Hello everyone,

Vacation photos on from the iPhone are not syncing. 3 of 3 peers are online, yet 2 of them (receivers so-to-speak) both show "Can't download file' message under the Status column (and no alert or error icon displayed, nothing to dig deeper for more info.)  During the vacation we cleared sync'd files from the same directory to free up some room, and that was after making sure there was plenty of wifi sync time and no more upload/download activity happening.

We are a little freaked out, taking a deep breath and keeping calm. Directories were created while on vacation, and the directories are showing up own the two desktops, but empty. We can see the missing photo references from the iPhone side in the expected directory. Image thumbnails and labels are a bit transparent as they were cleared when sync'd. So the faint names and thumbnails are there, each showing file size and 'not available' status.

Anyone know what happened, and more importantly, how to retrieve those photos?

Digging through various settings,
• Desktop > Resilio Sync > Selected directory > vertical ellipse (more menu) > Open archive = desired directory does not appear (on either desktop)
• iPhone > Resilio Sync > Selected directory > Selected image > Info icon > Share public link = Only local files can be shared.
• iPhone > Resilio Sync > Selected directory > i (info icon) > one example shows 350 sync files, 4 queued (w/option to cancel all) and 1 file for clear synced files.
Size: 3.61 gb (161 kb synced). 355 files (1 synced). Date. Noticing now selective sync on. Turning off Selective has no change.

The way it looks atm:  'Clear synced files' cleared before it confirmed files were synced. Please tell me I'm wrong. All African Safri photos appear gone.

Ugh, that's frustrating! It's like trying to catch a falling star but missing. There could be a few reasons why you're having trouble downloading that file. Maybe the server is acting up, the file is too big, or there's an issue with your internet connection. You could try refreshing the page, checking your internet speed, or even trying a different browser. If none of that works, you might want to reach out to the website's support team for more specific help.

That file = 100's of files (3.5 gigs of photos (few videos.)

ATM - there appears to be NO SOURCE....which is killing me if this is true. Selecting Remove synced files SHOULD NOT REMOVE ANYTHING NOT SUCCESSFULLY SYNCED, right?  I also padded hours of time to sync, as backup from this type of thing happening, before choosing Remove synced files.

So the iPhone shows placeholder name and thumbnail for each file.
Each other device shows the right directory but no file.

Desperate, and while likely won't change anything I want to get Resilio Sync going on the Synology NAS but none of the tutorials are panning out (each seem to be missing a key piece or skips over something.

Hoping Resilio Sync staff chime in. Feels like Resilio Sync, as awesome as it is, might be being abandoned by their developers or owners. Hope that is wrong.

Context: I quit using Resilio few years ago due to files missing and huge memory footprint, so my own recollection of the setup may be half-gone.

BUT... chances are the files got deleted are still in one of Trash / Archive folders on one of your syncing clients. Especially on Desktop. Go to the main folder where data should be stored, make sure all hidden folders are visible. There should be .sync/Archive folder there.

I wouldn't count on the official support 😕

@fink

Thank you. Hoping you are right - my suspicion atm is that the files never made it to the desktop. I selected 'Clear synched Files' in order to free up room on the iPhone. Everything seemed to go well, and yes there was a leap of faith that if a files was 'not' sync'd it would NOT BE DELETED. I also allowed gobs of time to ensure photos synced before using that function.

Yes, the huge cache in the background has been a major friction point for Resilio Sync...used to use a secret email address code support provided that cleared the cache (years back mind you). Have to say I am also somewhat saddened to see how little activity this support forum gets...almost as if Resilio Sync has all but been abandoned. Hope I am wrong. - just checked both desktops and none show the missing files.

Ghost images of missing photos show in Resilio Sync (w/the error files were not synced. If recovery is an option, it will need to be from the iPhone directly so am starting to explore that now. Pretty upset that Reslio Sync would remove images that were not yet synced w/that command. Maybe something else happened but not hearing back from Resilio Synch themselves. ALL - BE CAREFUL WITH "Clear synched Files' option !!

FWIW, I see an option in iOS settings to disable archive if desired. Select directory > i > Preferences (last option) > Use archive (toggle switch)

Deleted directory was deleted (after clearing sync'd files) to free space.  Last ditch effort I'm starting soon w/photo recovery tools.
Need Resilio Sync staff to pitch in.

Seems like this forum is pretty much dead, which begs the question of Resilio Sync is on life support?

The only syncing is w/Relio Sync. No iCloud used for photos etc. Nothing in deleted photos (those were cleared after 'successful' sync w/Resilio Sync.)
I was able to recover a few video from a deep dive w/special software. Majority of vacation photos gone forever due to a "Clear synched Files" function.
