewall or port rules or other config elements when using backupsy that I've missed.

Thanks in advance for the reply...

Be nice to have some feedback from you, did you get it working? - it's working for me great.

So a feature like a "BACKUP SECRET" is on the roadmap? Can you already say for which version?

Now that we've got Read-Only Encrypted secrets, any further ideas/updates on this?

It would be a pretty compelling web service if it could accept a secret from you and just sync it and charge you per GB of storage, or something like that.
