Shut Down By Hosting Provider For "torrenting"

My hosting provider (Bluehost) recently deactivated my account because I was running a "torrenting" script and generating "high CPU load." I use BT Sync to sync one folder of settings files, 680 KB total. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

Here's what they sent me when I asked for the logs:

Customer is running torrenting scripts.

Them calling BitTorrent Sync "Torrenting Scripts" indicates that their support and abuse monitoring staff are ignorant as to what BitTorrent Sync actually is.

Sync, under proper operating conditions, for your size of a share will not actually generate high CPU load. They're probably doing something they shouldn't be.

For reference, my system running sync on a celeron E3200 processor (dual core 2.4ghz)

This system has a total of 4 secrets, approximately 150k files, total space over 600GB being managed. I would honestly like to see the CPU usage of the btsync executable on their offending server.

The story with Hosting-Providers and torrents is an old story.

In my opinion they think, you are using their Service to downloda and spread illegal files (movies e.t.c.) via Torrent.

Just write them, that you are using a legal and normal application for file-synchronisation.

And maybe you read through their terms and conditions, just so you can write them, where they maybe misunderstood your application.

But file-synchronisation isn't illegal and it is done over millions of ways in the internet.

Just do clarify: They didn't block the traffic, they analysed it and suspended his account, if i understood him correct. Right, @qrbs ? :)

Just to REALLY clarify, his account was suspended primarily for excessive CPU usage! :P

Perhaps the OP could clarify the type of hosting package he was on? For example, many hosting providers suspend customers on basic "shared" hosting packages if they detect high CPU usage!

As @Harold Feit mentioned before it seems not realistic to have high cpu load in this scenario ;) But we can't say for sure. We would need a log of the cpu load as evidence, but i dont think they have this log. Maybe i am a little bit pessimistic about this, but i think that it is more likely they shut him down for general torrenting.

It's like some ISP are still trying to block or slow down traffic from torrenting and P2P in general :(

But yes, he should read the terms and conditions and his package-details :3
