Betogonza
I have Sync running on a mac and sync running on a windows 8.1 machine. At least once a day I get random deletes of my files. Around half of my folders and files will be deleted. I will use time machine to restore the files then same thing will happen the next day. Please help really getting aggravated but at same time I love this app.
Helen
Betogonza, Do you have Sync launched on both machines all day long? On which of then files are initially deleted? Here's how to determine it: If they are initially deleted on Windows, they will be moved to .SyncArchive on Mac and vice versa. SyncArchive is a hidden folder in each sync folder and from there you may restore the deleted files, if you haven'd disabled it. Also, could you please describe your use case. Do you edit the files on a PC when Sync is turned off on it? Any details will be appreciated.
Betogonza
Well Sync is running on both machines all day. I will be mainly on my Mac when I notice the notification on windows saying sync is complete then it will show up on my mac that sync is complete so i'm gonna guess the files get deleted on windows first. Its no virus cause nowhere else on my machine do files get deleted. Its very odd and looks like nobody else on forums are getting this problem. spYro
hi To help you better:1. What files are in the syncfolder and which are deleted? (filename + extension)2. please give us the full path on the syncfolders of the mac and windows machine (you may "xxx" private names in the path)3. When these files get deleted and you dont put them back there, will other files get deleted after some time again?4. Are you modifiying these files somehow? or open them? are there some other sync-tools running like dropbox or something else?Best wishesSpyro
Helen
Betogonza, please, keep debug logging enabled on both machines and when you encounter the problem, collect them and send to syncapp@bittorrent.com. In the message please indicate which files you've noticed to be deleted (to ease tracking them down in the log), put the link to this topic and provide the details requested by spYro (thank you, spYro )
Betogonza
No logs are created on either machine and the logging is enabled on both machines. Im sharing a folder form my documents folder on windows machine to a documents folder on my mac machine. Its a libary of cbr files and epub files. At least once a day half files are deleted. I'm starting to think it starts from windows machine cause it was off over night and as soon as it booted up it started to sync and erase all the files. I only open these files i never modify them and dropbox/googleDrive are also running but not on same folders. Everytime i restore the files to the folder they get deleted again that night or at least the next day.
Helen
Betogonza, You probably were looking for the logs in the wrong directories. The correct ones are: Mac: Macintosh HD/ Users/username/Library/Application Support/BitTorrent SyncWindows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\BitTorren Sync it was off over night and as soon as it booted up it started to sync and erase all the files. I only open these files i never modify them This means that when Sync is turned on, it received the notification form the system that the files are not present in the folder. Do you also turn off the Mac's Sync for a night? Do you have deleted the same files each time or they are different? Check the timestamps of the files before you boot Sync. Make sure that files are not "created/modified" in the past or future. Also, check time settings on PCs themselves. PCs should also be not in the past or future. Betogonza
The logs are not in those dir, i even did a search for those logs are they are not in my system. Yes debugging is on so I have no idea on that one. I know the deletes start on my windows machine cause the notification window pops first on there then it starts to show up on my mac. Here is a screen shot that shows my windows machine removes the files from the folder. As you can see it just removes them all at once. I did think about a virus but like i said its only this folder and only when Sync is running. Very odd please help like i said i really love this app.
Helen
Betogonza, Unfortunately, I will not be able to look closer into this issue without logs. Could you please share a screenshot of any of the mentioned directories to illustrate what is actually located there? Try reinstalling Sync on both devices. This will surely initialize recording of the logs. Did you check timestamps of the files and time settings of computers? Are they OK? Also, in the upcoming release Sync's behavior will be changed so as to avoid this issue. You may wait for it to give it a try and see if in your setup the problem will be gone.
