  1. I have a huge folder with photos, 700gb. since RAWs take a lot of time to transfer over my obsolete 100mbit lan, I wanted to have local copies on 2 machines synced.

I installed BTSync client on source machine and waited for index to complete.

then I copied the whole folder directly to another HDD and inserted it into second (destination) machine.

there, I changed ownership for all files to my local user, installed BTSync, gave it the secret and pointed it to the folder.

files started syncing, but then I suddenly noticed that destination client reports "removed" files, arbitrary 1 or 2 files per subfolder.

here are some screen captures. source machine is called "blackbox", destination one is "thorium"

that's how it looked from dest. machine:

I have no clue how and why removed files were special.

they DID NOT APPEAR in .SyncArchive on dest. machine

here's how it looked from source machine. (in the middle it says added because I noticed the report on destination machine, then found "removed" file in folder, with !sync. extension, and renamed it back; then disconnected lan on destination machine and started adding files back on source machine)

removed files were reported and moved correctly to .SyncArchive on source machine.

I have two questions: 1) is that normal? 2) wth?

no, wait, I'm sure that's not normal. for sudden arbitrary data deletions I'd dust off my ActiveSync. I really hoped btsync would fare better than that T_T
