Files deletions on desktop won't propagate on Android device - SD card only

Hello,

I originally queued this post in the similar thread posted by forum member shai, but in the end I decided to move in a new thread since the two problems are unrelated and the problem reported by shai seem to be explained, but the solution is not applicable to my case.

In the past week I have been using the trial period of Resilio Sync Home Pro to evaluate if it could fit with my use case which is the synchronization of some folders on my personal computer with my android phone. I have been very impressed by the capabilities of the application but unfortunately I encountered an annoying problem. In fact I shared the DCIM folder of my phone (on SD card) with the PC to transfer photos, which in fact were transferred correctly. Unfortunately when I deleted the photos from the PC expecting them to be deleted also on the phone, I noticed (with a file explorer) that only a subset of the photos were actually deleted. Which photos were deleted was quite unpredictable. On the other hand, viewing the folder contents from the internal Resilio Sync app all the photos were removed. Note that the problem did never occur when the DCIM folder was moved in phone internal memory. The setup that I used was the following:

- Two phones tested: Moto G4 Plus (Android 7) and Sony Xperia XZ1 (Android 8) : problem occurred on both

- Dell Venue 8 Pro with Win 10 on the other side

- Micro SD Sandisk 200 GB formatted ExFAT

- Linked devices, advanced folders

Could you please provide a possible solution to this problem? I look forward to purchase and use Sync but obviously I would prefer to store data on SD.

Thank you for your support

Best regards

Can you please share the following details:

1) what Sync version you use
2) what access to the share PC has. is it camera backup or a regular sync share?
3) is Selective Sync enabled on either side?
4) did you check History in Sync on PC - does it say "file abc removed' ?
5) does restarting sync on both sides help?
6) how do you check the success of deletion on the phone - Sync UI, Gallery, file manager?

Hello Helen,

thank you for answering my post. Please find below my clarifications:

1) unfortunately my evaluation period expired and I uninstalled the apps, however they were the most updated Windows and Android versions available on December 20th and I was not notified of any update during the entire trial period.

2) Regular sync share, advanced folder (but I also reproduced in a test with standard folder). I have encountered the problem when synchronizing  the DCIM folder, but the issue was not limited to this but affected any folder on the SD card that I tried to sync (I did multiple tests). Also, the problem never occurred for folders on the phone's internal memory, including the DCIM folder (which during my tests, at a certain point I moved from SD to internal memory).

3) The problem occurred with Selective Sync both enabled and disabled on phone side. I did never enable Selective Sync on the PC side.

4) I cannot swear on this point since now I cannot repeat the test, but I used to always check the history on PC side during my tests, and did not notice anything odd. Anyway I had no History view on the phone side which is where the problem occurred.

5) I repeated the test multiple times with apps just started and it always occurred (files deleted were about 50%)

6) I used to check the deletion of the files on the phone side using the application "ES File Explorer Pro" which is the file manager which I routinely use. Note that inside the phone Sync app itself the files were all reported as correctly deleted, in fact they were no longer listed in the folder view. But some of them were actually still there, as could be seen from the file manager.

Please let me know if can I support further analysis on this issue, considering that I no longer have access to the Home PRO evaluation period (expired).

Thank you very much for your support

Best regards

Sync Home Free does not work for you?

Ran multiple tests on multiple androids - file's deleted all right (provided PC has RW access to the share). Once " inside the phone Sync app itself the files were all reported as correctly deleted," they were removed. Are you sure you looked into the correct path in "ES File Explorer Pro"?
It would be great to get logs from your devices, but once you've uninstalled, then I guess I won't be able to tel what was going on in your case.

Dear Helen, following the expiration of my pro trial period I reinstalled both the windows and android programs and the problem no longer appears. The setup is the same but obviously there is no pro features. I continue to monitor the situation and I'll let you know.

Best regards

Hello Helen,

in the end I decided to purchase the Home Pro version and start to use Resilio as default application to syncronize my PC and phone. So in the last week I have started to use it on a regular basis (linked devices, advanced folders) and I confirm that with my setup (as described in my first email) the problem randomly appears for the folders stored on the phone SD (in fact I am currently using it only for folders stored in the phone internal memory).

Just to remind, the problem is that sometimes when removing files on the PC side, the synced files are not deleted on the Android phone side. Oddly, all the files appear correctly deleted inside the Sync app which  is an incoherency between the list of files maintained in the app and those actually stored in the folder.

Can you please provide me with indication on how to collect and transfer to you the data useful to debug the problem? I do not see the "history" view on the android app.

Best regards

Dario
