Sync Between Android And Windows Fails.

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

I have a windows 8.1 x64 machine and one LG G3 android kitkat with bittorrentsync.

I have some folders from windows synced with my phone in Read-Write permission mode on both sides (they are ok!)

And I have some folders from Android synced with the windows machine in Read-only mode (since that is the only mode for this set-up, right?)

The problem is:

When I delete files from my phone, the files still remain on the windows.

For example, If I delete some photos from my Camera folder on my phone they will still be on windows. (the folders don't sync deleted files from my phone to windows).

I haven't put any rule inside IgnoreList on both sides.

Can you guys help me in finding the problem/solution.

Thank you very much!

Olá Tarcisio.

If the files are synced in red only mode (like the camera backup) , that is the correct behavior.

Choose the "Add Folder" option to enable two way syncing.

Hello João! I'm not able to choose another mode on my phone.

I really want just the read mode (not backup mode), I was able to do that before and I don't know why I'm not anymore.

For exemple:

I have a "download" folder in my phone. The only option I have to sync it with my computer is the option "new back up". Thus, when I delete some files that I downloaded on my phone they still remain on my computer.

How can I choose the real ready-mode on my phone I don't want backup-mode.

I attached some photos, so you guys can have a batter idea of the situation.

thanks.

Tarcisio Alves,

1) If you use backup to upload files from phone to PC, and then delete files from the phone, they'll remain on PC. This is how backup works, see it mentioned in the guide

2) if you do not want to use backup, and want two-way syncing, add the "download" folder as a regular sync folder via "add folder' option, as jvargem suggests. You will need to disable Simple mode in Sync settings on the phone to be able to pick the folder location (with Simple mode enabled, the folder will be created in default location on phone memory) , see details in the guide on Android

However, once you use KitKat, you are likely to run into its limitation for apps to be able to write to SD cards. SO you will be able to create folder either on internal phone's memory or in /Android/data/com.bittorrent.sync on SD card.

Guys! I still have this problem.

How can I put "read mode" from my phone to my pc ... Every folder is in Backup Mode and I can't see another option,

Can you show me the steps?

Thank you very much!

PS: I upgraded my OS to Android 5.0 Lollipop (just in case)

Tarcisio Alves,

If you enable backup (or add another folder from backup menu) and share the key to PC this will *always* be a RO key. this is how backup works, you cannot change it to RW. only RO. So this will be a one-way syncing,

if you want a two way syncing, you need to add a folder (empty, for example) to PC first, then 'Share' it with a QR code.

On the phone disable Simple mode, tap "Add folder", scan the QR code from PC, pick the folder you want to upload files from. connect. Please follow this guide, other details on Sync on the phone are here

So after that your files will be uploaded to the folder on PC, and next time you delete files on the phone, they will be deleted from PC. any cha will be synced to PC.  and vice versa - any changes from PC will be synced to phone = two-way syncing!

Hello Helen, thanks for the reply...

but the thing is: In some last version I was able to choose any folder from my cellphone and choose Read-Only mode, the I paired with the computer and the most important thing was that when I deleted a file in my phone it was also deleted from the pc, however, If I deleted the file on my pc, nothing happened on my phone and the file was recovered on the pc !!! but This is not happing anymore, when I delete any file from my phone , nothing happens on my pc.

I don't want two-way mode ... I was able to do that before, but I dont know why I can't do it anymore .

Do you know what it is?

when I deleted a file in my phone it was also deleted from the pc,

This is how backup worked in Sync 1.3.

This is how it works now in Sync 1.4. It's implemented this way.

Again: backup is implemented this way - if you delete files on the phone, they will not be deleted on PC.

This may happen, if you have "Overwrite any changed files" enabled on PC.

Hi both,

I understand what the TS means. I have the same issue and thought there would be an option that it will work.

Helen, do you think that option will come back? In the mean time; I understand your solution and I will try. Thanks for your answer!

Hello,

on the contrary - one day it was changed from 1.3. variant to 1.4. variant after multiple requests to do it. So, to be honest, I don't think that it'll be changed back in the near future.

But you may up-vote for it in feature request thread (not sure this request already exists)

Thank you!

Do you know why some people requested to change that? I can't imagine what the advantage would be to do that...

Their main argument was to make *backup* actually - a safe storage of files without a risk to lose them. You just upload them from phone to PC, and clear them from the phone. Still having them safely stored somewhere else.

For two way deletion regular sync folder can be used.

Hi Helen, first of all thanks for all your answers!

mat1987, I found out a way that can be useful for us and for anybody who misses the option to add a read-only folder directly from the smartphone (differently from backup folder)

Here is the "solution" (the disadvantage is  that it will take twice the time to do that) :

e.g: Let's say you have a folder named "Downloads" in your phone and want to sync it with your pc, but if you delete a file in this folder in your phone it will be also deleted in your pc, but if you delete a file from the pc nothing will happen in your phone. (this was the Read-Only mode that we could set in a folder directly from the phone in some older versions)

First step - Create an empty folder in your pc (name it as you wish) and sync it in two-way mode (read&write) with your Downloads folder from your phone (the easiest way is by QR code generated by the pc, then you can scan it with the phone to sync the folder). After sync both folders will have the same content.

Second step - Disconnect the folder from BitTorrentSync in your pc, (Don't disconnect it from the phone)

Third step - Now in your phone you would be able to share this folder in read-only mode or read&write mode with your pc.

I hope I was clear, if you have any question let me know.

thanks guys!

Thanks for the answers both!

Helen, what do you mean with regular sync folder? Is that an other app?

I only want to use it to sync my phone, so it should fit for that Tarcisio Alves. And your solution has one way of deletion. But thanks for the detailed answer. Maybe useful for other people.

Helen, what do you mean with regular sync folder? Is that an other app?

I believe Helen means a adding the DCIM folder on your Android device to Sync as a standard/regular/ordinary "read-write" folder, rather than adding it via the "Camera Backup" feature

GreatMarko, thank you!

Yes, GreatMarko is right. 'regular sync folder' - It's a folder that you add via QR code to the phone, as to distinguish it from backup.
