Android: Don't Have Permissions To Write To Selected Folder

Recommended Posts

I have a freshly formated SDCard in my Samsung Galaxy S4 that was formatted using Menu>Settings>Storage>Format SD Card. I then create a folder on the SD Card and connect it to my computer by scanning the QT Code. I get the error on my S4 "Don't have permissions to write to selected folder".

My phone just recently got updated to 4.4.2 and this problem seemed to arise after the update.

Android version: 4.4.2

BTSync (Android): 1.2.14

Android 4.4 does not allow applications to write to arbitary folders. It's a dumb limitation Google imposed.

A new version of BT Sync is in the works to restore some access, but it will only be able to write to a specific folder on the SD card. It will be able to backup any folder on the SD, however.

In one of the previous discussions on the topic, it was mentioned that the issue is to be solved under BitTorrent Sync 1.3.x

I have 1.3.19.0 on my Xperia Z1 Compact running under 4.4.2

Still no go.

That makes BT Sync pretty useless for my device as the folders to be synced are quite heavy with 25+ GB data.

Are there any status updates for the matter?

Thanks again.

It's hard for me to understand why google decided to kill one of the key competitive advantages of their OS.

It would be way easier to implement some sort of security manager as the core of the OS, which would provide the user with the option of allowing selected applications to have full access to SD card OR simply format the SD card under EXT instead of FAT-16 (does anyone use the SD cards to physically transfer the data between the Android and Windows devices, anyway??).

Now I need to move the synced folders to the PC first, delete them at ExtSD and move to the dedicated folder and tune the apps respectively.

With 40 gb of data it would take me hours.

Am I correct that we only have permission to write to the folder "/Android/data/com.bittorrent.sync" but not subfolders of that folder?  I tried to create a sync folder on my Android phone, and I get no error when I select "/Android/data/com.bittorrent.sync" as the folder.  But I get the "You don't have permission to write to the selected folder" error when I choose "/Android/data/com.bittorrent.sync/music".  Really?

I very much regret approving the Android 4.4 update.  Everything was working fine with 4.3.x.

I'm surprised this is not a bigger problem for more people.  This was the only post I found with my problem when I searched Google.
