Monitoring that BTSync is running (Windows Server 2k3)

Recommended Posts

Hello:

We are using BTSYnc to synchronise various folders on our servers. This process has worked very well - and we are very dependent on the sync process running without problem. However just occasionally we get a failure with BTSync - so that the next time we log in to the server, a message 'BTSync encountered an error and had to close' pops up.

We are otherwise unaware that the BTSync process has failed (until we start seeing differences in server content)..

Now the question:

Does anyone have a method of 'monitoring' BTSync, to ensure it is running? - perhaps to issue an email or something if it detects that the BTSync process has stopped??

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

p.s. PLEASE update BTSync so that it can be properly run as a Windows Service (on the wish list)..

Tim Ecott.

Hello Tim,

The developers are thinking about implementing an API for BTsync so third party programs could be used with it.

The Monit package in Linux and Unix makes it possible to monitor and restart services if necessary, maybe something similar exists for Windows as well.

Well, what you could do is create a Scheduled Task to essentially attempt to launch Sync every X minutes/hours. As you're probably aware, you can't run more than one instance of Sync at any given time, so the Task would fail if Sync was already running, but if it wasn't Sync would be automatically started!

p.s. PLEASE update BTSync so that it can be properly run as a Windows Service (on the wish list)..

+1
