Problem sync NAS with mac

Hello to everyone,

first of all I like to congratulate all the development team and all the contributors because I think this project is a great idea and has a very huge potential. I have been looking for this for a while.

I have recently installed the application on my mac and first tried to sync a folder I have in my NAS (Synology Diskstation) which is on my local home network with a local folder on my mac (both NAS and Mac on the same network). The problem I have seen so far is that on my mac the shared directory corresponds to /Volume/Music (as it´s mounted) and the folder to sync with corresponds to /Users/xdone/Music/ so it´s considered by the app as both local folders.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

At this moment, I have search in the forum and I found out that it´s not allowed by the app to sync local folders or also make a synchronization only with one app instance what I think is a huge mistake. I think it should be great to have an app which I could sync the contents I store in my local NAS with a local folder with only one app instance and as I think it´s a very typical issue.

Any comment will be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Hmm, this is worrying as I was planning on using BT Sync as a easy backup solution from my Mac(s) to a (future) NAS. So you're saying that when the NAS share is mounted, no syncing takes place?

Do you ONLY have the BTSync program installed on the Mac? or is it also installed on the NAS? I'm thinking maybe in your case it's only installed on the Mac, and therefor the Mac has to do all the work, and sees your share as a local folder. There is a version for the Synology that you need. See here for more info http://forum.bittorr...synology-ds412/ (assuming this is the model you have)

I'm guessing that if it was installed on both devices, it wouldn't matter if the share was mounted on your mac or not, as the Synology would be running its own version of BTsync and therefor get around the 'no local syncing' problem. Can anyone else confirm this is the case?

Yes mark, you are right. I only have BTSync installed on my mac (so that´s why I argue that), as I didn´t know that there is an app for the Synology until now. You may notice that any computer in the network appears in mac as a mounted device so it will happens with anything unless you have the app installed on both sides.

This night when I arrive home I will try to follow that post and install BTSync also in the NAS. My model is DS710+.

I will come back with any updates.

Thank you very much for this info. It helps a lot.

Hi Marc,

everything works fine. I have recently installed BTSync from the SynoCommunity and until now the result is excellent. It was very easy to define the new repository for the packages, and then install it is a newbie action.

Once the app is in both sides it begin to sync perfectly. I need to sync around 400 GB so let´s see how it performs.

Thank you very much.

PS: If you are looking forward a NAS, I highly recommend you a Synology. I have it for 2 years and I am very happy with it. And as you can see it has support from the community for such great things as this. ;)
