Syncing locally without a network switch

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get two Windows clients to sync locally without using a switch. This is because I'm trying to get them to sync using 10 gigabit network cards, and 10 gigabit switches are considerably more expensive. So far I've just tried plugging them into each other and that hasn't worked. One is running Windows Server 2012 and the other is running Windows 8.

You would need the following:

1) A "crossover" network cable - a standard "straight" RJ45 network cable won't work

2) Each device would need to be assigned its own static IP

3) You can then use the "Predefined Hosts" settings in each devices Sync to enter the static IP of the other device
