btsync (1.4.0-3) unstable; urgency=low * Added debconf support for new advanced settings (Closes #150) - folder_defaults.known_hosts
Thanks for your work! Why doesn't it allow to input hostnames?
-
tuxpoldo, may be you can implement folder_defaults.known_hosts & peer_expiration_days in advanced dpkg-reconfigure settings?
-
Thanks, tuxpoldo. Your last suggestion helped. After purging install completed successfully.
One little thing I noticed: you have to re-run dpkg-reconfigure btsync manually after initial configuration to set umask & listening port.
-
Try this:
dpkg -L btsyncsudo ls -la /etc/init.d/b*
btsync:~$ dpkg -L btsync/./etc/etc/init.d/etc/init.d/btsync/etc/btsync/etc/btsync/samples/etc/btsync/samples/user.conf/etc/btsync/samples/simple.conf/etc/default/etc/default/btsync/var/var/lib/var/lib/btsync/usr/usr/share/usr/share/icons/usr/share/icons/hicolor/usr/share/icons/hicolor/96x96/usr/share/icons/hicolor/96x96/apps/usr/share/icons/hicolor/96x96/apps/btsync.png/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/btsync.png/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/btsync.png/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/btsync.png/usr/share/btsync/usr/share/doc/usr/share/doc/btsync/usr/share/doc/btsync/README.Debian/usr/share/doc/btsync/CREDITS.md/usr/share/doc/btsync/README.md.gz/usr/share/doc/btsync/copyright/usr/share/doc/btsync/changelog.Debian.gz/usr/lib/usr/lib/btsync/etc/btsync/samples/complex.conf/usr/lib/btsync/btsync-daemon@btsync:~$ sudo ls -la /etc/init.d/b*-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1276 Oct 15 2012 /etc/init.d/bootlogs-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1281 Jul 14 2013 /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh@btsync:~$

I have to manually run it because it doesn't start itself. AFAIR it was after new install.
May be there is a way to clean all the traces of btsync and install it as new?

I had the same problem. Are you using default configuration, or a self created configuration file? For me using the default configuration fixed the "problem"
I tried upgrading with self created configuration file but failed. Moved my configuration to backup place, tried to install from scratch but also failed. Let's hope that tuxpoldo's fix will work.

Can you please tell me which exact Distribution you are using?
Linux version 3.2.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-14) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3

When 1.4.72 will be available for debian servers?
-
Restarting btsync daemon helped. As always, thanks for the hint, tuxpoldo!

Just check out this post and don't forget to do this for every user.
Hi,
After having used your package with one single config, for security reasons, I would like now to have a separate daemon for each user. What's the cleanest way to do it ?I have a master configuration file with the usernames and their secrets. Thanks for your help.Magali -
As long as I set DAEMON_UID variable btsync can't start. May be there is something else that should be done?
Seems I also have to take ownership of the acmodeu.conf file itself. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.
-
Please do the following now:
Open /etc/btsync/acmodeu.conf in an editor and do the following:
- Write something informative in the header (like: THIS IS ACMODEU'S VERY PERSONALIZED CONFIGURATION FILE) and remove the old header information. It is always a good idea to keep things well documented. Since the file is now maintained by you, it would be wrong to keep information like "this file is maintained by debconf"
- Change the storage_dir to /var/lib/btsync-acmodeu
- Make all changes you need (like adding DAEMON_UID and DAMON_GID)
As long as I set DAEMON_UID variable btsync can't start. May be there is something else that should be done?
-
One thing: you know, that you can let run btsync under different credentials? See DAEMON_UID and DAEMON_GID (read the initial posting). The only thing, is that this is currently not supported by debconf - that means: you must create and maintain your configuration file manually.
Thanks, Tuxpoldo! That was exactly what I needed.
-
Yes, I do. I can't understand why can't btsync act as system user e.g. btsync with own group. It would be much simplier for everything. Just add desired user to the group and voila.
-
May it is possible to implement a method to set group for btsync in order to get access to synced data without setting 0000 umask or being root?
-
Once again I would like to return to umask and btsync odd behavior:
0) I have // DAEMON_UMASK=0002 in /etc/btsync/debconf-default.conf
1) I have "Archive" folder syncing with Windows machine with following rightsdrwxrwsr-x 19 root btsync 4.0K Oct 22 17:20 Archive
2) I copied "test_folder" with "test_file.iso" in it to the "Archive" folder on windows machine.
3) And here is the syncing result:
ls -lah /var/lib/btsync/Archive/test_folder/
total 19M
drwxrwxr-x 2 root btsync 4.0K Oct 22 17:20 .
drwxrwsr-x 19 root btsync 4.0K Oct 22 17:20 ..
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 19M Sep 6 14:16 test_file.isoWhy did the group setting changed to root on test_file.iso instead of staying on btsync?
-
Guys, U R supersonic! BTW .SyncIgnore file is created with rwxr--r-- rights.
-
OK, my bad, thanks.
-
Hell no! After uncommenting DAEMON_UMASK=0002 string in debconf-default.conf btsync pretends to start but the webface becomes unavailable and telnet probe to connection port fails. ps ax | grep btsync shows only grep btsync. After reverting the changes everything backs to normal.Good news!
Version 1.1.30 fixes the problem!
-
One very stupid question - does btsync need both tcp & udp ports open or tcp is enough?
