Hi,
I am using BTSync to sync files in my LAN (I am running a Server with BTSync in my home network). I would like to sync the files internal and also external that I can sync files with my iPhone and so on.
I set the preferences in the BitTorrent Sync Application to the Listening port 9999.
Which I opened on the firewall.
I know I need also the ports 3000 TCP and UDP to be open on ther firewall.
But BitTorrent Sync still uses some random high ports to sync files from the LAN to the external.
Is there any way to limit this communication to some specific ports?

The Sync folder has about 300GB and containing big files like 1 GB files.

Hi,
ok now the version is up to date:
ladmin@kif:~$ dpkg -l | grep btsyncii btsync 1.2.3-2 all Private network P2P file synchronisation daemon(s)ii btsync-common 1.2.92-2 amd64 Private network P2P file synchronisation daemonladmin@kif:~$ ps ax | grep btsync11554 ? Sl 1:52 /usr/lib/btsync/btsync-daemon --nodaemon --log file --config /etc/btsync/debconf-default.conf11813 pts/1 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto btsync
Version 1.2.92 ( up to date )
but the speed is still slow:
64.7 kB/s up, 306.9 kB/s down

Here is the output:
ladmin@kif:~$ dpkg -l | grep btsyncii btsync 1.2.67-0~eugenesan~raring1 amd64 Private network P2P file synchronisation daemon(s)ladmin@kif:~$ ps ax | grep btsync 1317 ? Hi,
in the Web GUI btsync says me Version 1.2.67 ( up to date ).
But I tried to update it again in the CLI by doing the following steps:
sudo sh -c "$(curl -fsSL http://debian.yeasoft.net/add-btsync-repository.sh)"sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install btsyncsudo dpkg-reconfigure btsync
But the Web GUI still shows me the same version and it is still so slow syncing... even after a reboot...

Hi,
I am using BtSync Version 1.2.67 on my Ubuntu 13.10,
But my Sync Speeds are very slow: 22.4 kB/s up, 360.4 kB/s down.
Here are my internet speed results:
The other side has a way faster internet connection.
On the server and the client are no speed limits configured.
The Listening port on the Windows GUI and the server is configured on port 9999.
On my cooperate firewall I opened the following ports in and out:
UDP 3000
TCP/UPD 3838
TCP/UDP 9999
here are the used ports and the top command of the linux server:
Can anyone please help me to improve the down and upload speed?

Can you pls tell me what ports i need...
I am using the normal setting with the tracker...
I have udp 3000 and udp 9999 (set it to sync)
Which additional ports do i need ???

Hi, if I sync with BitTorrent Sync over the Internet, it uses a Bit Torren tracker to intate the Connection.
Is it possible to operate a owen Torrent tracker for this ?
Is therea howto to do this and does the client support this?

Hi can anyone explain me how the connection between two peers is established over the Internet?
I would like to know the technical background because I am interested in this.
The point I don't get is:
I just have the QR Code or the secret but no hostname or IP.
Ho can my smartphone sync with my Linux server at home if it has just the secret.
How is the connection established to the device without this information.

Hi I would like to have an iPad App for BitTorrent Sync, or make the iPhone App avaliable as a universal App, that it is nice to use on iPad and iPhone...
-
Ok it also seems to work.
I am using a corporate Firewall and configured the BTsync Ubuntu website Client like this:
Website listen to UDP 8888
Sync listen to UDP 9999
Using UPnP
I opened on my firewall:
UDP 9999 and UDP 3000
I don't want that the website is accessible via the Internet.
and now it seems to work....
I forgot the port UDP 3000 for what ever it is...

Yes I can ping 8.8.8.8 and everything workes fine in the LAN.
Which port do I need instead to forward that I can sync from the internet ?

Hey, I am using a Ubuntu Server as my Bit Torrent Sync Server.
I have a single Dynamic IPv4 Adress.I am using NAT, Firewall with (Sophos UTM).
The Bit Torrent Sync website is listening on port 8888.
I forwarded the port 8888 to my Ubuntu Server on the firewall but the sync is not working.
What ports do I exactly need to sync my Smartphone and other devices over the Internet with the Ubuntu Bit Torrent Sync server?
And if it is possible the website should not be reachable over the internet, I would like to enable only the sync over the Internet.

Hey,
I just installed BitTorrent Sync on my Ubuntu Server.
I am protecting the BitTorrent Sync Webpage with a username and password.
But it is using http and not https, so the username and password is not encrypted.
Is there any easy way to switch the BitTorrent Sync Website to https?
Any how to for this ?
Or can you maybe just switch to https in the next release please ?

Hi,
I like ths project, I waited a long time for a sync service which I can manage myself and handle large data.
Is there a plan to implement versioning?
That you have multile versions of a file saved. Maybe just on a server?
Also a Web GUI would be nice to access the data if you are on the way.
It should be possible if you use a Linux server for example or a NAS as the central manager.
You can just backup the synced folders with a standard backup linux software like http://www.oak-tree.us/time-drive/ or http://code.google.com/p/flyback/.
So you can save the last 3 versions of a file.
Additional it should be possible to access the folder with webdav and secure the folder with username and password. Maybe it would be great to allow LDAP Authentication.
Is this something you want to implement? Is this idea possible to do create by my self or are there any technical limitations?
What do you think?
Bittottrent Sync Behind A Firewall And High Ports
in Sync Troubleshooting

The only service which is running on this virtual machine ist BittorrentSync and when I closed the ports I couldn't sync files from external to my home network. Thats why I guess BitTorrent Sync is opening the ports.
Why? Is it impossible that BitTorrent Sync uses this ports?
