    • Get around the problem of firewalling
    • Cross platform
    • I bet Android and iPhone get their own apps over time
    • It'll be so simple sh33pl3 can use it

So RSync is good at transferring files, and the differences between them. Meaning added, deleted or changed blocks. And given that you create/modify at one location at a time. Rsync seems a better fit.

Bittorent is engineered for getting 1 file from many sources. You're not going to have many sources in your private cloud.

So why should we use bit torrent. I can't think of any reasons to, but many not to:

    - ISP throttling/blocking.

    - RSync is more efficient.

  1. SyncApp Community Edition v SyncApp Privacy Edition

    • Version support
    • An encrypt key as well as a folder secret, so that I can use a friend's PC as the target sync, and have a utility which I can enter the encrypt key for browse and restore, Either by a file, version of a file, folder, or version of a folder etc
    • Schedule control - with definable up/dl ratios
    • Folder priority would be "nice"
    • Have a closed code component or Privacy edition that enables the "encrypt key as well as a folder secret" functionality
    • For every target deployment of the "encrypt key as well for a folder secret" a license key also has to be entered, based on the public keys that both the "source" pc and the "john doe" pc target generates
    • therefore have a license model of licensing the "john doe" back up target(s) at a nominal one-off fee of say at the rate of $XX per target, payable only in Bitcoin.

    hurrah time for tea!

  2. I personally hope that SyncApp remains free.

Obviously if they at some stage add some sort of cloud storage option onto SyncApp to allow you to still sync when devices are down, I'd expect their to be an associated cost which this, but for syncing directly across my own LAN, I would hope this functionality remains free and BitTorrent don't go down the same silly route that Cubby went down recently (http://help.cubby.co...o-basic-version) which resulted in users leaving Cubby in their thousands in favor for AeroFS

Reading that link from the "Product Manager", "As product developers, we’re passionate about providing affordable, elegant solutions for our customers" - HE isn't a developer - HE'S a suit. I laughed my head off reading that reply!
