bismark
The Mac app has some unexpected window behavior. If I use ⌘W to close the app window, the dock icon closes but the sync icon in the menu bar stays open. If I use ⌘Q to close the app, both the dock icon and the menu bar close. Is this the expected behavior? It seems out of line with other app behaviors on the Mac so I'm surprised every time when my sync engine is suddenly not running! Helen
correct. Cmd W - closing the UI window, but not quitting the process. Cmd Q - quitting the process, as per common Mac's shortcuts.
bismark
Ok, usually I would expect the sync service to continue running despite the application being closed (e.g. Dropbox doesn't have an active application in the Dock but the service remains running in the menu bar). I do think that ⌘W closing the window AND removing the app from the Dock while keeping the menu bar item is a bit extraordinary... Any plans to allow for menu bar only functionality without ⌘Q shutting it down?
bismark
Some examples of apps that don't shut down their menu bar application when the main application is closed are Crashplan and 1Password. The lifecycle of the main application is completely independent of the menu bar application so I can't accidentally shut down the service with ⌘Q. Helen
I don't know the internals of those services, but in Sync app (which is not a service), Cmd Q is quitting the process after the Apple's guidelines, like Quit Dropbox in its menu, or like unchecking "always run 1Password option" and Cmd Q-ing it.
