kwyjibo
After doing a clean install of Sync 2.3.8 (560) there are no Sync icons on Windows Explorer. I tried to follow the instructions on this (https://help.getsync.com/hc/en-us/articles/206214625-No-Sync-icons-in-the-file-browser-no-Sync-related-items-in-the-context-menu-on-Mac-Windows) link, but I can't find those files. Have they been moved?
Helen
No, they haven't. Nothing was changed in Sync in this regard. You mean there are no syncshell...dll files? perhaps Sync was not able to register them in the system. Check registry keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BitTorrent Sync - there shall be two .dll and two in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitTorrent Sync. kwyjibo
The link mentions SyncShellExtension.dll file. What I have is ShellExtensionPath64_230.dll and ShellExtensionPath86_230.dll. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BitTorrent Sync has the following keys: ShellExtensionPath64 -> d:\Users\Juan Ma\AppData\Roaming\BitTorrent Sync\ShellExtensionPath64_230.dll ShellExtensionPath86 -> d:\Users\Juan Ma\AppData\Roaming\BitTorrent Sync\ShellExtensionPath86_230.dll And HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitTorrent Sync has the following keys: ShellExtensionOverlay64 -> d:\ProgramData\BitTorrent Sync\ShellExtensionOverlay64_230.dll ShellExtensionOverlay86 -> d:\ProgramData\BitTorrent Sync\ShellExtensionOverlay86_230.dll The files referenced by the reg keys are in their folders as expected. jammin
Its likely that this is caused by a windows limitation. Check out the top answer here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1057734/tortoisesvn-icons-not-showing-up-under-windows-7 (different app, same cause)
kwyjibo
Thank you jammin, that seems to be the cause.

They only display on the top level folder, and not on any subfolders or files. There is no indication of sync status. If you're used to the icons from dropbox or onedrive, you're going to be disappointed
Helen
@kwyjibo, filenames in article are updated. I guess we shall also add info about overlay limits. @jammin on Selective Sync folders Sync shows green tick for synced files, subfolders are not ticked though. and progress bar on being being synced. Full sync folders (SS is off) - no icons indeed apart from top folder.
