Sync 2.3.8 is now available. You can get it via direct links below, via official download page or via "Check now" button. Build is not yet available via auto-update.

Known issues and peculiarities:

- Linux users please note: starting from 2.3.0, Sync now creates and uses storage folder (.sync folder) in current directory, not next to binary

- Upgrading from 2.3.0-2.3.3 may remove your identity and folders. It is strongly advised that you backup your storage folder prior to upgrade to 2.3.8.

The check now button failed on 1 of 4 PCs on the same LAN. I shut down sync and restarted, worked that time.

@patoka Could you please elaborate how exactly it failed? Some error message? Just did nothing? Also, which version you are trying to upgrade from?

sorry, did not take a screen print. I was on 2.3.7 which was updated from the 2.3.6 install package.

The message said something about not being able to contact the server. This was right after I started updating 2 other PCs on that LAN.

I've got some trouble after update from 2.3.7 to 2.3.8 on my x86_64 Linux PCs. Hard drives got crazy, they are under heavy seek load, with grinding sound almost constantly. iotop shows that btsync generates 150KiB/s write speed on average, sync.log grows with speed of 50KiB/s to 100KiB/s while it's must be idle (nothing syncing), filled with some thing like this:

Now i downgraded back to 2.3.7, and all is fine again.

I'm also noticing very heavy disk and CPU usage on Windows 10 by 2.3.8. I can confirm that everything looks "normal" after reverting to 2.3.7.

I'm also noticing high CPU (50-70%) with v2.3.8 for Mac, even when its paused.

@progmachine, @sbhouchen Could you please send us complete logs from the HDD-grinding-machine? Anything special there, like HDD connected over USB or alike?

Nothing special, except that there is mdadm raid5 volume.

@progmachine Got your logs and opened a ticket in our helpdesk. We'll need to check what happens in your Sync.

@rensbais Could you please make a process sample once Sync starts consuming lots of CPU time? Just select the process in your Activity Monitor, click the cog button and choose "sample process". Then send it to me .

I found a problem. In the peer list dialogue, local machine is listed together with guests, and multiplied.

@Ronery This list contains identities rather than peers. So it's likely that you get 2 peers with same identity name and they display like that.

@RomanZ But how this could come up with? Somebody forged by my Identity/Fingerprint? or the key of my folders are leaked? or because I switch network between home and workplace too often?

As soon as I connect to my school network, these two "This Machine" with same identity become grey. The rest two known guests are still working since they are configured with pre-defined host.

In addition, this problem only happened on only one machine, another guest has the same share does not show duplicated peers.

@Ronery Nah, it's not identities, sorry. Identities only show up in Peer List for Advanced folders. BTW, the second screenshot shows both "This Machine" as offline. I wonder when you start it up - does both records become online on your another computer? Also, I guess that you don't have any other computers with the same name?

Ha, Both of my Arch-linux systems are suffering from insane disc-activity. First I though "Well upgrade maybe new type of indexing" Today it's disc-grinding activity well passed 2 weeks!!!!!

Forget about the below-mentioned post, I got impatient and have installed v2.3.8. Still interested in knowing if an update is tsrongly recommended once available.

Ok, sorry to jump right in: I wish to install and start using Sync asap. Seeing that version 2.3.8 is still a bit wobbly(?), do you recommend I go with v2.3.7 and then update as soon as (final-version) updates become available? No risk of losing any profiles I will now start to build?

@Hans with every update we publish change log, so if an issue you've encountered is mentioned there, then we do strongly recommend update. if it's not, and previous version is working fine for you, then we just recommend, not strongly , it's up to you.
