Reasons Not To Upgrade 1.4 To 2.2?

For maximum stability, it's always advisable to be running the latest version of Sync.

For maximum compatibility, it's always advisable to be running the same version of Sync across your devices.

Therefore, one possible reason not to upgrade from 1.4.x to 2.2 could be if you have any devices in your mesh with old/obsolete operating systems, which are no longer supported; For example, 2.2 can't be installed on Windows XP/Vista/2003, whilst 1.4 can be.

Whilst 1.4.111 can still sync with 2.2, you won't be able to use all the additional features that 2.2 offers.

In terms of the "GUI" - it's quite similar between 1.4.111 and 2.2, with both a "Web UI" and "windowed ui" available (on Windows) in both versions. (The "original" GUI found way back in 1.3 and earlier was discontinued for 1.4.111). There have also been significant code optimizations for the new GUI since its first introduction in 1.4 and in 2.2 it's far more responsive/quicker to load than in 1.4.

So, in summary, if you don't have any XP/Vista/2k3 devices in your mesh, there's really no reason not to upgrade from 1.4 to 2.2!! :)

How much worse is the new GUI than the 1.3 GUI?

That's a matter of personal perspective/taste, surely!? Besides, you can view screenshots of what the "new GUI" looks like on the Sync homepage and decide for yourself.

Also, do bear in mind that Sync 1.3.x is no longer supported, and is not compatible with Sync 2.0 or later.
