Files With "too Long" Filenames Silently Dont Sync

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I found that files with long filenames are not synchronized client under ubuntu without error messages.

I can not say exactly what should be the length of the filename to reproduce the problem, but the files that I have rsync utility also reports "too long filename".

This will be an underlying limitation of your Operating System and/or disk format, rather than an issue with Sync itself.

For example, on a Windows operating system on an NTFS drive/partition, a typical maximum path length should not exceed 260 characters (Source)

Basically, you'll need to reduce the length of your file/directory names and/or move the files/folders in question to a higher directory on your drive.

Is there any way that btsync can log files that it doesn't sync/index? It's frustrating to check it manually.

Also, this should just be displayed at the "My Sync" overview for each share.

Seriously? My system work with these filenames without limitations. Some tools like rsync and btsync - with. But btsync silently troubled. It`s bad.

sevkin,

Thank you. BitTorrent Sync is still a young beta product (compared to rsync, in particular). Surely with time it will become more informative and reliable. So far the team is working hard to make the best of it, believe me.
